Amos & Ann Pask née Evans

This information relates to Chart 15 , the descendants of Isaac Paske, (c1800 - ) who lived in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

As a follow on to the previous blog Amos Pask (1862 - 1937), I can confirm that Amos married Ann Evans, not Annie Abigail Morgan, as currently listed on the website. Amanda Haslam's information has enabled me to connect in previously unknown information. Amos & Ann had eight children:

  1. Olive Pask b. 1895
  2. Phyllis Pask b. 1896
  3. Beryl Pask b. 1897
  4. Myrtle Pask b. 1898, d. 1917
  5. Idris Evans Pask+ b. 8 Nov 1900, d. 1983
  6. Kenneth Pask+ b. 5 Nov 1902, d. Feb 1985
  7. Myfanwy Pask b. 1904, d. 1941
  8. Eileen Pask b. 20 Jul 1907, d. Mar 1994

Many thanks to Amanda for sharing this information. The next website will contain this latest information.

Amos Pask (1862 - 1937)

This information relates to Chart 15 , the descendants of Isaac Paske, (c1800 - ) who lived in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

We received an inquiry on the family of Amos Pask. Amanda Haslam née Jenkins wrote to us today:

My grandfathers grandfather was a Amos Pask born 1862, I have no details of where, but died 28.1.1937, at Risca, which I believe is in south Wales. He married Ann Evans (1868-1953) in 1894 at Newport. They had seven children, Olive, Phyllis(my great Grandmother), Beryl, Idris, Kenneth, Myfanwy and Eileen.

Surprisingly, last week Idris was detailed in the blog Idris Evans & Sarah Elsie N. Pask née Talbot.

The information that Amanda has provided is slightly different to the information we currently have. So this needs further investigation. We love a challenge!

Many thanks to Amanda for sharing her information.

Website Update 1 May 2007

The website was updated today Tuesday 1 May. This update includes information as detailed in the previous blogs:

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. A full list of these recent changes to the narratives is available in the New or Changed Narratives section. The narratives section now includes 6284 people. This was another large update - an increase of 65 persons, although many more are "living" people, and therefore their narratives are not included.

John Edward Pask (1873-1916)

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

Last April, we reported in several blogs information on John Edward Pask who was listed on Tibshelf war memorial. In the blog John Edward Pask (1873 - 1916) Obituary, it mentions that his widow was left with four young children.

When recently compiling the first draft of a section of the publication Pasks of Lincolnshire - Pasks of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire, we were very disappointed that we had still not identified John's four children. Fortunately our wishes have been answered.

During the past two weeks' we have been corresponding with David Stell who has provided a wealth of information.

John was previously married to Elizabeth Ann Magee, who sadly died in child birth in Hong Kong, where John was serving. They had four children:

  1. John Richard Pask
  2. Eileen Pask, born in Northern Ireland
  3. Charles Edward Pask, born in Hong Kong
  4. George Pask b. 8 Jun 1912, d. 10 Jun 1912 in Hong Kong

John had another son, Philip Gordon Lydd Pask, by Lizzie L. Tompkins. The overseas births explains why I was not able to locate these children in our transcription of the GRO Births.

Sadly, if we had known this information earlier this year, when we were in Hong Kong, we would have visited Elizabeth & George's grave.

I have now been able to trace most of the descendants of John Edward Pask. Many thanks to David for his valuable information which will be included in the next website update.

Descendants of Alfred Harry & Annie Pask née Thomas

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

As a follow on to the recent blog titled Alfred Harry & Hazel Pask née Ulph. I contacted Edwin Prockter, who has extensively researched this family.

Alfred was born on 4 September 1906. His parents were Alfred Harry Snr & Annie Pask née Thomas. Whilst searching the births I realised that several other births had the mother's maiden name of Thomas. I wrote to Edwin as I felt sure he would be able to help me. He wrote back:

Edith Rosetta May, was the eldest; Millicent Annie Kathleen;
Alfred Harry Jnr; Hilda Vera, my mother; Evelyn Blanche
Frederick Reginald; Royston; Winnie Doreen; Herbert T; Robert Winston; Iris Freda - Six girls and four boys.
There is a very interesting but tragic history to this family, Annie the mother dropped dead on 5th Noverber 1917 at their house in Grapes Hill, Norwich, while father at Colchester with the Army. The family were largely cared for by Edith the eldest child, but my mother was taken by her Aunt to the home of a Lady, and spent a few years there.

I am indebted to Edwin for this additional information. I have included this into the database and it will be available in the next website update.

Rosetta Stokes née Pask

This information relates to the red-icon tree - descendants of Isaac PASK who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Staying with the Monmouthshire area, Colleen Willis wrote to me a few days ago and provided a contact for Rosetta Pask, who married William Stokes on 26 May 1883, as listed in the previous blog Australian Pasks.

I wrote to Robyn Keane, and together with her I have established that Rosetta was born in 1859 in Newport, Monmouthshire. She was the daughter of Zaccheus & Mary Anne Pask née Edwards. Rosetta was listed in the 1881 census in St. Wollos, Monmouth, living together with her stepfather William Downs, and her mother. Rosetta immigrated to Australia between 1881 and 1883.

Many thanks to Colleen and Robyn for helping me link-in Rosetta. This information will be included in the next website update.

Idris Evans & Sarah Elsie N. Pask née Talbot

This information relates to Chart 15 , the descendants of Isaac Paske, (c1800 - ) who lived in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

Martin Thompson wrote to us last week requesting information on:

County Councillor I PASKE is listed as a nephew at the funeral of Frederick TALBOT in Abertillery in 1952, according to a newspaper report.

Idris Evans Pask was born on 8 November 1900 in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire. He was the son of Amos & Annie Abigail Pask née Morgan. He married Sarah Elsie N. Talbot in 1925, and they had two children Lilian M., and Margaret M.

This information has been included in the database, and will be available in the next website update.

Descendants of William & Jane Pask née Harry

This information relates to the red-icon tree - descendants of Isaac PASK who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Yesterday I was in contact with Patricia Maybrey [Vizor], via Genes Reunited, who is researching the descendants of William & Jane Pask née Harry. We have been in contact with Pat for several years. I am currently cross checking her tree against our database.

I have already found a missing maiden name that helped me identify the marriage in 1873/Q1 of William & Elizabeth Ann Pask née Roberts. In the GRO indexes is was listed as William Park.

Additionally Patricia has detailed a link between Chart 12 and Chart 15. I need to do some more cross checking to establish the link.

Alfred Harry & Hazel Pask née Ulph

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

A couple of weeks' ago I wrote to Colin Ulph. I recently met Colin at the Guild of One-Name Studies Bletchley conference. He is researching the Ulph surname.

I had determined that Hazel Ulph had married Alfred Harry Pask. Colin confirmed this and provided some additional information on this couple and their family.

Hazel married Alfred H. Pask, known as 'Sonny', on 1 November 1927 at the registry office at Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich. They had five children - Evelyn, John, David, Gillian and Peter ... Sonny died in April 1997 after they had been married for nearly 70 years. Hazel died on 28 May 2005 in Norwich hospital, in her 97th year.
What a remarkable couple!

Alfred was born on 4 September 1906, and registered in the Mutford registration district in Suffolk. However they lived in Norwich. I believe his parents are likely to be Alfred Harry & Annie Pask née Thomas, who finally settled in Norwich, where Alfred was a Tailor. They are descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

Many thanks to Colin for providing this information which will be included in the next website update.

Will of Thomas Charles Pask

This information relates to Chart 14, the descendants of William Pask (1791-84) who lived in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

Paula Payne wrote to me yesterday and advised that Cheshire County Council now have a Wills Database Online, also Wiltshire & Swindon Archives.

The Cheshire search found Thomas Charles Pask of Hoylake, a Chemist who died in 1921. He was the son of Thomas & Sarah Pask née Partington, who orginated from Lincolnshire. He married Isabella Graham in 1885 in the Hoylake registration district. Isabella died in 1912.

Many thanks for these links Paula. This information will be included in the next website update.

Make Hay While the Sun Shines

This is totally unrelated to family history, except to explain why the blog has been quiet over the past two weeks. We have been focusing on the garden. The weather in England has been glorious for the whole of April, and as the saying goes "Make hay while the sun shines".

Stuart has been busy making a decking to cover our rather shabby 15-year old patio. As you will see from the photographs below.

Descendants of Bernard & Helen Pask née Wallace

This information relates to Chart 34, the descendants of Philip & Pheobe Pask née Lewis who lived in Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire.

Milton Pask wrote to us from Sundre, Alberta, Canada. His grandfather was Bernard W. Pask who was born in 1885 in Walthamstow, Essex. However, Bernard's ancestors originated from Monmouthshire.

Bernard immigrated to Canada in 1905 on the ship Dominion. He married Helen Wallace in 1920 and they had five children.

Helen was born in 1891 in the village of Mauchlin, Ayrshire, Scotland. She was the youngest daughter of William Wallace and Helen Shaw Taylor. Her father died in 1915 and she decided to go to Canada.

Milton has kindly provided valuable information of all Bernard & Helen's five children, and their children, with their most up-to-date families.

This information will be included in the next website update.

Edward & Eliza Pask née Bradshaw - Photographs

This information relates to Chart 11, a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Lincolnshire.
Over the past two days I have been including photographs kindly provided some time ago by Fred L. Taylor. These mainly relate to the family of Edward & Eliza Pask née Bradshaw, who originated from Timberland, and lived in Bardney. The photographs included in the blog are Fred's grandparents Edward Pask, and Fanny Maria Pask née Ardron.
It was the intention to include all the photographs in an online album when time permits. Unfortunately I am technically challenged and need more time to set this up. In the meantime, the photographs are now included in the sources, and as primary images against the individual narratives. These will be available in the next website update.

It is always so good to have a photograph with the narratives, so I am indebted to Fred for sharing his enviable collection.

Pasks of Victoria, Australia

Colleen Willis has provided more information on Victoria, Australia records that have PASK listed in their indexes:

There is quite a few PASKs, so this will take some time to include in the database.

Pasks of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

Over the Easter weekend I have finished the first draft of a section of the publication Pasks of Lincolnshire - the Pasks of Great Gonerby. It is 70 pages, and contains 358 descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock - Chart 1 on the website.

Stuart's job is now to provide relevant photographs. I am going to the Guild of One-Name Studies AGM and weekend conference this coming weekend. I needed to provide the draft so that my friend Jan could provide her feedback. We are both doing publications and sharing ideas.

Pasques of Cumbria continued

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Nathan Pasque wrote again yesterday, as a follow-on from the previous blog Pasques of Cumbria. Nathan has kindly provided some photographs of two graves in St. Michael's Church in Lowther, Cumbria.

The first monumental inscriptions reads:

Freda Pasque died 16th June 1936 aged 19 years and of her sister Nada Lily Yates died 7th December 1991 aged 77 years beloved wife of Ernest John died 18th July 1995 aged 78 years At Rest
From the GRO death indexes I found that Nada was born on 7 May 1914. I have not yet located her marriage to Ernest John Yates, who was born on 9 November 1916.

The other monumental inscription reads:

In loving memory of Lily Jane Pasque died 9th March 1961 aged 76 years and of her husband Frederick James died 15th December 1961 aged 77 years At Rest.
Many thanks to Nathan. This information has been included in the database and will be subsequently updated in the next website update.

Information on the village of Lowther is detailed on the Visit Cumbria website, and includes several pictures of the graveyard at St. Michael's Church.

John & Elizabeth Pask née White continued

This information relates to a Gloucestershire family, currently unconnected to a main branch.

As detailed in the previous blog John & Elizabeth Pask née White - Gloucestershire, Bob Shewman wrote from Ontario Canada regarding this family that originated from Cheltenham.

The information provided by Bob has now been included in the database, and includes that John Pask was born in 1834 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He was a Bootmaker. He married Elizabeth White, daughter of Thomas Cotton and Priscilla White, on 4 July 1868 in Bretforton, Worcestershire. His father was listed as Philip Pask, a Farmer. However currently I am unable to find Philip.

John & Elizabeth, and their four children Harry George, Tom [or Samuel], Mary, and infant Elizabeth May immigrated to Canada in c1882. John died shortly afterwards when he was killed by a railway train on 27 June 1883 in Trenton, Hastings County, Ontario. Elizabeth then married James Meacham on 16 October 1883.

Bob has also provided extensive information on their four children. This information will be available on the website in the next update.

Website Update 1 April 2007

The website was updated on Sunday 1 April.

This update includes information provided by Colleen Willis, who is assisting considerably by researching Australian records. Colleen has found a lot of "missing" people. In addition, I have downloaded all the Victoria birth, marriages, and deaths and slowly including them into the database.

In addition, information as detailed in the previous blogs:

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. A full list of these recent changes to the narratives is available in the New or Changed Narratives section. The narratives section now includes 6219 people. This was another large update - an increase of 53 persons.

Pasques of Cumbria

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Nathan Pasque wrote to me in March, and explained:

My granddad was Fredrick Ernest Pasque who lived in Cumbria and worked on Lord Lonsdale's estate as a stable lad and his father was a game keeper.

Nathan provided sufficient information to establish that Frederick was the son of Frederick James S. & Lily Jane Pasque née Munday. Frederick James Spicer Pasque was born in 1884 in Blythburgh, Suffolk. He was the son of George Spicer & Gertrude Pasque née Saunders. George was also a game keeper. This family has been well researched by Herbert Bunt (see previous blog Herbert Bunt - BBC 1 Television Programme), Martin Elmy, and Valerie Francis.

Nathan is the 7 x great-grandson of Thomas Pasque who was the Parish Clerk of Theberton Suffolk.

Lilian Pask née Johnson (1918-2007)

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

Sadly yesterday we attended the funeral of Stuart's sister-in-law, Lilian Pask née Johnson at St. John's Church, Nottingham Road, Trowell Road, Nottingham.

Lilian was born on 11 June 1912 in Derby, Derbyshire. She died on 13 March 2007 at the Beeston Lodge Nursing Home in Nottingham. Lilian married Harold Joseph Pask, son of Frederick Harold & Frances Alice Pask née Wright, on 20 June 1936 in St. Thomas, Derby, Derbyshire.

Her husband Harold, died on 7 April 1985, at the age of 75. Lilian and Harold are now finally together again.

Harold & Lilian had three children, 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Lilian was a wonderful, kind person who dedicated her whole life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. It was a pleasure and privilege to know her.

George & Mary Pask née Fitzjohn

This information relates to Chart 17, a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Cambridgeshire.

Nick Pask wrote to us yesterday relating to his ancestor George Pask who was baptised in 1818 in Thorney, Cambridgeshire. George's descendants are detailed in the chart George Pask, (1817 - 1904) Thorney, Cambridgeshire, lived in Eye, Northamptonshire #2912.

Nick originally wrote to us 2004, he is still pursuing his research on a possible link between George and John & Mary Pask née Hilton. I am sure he will be delighted if anyone can provide any supporting information.

Pasks of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

There has been an absence of entries in the blog over the past week as I have been working on a draft of a publication The Pasks of Lincolnshire. The publication is part of the preparations for the Pask Family Gathering on July 26, 2008.

Currently my focus is working on the format, and style of the publication. This will be used as the basis for all publications in the series. We are trying to minimize the effort by using the information stored in the database. This has been challenging, however we are almost there. As we are most familiar with Stuart's direct ancestors and their related families we have chosen the Pasks of Great Gonerby to be the "guinea pigs". This will then be a chapter in The Pasks of Lincolnshire.

During this process we have identified a lot of missing gaps in the information. So you expect a significant update on the Great Gonerby Pasks in the next website update.

More information on the pending publications, will follow in the near future.

Bernard William & Gwendoline Grace Pask née Sheehan

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Australia.

Today I received an interesting e-mail from Helen Bass née Pask, who lives in Brisbane, Australia. Her parents were Bernard William & Gwendoline Grace Pask née Sheehan who died in 1994, and have a memorial in Lilydale Lawn Cemetery, Melbourne.

Helen writes:

I don't have much information about the family tree, but am now wanting to discover as much as I can ! I do remember hearing the name Lambert Pask, many years ago but do not know how, or if he is related to me.
The Lambert Pask she refers to may possibly be a Lambert who married Charlotte Walsher on 4 June 1854 in Lambeth, London. Lambert and Charlotte immigrated to Australia as assisted passage on the ship "Agra", arriving in December 1854.

Charles & Elizabeth Williamson née Pask

This information relates to a Lincolnshire family who lived in Spilsby, currently unconnected to a main branch.

During my research into the Spilsby families, I found the marriage on 14 May 1840 of Elizabeth Pask and Charles Williamson. I subsequently located them in the 1841-1881 census.

Elizabeth was born in 1814 in Tattershall, or Ruskington [1851 Census]. Charles was born in 1813 in Teigh, Rutland, and his mother was possibly Mary Williamson, a Nurse. I have not currently able to trace Elizabeth's parents.

Charles & Elizabeth had six children, all born in Sleaford:

    1. George Williamson b. 1844
    2. Mary Williamson b. 1847
    3. Jane Williamson b. 1849
    4. Ann Williamson b. Apr 1850
    5. Betsey Williamson b. 1853
    6. Charles Williamson b. 1855
Charles & Elizabeth lived all their lives in Sleaford, and Charles died in 1885, and Elizabeth in 1888.

This information will be available on the website in the next update.

      Pasks of Sleaford

This information relates to a Lincolnshire family, currently unconnected to a main branch.

Heidi Ann Girton contacted me last week relating to her 3 x great grandmother Mary Anne Pask, who was christened on 29 August 1791 in New Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

      Heidi writes:

Mary Ann married William Hubbard, Sr. in 1815 in New Sleaford. They had 10 children all christened in Walcot near Folkingham. William and Mary Ann immigrated to Wisconsin in Sep 1851 along with many of their children. Their daughter (my GG-Grandmother) Mary Hubbard had married John Firton and they were on the same ship to America with their two children. The Girton family settled in Michigan where his brothers resided. I believe Mary Anne’s father was Jonas Pask, christened 22 Jul 1759 in Heydour and her mother’s name was Ann. The Jonas name is passed down the family. From the IGI, Jonas’s parents may have been John and Anne Paske.

Today I researched this family in the Sleaford area. From the Sleaford parish registers (we transcribed the Pask entries in the early 1980s), we found three other children of Jonas & Ann Pask. Unfortunately they died in infancy. I have now included in the database all the Sleaford parish records that we transcribed, and also those found in the National Burial Index. These will be available on the website in the next update.

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

As mentioned in the previous blog Henry & Mary Ann Pask née Palmer, I wrote to Pat Taylor, and she has kindly provided the death certificates for Henry Pask who died on 8 September 1912, and Mary Ann Pask née Palmer, who died 18 September 1886.

This information will be included in the next website update. Many thanks to Pat for providing the certificates.

      Golden Wedding Anniversary

This information relates to the blue-icon tree - descendants of Johannis [John] & Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Patricia Chown, from Hawaii, wrote to me today and earlier in the week. She has provided numerous snippets of information on her Lincolnshire Pasks, including this account from the Lincolnshire Chronicle:

In a quiet but happy manner, Mr and Mrs Edward Pask, of the "Ten Row", Nocton recently celebrated their golden wedding and they were the recipients of many congratulatory expressions. It was on Thursday, January 19th, l865, that Edward Pask, aged 27, son of Mr Pask of Nocton, was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Eliza Semper, aged 23, daughter of Mr Semper of Dunston (late of Holland Fen); the little sacrament being performed in the sacred precincts of Dunston Parish Church. In a close and loving union, Mr and Mrs Pask have, for half a century, threaded life's many and devious pathways; and are now decidedly "not out." They are well-known and highly respected in the district, where they have resided for 49 years; only staying at Dunston about 12 months after they were married. When our photographer-reporter called at the house a few days ago, they, were enjoying a little fireside chat with their daughter, who sees after their welfare; Optimistic; contented, modest, they abhor anything in the nature of what they call "a fuss," and it was only after much persuasion that they consented to sit for their photographs. As will be seen, they are hale and hearty, and but for a twinge of rheumatism now and again, Mr Pask tells us he would be in the pink; while his wife is also well able to get about, but she also suffers somewhat from shortness of breath. They are regular attenders at the Parish Church, which they have belonged during their whole sojourn in the village; and they are also frequently seen at the various gatherings, Mr Pask, as a member of the Dunston Oddfellows, which he has been associated with for a great number of years. At one time he was a bell-ringer at the church, and was also in the choir; and in both connections he made numbers of friends, being always popular wherever he went. Mr and Mrs Pask have six children - four girls and two boys and they are all married except one daughter. There are about 20 grandchildren.
      Lincolnshire Chronicle 13th February 1915.
The information relates to Edward & Mary Pask née Semper. Sadly Mary died the following year on May 11, 1916. Many thanks to Pat for providing this wonderful account. This information will be included in the website in the near future.

      Pask Burials in Sleaford, Lincolnshire

This information relates to Lincolnshire families, currently unconnected to a main branch.

Shelley Clack contacted me today. I mentioned Shelly in the previous blog Pask Burials in Nocton, Lincolnshire.

Shelly said that she had been at Sleaford cemetery today and found the following Pasks:

Pask, Ellen; d. 20 Jun 1927, age 59 yrs, W/o and s/w John Frederick Pask
      Pask, George; d. 9 Aug 1951, age 70 yrs, H/o and s/w Maud Pask Pask, John Frederick; d. 17 Jul 1927, age 62 yrs, H/o and s/w Ellen Pask
      Pask, Maud; d. 5 Jun 1966, age 74 yrs, W/o and s/w Geoge Pask

Inside St Denys Church, Sleaford, are three war memorials with Pask names:

Jan 1915 Roll of honour memorial - J Pask 1914-1919
Sleaford Company church Lads Brigade memorial (in transept) - J M Pask 1914 - 1919 Great War memorial (in nave) - J M Paske

On CWGC is a James Melbourne Pask who was a private in the Lincolnshire regiment. He died 13 Oct 1915. The site says his parents were Mr J F and Mrs E Pask of Holdingham, Sleaford. I believe this is the person named in St Denys church. It is likely
the above are all the same person, other names appear on more than one of the memorials and in some instances spellings have changed.
Thank you so much Shelley, it really helps putting the pieces together.
This information will be included in the near future in the database and subsequently the website.

Henry & Mary Ann Pask née Palmer

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

In response to the previous blog Eunice Grace Pask continued, Pat Taylor from Australia, contacted me. She writes:

Eunice Grace Pask, who is my first cousin, once removed, and it was with her father, George Pask, that my great grandfather, and her grandfather, Henry Pask, spent his last days in Willesden. I have obtained a copy of Henry Pask’s death certificate, which shows him dying of bronchitis in the Workhouse Infirmary, Acton Lane, Willesden age 88.

I have also purchased a copy of the death certificate of his wife, Mary Ann Pask née Palmer, who died of gastro-intestinal catarrh 3 days and collapse. Mary Ann Pask died at home at 30 Tower Road, Newington aged 61, and her death was witnessed by her daughter Emily Canning née Pask, my great aunt.

I have asked Pat whether she can provide an electronic copy of these certificates. This information will be included in the next website update. Many thanks for Pat for providing this information.

Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost , born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

Over the weekend I have been working on the information that Julian Bennet provided (as detailed in the previous blog titled Eunice Grace Pask continued). I came across some intriguing information relating to Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw:

In the census of 5 April 1891 they were enumerated at 34 Warrior Road, Lambeth. Henry was listed as aged 36 born in Newington, the Head of Household; a Cabinet Maker living with his wife Mary, daughter Elsie L. M., son Arthur G. J., and an elderly aunt Harriet Mitchell, a widow, a retired Chair Caner aged 69, born in Southwark.

I knew, from our previous research done in 2004-5, together with Pat (Margaret) Taylor, and Peter Talbot-Ashby, Henry and Mary had 14 children, although only 7 survived to maturity. Based on this information I knew they had another three children in the period 1891-1901. I then searched, and searched in the 1901 census. I tried all types of combinations, to no avail. I then focused on the daughter Mercy Mary Pask, who was born in 1900. I found her, and the family:

      RG13; Piece: 549; Folio: 115; Page: 54.
12 Ladywell Park, Lewisham, a Cabinet Maker, living with his wife Mary, and children Arthur G. J., Grace M., Ada M., and Mercy M. Enumerated under the name of Leonard H. Shaw.

Obviously, they had taken Mary's maiden name. However why Henry called himself Leonard is not sure. Although Pat had previously said that he was a Shakespearian actor, so perhaps he changed his name for this purpose. All the children were registered under the name of Pask. All other details except the surname were correct.

      Sidney George Pask (1920-1990)

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Suffolk. The earliest known progenitor is Henry & Frances Pask née Wallaker, who lived in Kedington, Suffolk in the 1790s.

Whilst searching in www.ancestry.co.uk, I found two Pask photographs, in the Public Member Photos database.

Sidney George Pask, was previously not listed in the database (only approximately 60% of our records have been currently included). However during the weekend I have researched his family, and ancestors. I have linked him back five generations to Henry & Frances Pask née Wallaker of Kedington, Suffolk.

      1. Parents: George & Elizabeth H. Pask née Butler, they had 7 children
      2. Grandparents: Elijah & Olga Pask née Basham, they had 10 children
      3. Great-grandparents: George & Ann Paske née Boreham, they had 11 children
      4. Great-great-grandparents: Henry & Mary Pask née Mison, they had 9 children
      5. Great-great-great-grandparents: Henry & Frances Pask née Wallaker, also had 9 children

This information will be included in the database in the near future. However it may be sometime, as not all the children are listed, and fully researched.

      Eunice Grace Pask continued

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost , born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

In August 2006, Julian Bennet from Devon, contacted me about his grandmother. See the previous blog titled Eunice Grace Pask.

Subsequently, whilst in the process of including this information, I realised that Eunice's marriage in the GRO Index, was not indexed under the name of Pask. I searched for John (who was indexed as John E. P. Bennet), and found Eunice was listed under Park. So two errors relating to this marriage!

Amongst the e-mails exchanged, Julian asked:

Is there a link between the famous jockey Frederick Archer. He [Julian's father] tells me that family talk was always that there was a link between the Pask family and Frederick Archer but we have never been able to substantiate this. I believe that Frederick had a troubled life and killed himself at an early age.
The connection may well be through Eunice's mother Jane Pask née Archer.

I am in the process of adding the information from the gedcom that Julian has provided.

Pask, Paske Family Gathering - July 2008

Today Jo Pask from Suffolk, Stuart, and myself will have our first planning meeting on the Pask, Paske Family Gathering that will be held on July 26, 2008 in Suffolk.

Keep this date free in your diary. All people interested, or related to the Pask, Paske, Pasque families and derivatives of the name are invited, whether they are interested in family history or not.

I will keep you posted on all the preparations and plans for this significant event. There is a new category in the blog - Pask Family Gathering 2008. This will help you to keep up-to-date on everything.

      Sampler on ebay

A sampler has appeared on www.ebay.co.uk that was created by Sarah Pask aged 12, and dated 1894.

My passion, after family history, is cross-stitch. I have several family photographs that I have converted to cross-stitch.

Therefore I am bidding for this sampler, to try and keep it in the Pask family. If you think this is one of your family I would be more than happy to let you bid for it. However please do not start bidding against me, or we could see the price rocket!

There are 4-5 possible Sarah Pasks in that period:

      1882/Q1 PASK, Elizabeth Sarah Poplar 1c 654
      1882/Q4 PASK, Sarah Ann Wortley 9c 247
      1882/Q4 PASK, Sarah Risbridge 4a 548
      1883/Q1 PASK, Sarah Ann Stamford 7a 369
      1883/Q1 PASK, Sarah Jane Warwick 6d 618

My guess it will be Sarah from the Risbridge registration district. However I will try and determine where the seller obtained it. This will hopefully enable us to identify which Sarah lovingly sewn it.

Joseph & Martha Pask née Edwards

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Lincolnshire.

As a follow-on to yesterday's blog Australian Pasks, I wrote to Fred L. Taylor, who is researching the Descendants of John & Susan Pask née Empingham, and he provided this excellent photograph of Joseph & Martha Pask née Edwards with eleven children.

The photograph hung on Fred's "Nana Pask's" dining room wall. Fred has been in contact with Brian Keith Pask, the son of Colin Keith Pask (born 27 April 1912). Brian has provided the birth dates of Joseph & Martha's children.

Sincere thanks to all concerned, and especially Fred for providing this wonderful photograph. This information will be included in the database in the near future.

      Australian Pasks

Yesterday, and today, I received further information from Colleen Willis, our dedicated Australian researcher, who lives in Queensland.

She has been looking at Queensland records and found some really good leads:

Joseph Pask arrived Brisbane on the "Bulimba" March 1887 when he was 21. Joseph originated from Blankney in Lincolnshire, and was a descendant of John & Susannah Pask née Empingham who lived in Timberland, Lincolnshire. Joseph married Martha Edwards on 5 July 1892. They had eight children between 1893 and 1912:

      1. Edward Joseph b. 2 May 1893, he married 1924 Hazel Knowles
      2. Stanley John b. 24 October 1894
      3. Susannah May b. 22 May 1896 m. 1924 Horace Gibbons
      4. Allan Roy b. 2 January 1898 m. 1925 Alice Hawley
      5. Donald b. 28 January 1906
      6. Clarence Wilton b. 14 November 1907 m. 1933 Maud Brumpton
      7. Dolena b. 8 November 1909
      8. Colin Keith b. 27 April 1912

Additionally Colleen provided information on other Australian immigrants:

      • Rosetta Pask who married 26 May 1883 to William Stokes
      • William Partington Pask who m. c 1878 to Margaret Stewart, they had eight children.
      • Captain Walter Pask born 1906, Durham, his next-of-kin given as Margaret - he served in World War II.
      • Ernest George William born 1924 London, next-of-kin Alfred, also served in World War II.
      • Lambert Pask, (son of Lambert and Charlotte) he was married to Alice Hinkley. He died 1919, in Chatswood (N.S.W.)

We will do some further research on these Australians in the near future. In the meantime, many thanks to Colleen for this information.

      Pask Burials in Nocton, Lincolnshire

This information relates to the blue-icon tree - descendants of Johannis [John] & Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

I was searching the internet and found on the Interment website, the cemetery records of All Saints Churchyard in Nocton, Lincolnshire, England. Shelley Clack had transcribed, and contributed these records in January. The records included several Pasks:

Sincere thanks to Shelley for her dedication to record, and transcribe 346 records. This has provided valuable information that spans 161 years, and three generatons of this Nocton family.

A full list of Pasks, and related families, listed in Nocton is available in the Place Index.

This information will be included in the next website update.

David & Eleanor Dinah Pask née Goding

This information relates to the Purple-Icon tree - descendants of John & Frances Pask née Haffinden who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

Another snippet of information from Colleen Willis, was information on David & Eleanor Pask. Colleen wrote:

I noticed on your site a David with Eleanor, this would be David born 1865 died 1943 who married Eleanor Goding in Oakleigh 1895. Eleanor born 1872, died 1947.

David was the son of James Horton & Margaret Pask née McLeod.

Many thanks to Colleen for this additional information. It will be included in the next website update.

      John Pask (1825-1913)

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Suffolk.

As mentioned in an earlier blog, Colleen Willis wrote to me at the beginning of this month about Isaac Pask. Additionally, Colleen provided me information on John Pask of Ulladula. She wrote:

Regarding the John Pask at UllaDulla, his death is recorded 1913 (ref, 2880/1913 N.S.W. bdm Milton) Milton and Ulladulla are bordering places on the south coast of New South Wales. His parents George and Elizabeth. I think this would be the
John pask born c 1825 to George and Elizabeth (Ong) in Suffolk. I presume he did not marry. He arrived in 1855 age 28 on the Victory (N.S.W. State records film 2137/2472).
John was the son of George & Elizabeth Pask née Ong, and a descendant of Henry & Frances Paske née Wallaker who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

Many thanks to Colleen for this additional information. It will be included in the next website update.

      James Horton Pask

This information relates to the Purple-Icon tree - descendants of John & Frances Pask née Haffinden who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

As previously mentioned, Colleen Willis wrote from Australia, and mentioned the Assisted British Immigration Index to Registers of Assisted British Immigrants 1839-1871, available at the Public Record Office Victoria. There was a reference to a James Pask aged 44 who arrived in February 1855 on the ship IDA, Book 088 Page 005.

This may well be James Horton Pask, the founder father of the large Australian-New Zealand Pask families.

James' wife Julia née Asplin, had died in 1848. In the 1851 census, James' children James, George, and Frances were inmates in The Rochford Union Workhouse. Therefore it is likely that James Horton was provided with assisted passage to Australia. This is purely assumption, and needs to be verified.

James Horton's sons James and George went on to join the Navy. However James also immigrated to Victoria Australia, and then to New Zealand.

      Isaac Pask

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Cambridgeshire.

Colleen Willis wrote to me earlier this month about Isaac Pask, who was baptized on 21 May 1816 in Thorney, Cambridgeshire. He was the son of John & Ann Pask née Hilton.

Colleen had found Isaac in the Assisted British Immigration Index to Registers of Assisted British Immigrants 1839-1871, available at the Public Record Office Victoria, Australia. He had arrived on the Lady Macdonald in July 1852. Colleen also found that he died in 1878 aged 61.

I searched the records, and realised that Isaac was listed twice. This has been rectified and the records merged. Many thanks for Colleen in providing this information.

      Susannah Pask of Sedgebrook, Lincolnshire

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Lincolnshire.

Yesterday at Bletchley Park I met David Barton, who is researching the Braddon One-Name Study. Today David kindly gave me some information on Susannah Pask from the Grantham Petty Sessions dated 15 January 1847:

Jas FURMIDGE, of Sedgebrook, consented to pay 1s 3d in an affiliation case: the Magistrates allowed the small sum in consequence of the female (Susanna Pask) having previously had a child.

The report referred to Susannah, the daughter of William & Ann Pask née Whitehead.

The information came originally from Anne Cole, who has been collecting reports from the Petty Sessions bastardy cases reported in the Lincoln, Rutland & Stamford Mercury. Her transcriptions for 1847 are available in Genuki.

Clement Richard & Dorothy Pask née Bullock

This information relates to the green-icon tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow.

We have received an e-mail from Dena Bullock. She wrote:

On the 28th October 1899 my Great Aunt, Dorothy Bullock married Clement Richard Paske at Fornham All Saints. Suffolk. This is all I know about her married life. Do you know anymore? Were there any photographs of the wedding, or any
other occasions? Did they have any children?
We have advised Dena that a transcript of their marriage can be downloaded from the Sources of Information from the narratives of Clement Richard & Dorothy Pask née Bullock. Hopefully another interested researcher can provide information on their children. There are several possibilities in the GRO Birth Indexes, however it is difficult to establish the family links

      Sidney Robert B. Pask (1906-1980)

This information relates to Chart 14, the descendants of William PASK, (1791 - 1874) Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

Dick Quinell wrote to us yesterday regarding Sidney Robert B. Pask.

      He writes:

Sid was the absolutely inspirational biology teacher of genius who taught me and many others biology at St Paul's School between 1928 and 1966 (I was of the 1956-59 vintage) - among his many, many distinguished students, several of whom have written of him in books and periodicals with deep affection and admiration, are Sir Jonathan Miller, Oliver Sacks, Lord Robert Winston, Lord Ian McColl, Sir David Smith, Prof. Harold Preiskel, Dr. Barry Cox - the list goes on and on. We are organising an affinity group - while we're all still alive - to include as many alumni of Sid's as we can find, to exchange reminiscences, and most importantly, to form the nucleus of an endowment for a long-overdue memorial to Sid - possibly a biology laboratory at St Paul's, which is undergoing extensive redevelopment in the near future.

What a tribute to obviously a very gifted and dedicated person. If anyone can help Dick, he is particularly anxious to contact Sid's daughter.

      Changes to Blog Settings

I have reorganised the look-and-feel of the blog.

Following on from the suggestion made by Jo Pask, as detailed in the blog References to Coloured Family Trees, I have started to use Labels for each post.

I have moved the labels list to the top of the blog. This will enable you to locate postings about your specific area of interest. Additionally, I have included a hierarchy of postings.

Hope you like the changes. If not, e-mail me. I am open to suggestions.

John & Elizabeth Pask née White - Gloucestershire

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Gloucestershire.

Bob Shewman wrote from Ontario, Canada. He is researching a Pask connection to his Carley family. Bob has provided extensive information on John & Elizabeth Pask née White who lived in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. John was a Shoemaker, and was born in Cheltenham c1834.

      Bob writes:

According to the 1868 marriage record of John Pask (GRO Sep 1868 Evesham Vol. 6c Pg 407 No. 115) his father’s name is Philip Pask, a farmer. They married on July 4, 1868.

I have searched the database, and cannot currently locate any additional information on Philip Pask, or John Pask.

Bob details in his extensive information on John & Elizabeth, and their descendants, that they immigrated to Canada in 1882. Shortly afterwards John was killed by a railway train on June 27, 1883. Elizabeth then married James Meacham on October 16, 1883.

Bob's information will be included in the database in the near future.

      US Department of Veterans Affairs

Through the Guild of One-Names Studies (GOONS), I heard of an excellent source of information from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). You can search for burial locations of veterans and their family members in VA National Cemeteries, state veterans cemeteries, various other military and Department of Interior cemeteries, and for veterans buried in private cemeteries when the grave is marked with a government grave marker. There are listed:

      • 11 Pask
      • 28 Paske
      • 1 Pasque
This information will be included in the database in the near future.

      James Morton Pask (1848 - 1930) - British Museum

This information relates to Chart 39, the descendants of Thomas Pask, (1766 - b1851), who lived in St. Pancras.

Last week we were contacted by David Noden from the Department of Africa, Oceania and Americas in the British Museum. He has provided some very interesting information on James Morton Pask.

David is compiling biographies on people who have been responsible for the museum's Ahanta collections. He hopes to turn the biographies into a permanent record of the collectors who have contributed to the museum.

David advised us that the British Museum received two drinking cups from James Morton Pask in 1874 which he had brought back from the Ashantee war of that year, he appears to have been on HMS Druid during the bombardment of Dixcove on The Gold Coast, Ghana.

James wrote in his accompanying letter:

      Dear Sir,

I send you two skulls. They were taken by King Hama-dikky (King of Dixcove) after the bombardment of Aquidah by HMS Druid, and the attack on the town by the Dixcove river in the last war.
I received them on the evening after the battle from his majesty through the commandant.
They are cut in the manner you will observe in all probability to serve as drinking cups.
The men of Aquidah are of the Ahanta tribe.

      I am your obedient servant

      James Morton Pask R.N

More information on James Morton Pask is available in his detailed narrative, which will be updated in the near future. We plan to visit The National Archives at Kew to obtain James' naval record and any other information that will help David in his project.

Descendants of James William & Emma Pask née Avey

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Suffolk.

David Ruddock wrote to us last week, inquiring about a Jane Pask who was born in Bury St. Edmunds in c1858, and who married Frederick Brown in Sudbury registration district in 1875.

As we were away on vacation, David searched the website and determined that in fact Jane was Anna Jane who was born in Bury St. Edmunds in 1858. Furthermore, he determined that she was the daughter of James William & Emma Pask née Avey. He had established that although the ancestry.com marriage index gave an Edmund Avey, the original marriage index read Emma Avey. I confirmed this by also looking at the original GRO image.

David also checked the census records, that confirmed that James William's wife Emma was born in Brockley, Suffolk and checked the 1841 Census record in Brockley and found Emma. She was baptised on 30 June 1833 in Brockley - her parents were Charles & Ann Avey. Charles was a publican of the Fox Tavern in Brockley.

Many thanks to David for this information that has been included in the database, and will be available on the website in the next update.

Descendants of James & Rebecca Hodges née Pask

This information relates to the red-icon tree - descendants of Isaac PASK who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

In February 2006, Kay M Hodges contacted us regarding information on James & Rebecca Hodges née Pask. He has extensively researched this family and have amassed a considerable amount of additional information. At that time we in the process of moving from Germany back to the UK, and unfortunately the information was not included in the database.

James and Rebecca had five children, although only one survived. Probably the strain of losing four children in the first few months of their lives was too much for Rebecca. She was hospitialised in June 1864, and died in April 1865. She is buried together with her parents Isaac & Elizabeth Pask née Stephens in Llanvaches, Monmouthshire.

James, and Rebecca, were baptised into the LDS church by Rebecca's father Isaac Pask on 11 August 1850. On 17 March 1851 James was ordained. After Rebecca's death in 1865, James decided to immigrate to Utah. Unfortunately during the journey to Salt Lake Valley James died on 25 September 1866 near Farson, Wyoming, America, at the age of 38.

Their eldest and only surviving son James in 1871 immigrated to Utah, where he later married Emma Steddar. James died on 6 September 1910 in Lewiston, Utah, America, at the age of 59.

Many thanks to Kay (Kermit) for providing us with this very interesting information. I have finally included this in the database, and this will be available on the website in the next update.

Descendants of Robert & Gertrude Alice Pask née Barnes

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family.

I received a blog comment from Jeff Johnson to the recent blog on Robert & Gertrude Alice Pask née Barnes.

      Jeff writes:

I am the son of Sylvia Pask and would confirm that Renee is Eileen. She married George Clark and lived in Upwell.

Many thanks for this Jeff. It is good to know that the blogs are being read, and hopefully found in internet searches. I would be very interested to have any additional information that you may have relating to this family.

This information has been included in the database, and will be available on the website in the next update.

Descendants of William Marshall & Nellie Price née Pask of Nottingham

This information relates to the red-icon tree - descendants of Isaac PASK who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Last January, Jason Price contacted us relating to his grandfather Garnett Price, the son of William Marshall & Nellie Price née Pask. Nellie was born in 1884 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. She was the daughter of Isaac & Elizabeth Pask née Harrison.

Jason provided photographs of Isaac & Elizabeth, together with their son William. Also there is two young women, probably Isaac & Elizabeth's younger daughters Mabel or Gertrude. Jason believed that Gertrude perished in a factory fire in 1916. She is buried in the Pask family grave at Lenton.

In addition, Jason provided up-to-date information on the descendants of William & Nellie. Interestingly, these included Stanley, the great-grandfather of another researcher Justin Hevness, who contacted us via Genes Reunited.

Thanks to Paula Payne who has helped considerably to piece together the Nottingham Pasks.
This information has been included in the database, and will be available on the website in the next update.

      References to Coloured Family Trees

I received a suggestion from Jo Pask to include in the blog, a reference to what coloured tree they belonged to. For example, Jo's branch is the pale green tree. I agree that it would make it so much easier to work out whether the blog refers to a particular branch.

Descendants of Isaac & Rachael Pask of Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire

Greetings from Phuket, Thailand. We are here on holiday celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. Access to e-mails is very limited and download speed slower than the telephone modem.

However, this has given me an opportunity to catch up on the backlog of e-mails and information relating to the Pask, Paske One-Name Study.

This has included information provided by Paula Payne, relating to the book Joseph Alfred Bradney's of Monmouthshire. This contained interesting information on the Pasks of Cwmcarvan, in the 1740s, particular Isaac Pask who married Rachael c1743 and they had five children, three of these children are named in the book:

      Descendants of Bertram Lionel Pask

I was recently in contact with Sarah Newell, via Genes Reunited, regarding her grandmother's sister Jennie Pask née Geggie. Jennie married Frederick Henry Pask, a son of Bertram Lionel & Elizabeth Pask née Johnson.

This has prompted me to start include some of the significant information provided by Andy Pask. All the certificates have been transcribed, but I am awaiting some clarification as some of the images due to size were difficult to transcribe.

In the meantime, in the next website update there will be some additional information on Bertram Lionel's family.

Descendants of George Albert & Kate Pask née Avery

In June last year, Alison Pask formerly Bynorth contacted us, and it was established that she was Stuart's first cousin, twice removed. Her great-grandfather was Stuart's uncle George Albert Pask.

Alison contacted us again last Wednesday and since then we have been updating the information on this family. As the majority of information is relating to living people, only the names are shown.

This branch of the family can however been seen in the descendancy chart for John & Alice Pask née Woodcock who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire in the 18th century.

This information will be included in the next website update.

Albert Ernest & Marjorie Joan Pask née Griggs

Last week in Genes Reunited we linked to Bill Griggs from Adelaide Australia. He advised that his 4th cousin, once removed was Marjorie Joan Griggs who was married to Albert Ernest Pask. We have been able to confirm that they married in 1949 in the Bromley registration district. Albert was the son of Arthur Claude & Susan Pask née Murfitt.

Arthur Claude Pask was a Private in the 2nd Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment. He died in World War 1 of wounds, and was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium.

This information, together with an update on this family, will be available in the next website update.

      Emily Pask's Bible

In September Lucy Meyer-Hubner wrote and advised that a Pask family bible was listed on Kevin Roy Shucksmith's website. I contacted Kevin and he advised that it had been used as a leaf press by someone and has a few leaves still left in it. The cover is worn but still holding and the first and last few pages are foxed.

The bible belonged to Emily Pask, who was born in 1863 in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire. She was the daughter of George & Betsy Pask née Woolhouse. John Pask of Aldershot (Emily's great-great nephew) has been researching the Pask-Woolhouse family for over 25 years.

John advised us a few weeks ago that he has now received the bible (new testament).

      Maternal Narratives Update

After a lot of nagging, I resorted to bribery and corruption, and finally got Stuart to update his maternal narratives. He last updated the website with these narratives on 16 December 2005. They then included 693 people.

The maternal narratives are kept in a separate database that Stuart solely maintains. For additional information see the introductory notes on My Ancestors and Direct Relations.

A full list of these recent changes to the maternal narratives is available in the New or Changed Narratives section, and now includes 835 people.

      Monmouthshire Pasks - Holcomb Connection

Yesterday, through Genes Reunited, I connected with Ronald Elsey who was researching Charlotte Pask born c1829 in Monmouthshire. I advised him that although there was very little information on Charlotte, that she may be the person he was looking for.

All I knew was that in the 1841 census she was listed as aged 10, in the household of Margaret Powell [possibly her grandmother], at Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

Ron responded and provided some information on Charlotte. Ron wrote:

Charlotte Pask c.1829-1902 Newchurch, Monmouthshire married John Holcomb 1822-1887 Charlwood, Surrey (son of Francis Holcomb 1778-1850 and Ann Mitchell b.1778). Their children were:
      • Louisa 1850 Newchurch, Monmouthshire
      • Mary 1852 Itton, Monmouthshire
      • John 1859
      • Henry 1863
      • Agnes 1867
      • Alice 1871
      • all of Llangybi (Llangibbi), Monmouthshire.
Based on this information, I searched in the GRO marriage Indexes for Charlotte's marriage. I found:
      1848/Q2 Pask, Charlotte Chepstow 26 65
      1848/Q2 Holecombe, John Chepstow 26 65
Interestingly, listed on the same page was Timothy Pask who married Mary Ann Rees. Pat Maybrey, who is also researching this family, advised that Timothy & Mary Ann married on 23 March 1848 in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire. As their marriage is on the same page, Charlotte and John were probably married on the same day. It is fair to assume that Timothy and Charlotte are probably siblings. Based on this assumption, Charlotte is the daughter of James & Ann Pask née Morgan. Unfortunately without purchasing Charlotte's marriage certificate I cannot prove this.

I have found Charlotte and John listed in the 1851-1881 census. In the 1891 & 1901 census Charlotte is listed as a widow, living with her daughter Agnes. All the census detail verify the information kindly provided by Ron.

      Pasks of Boothby Graffoe, Lincolnshire

A recent connection in GenesReunited, made me revisit a family that lived in Boothby Graffoe Lincolnshire for over 100 years. Although it has been only 1-2 years since we last researched this family, the wealth of information that is now available has provided much more detailed information on this family.

Richard Pask, who originated from Caythorpe, moved to Boothby Graffoe probably after his marriage to Mary Wright, who was born there. They had eight children:

      1. Millicent Pask b. 5 Aug 18211
      2. Stephen Pask b. 21 Apr 1823, d. 3 Nov 1861
      3. Joseph Pask b. 8 Jul 1826, d. 21 Nov 1833
      4. Samuel Pask b. 5 Dec 1830, d. 1908
      5. Richard Pask b. 15 Jun 1834
      6. Ann Pask b. 17 Apr 1836
      7. Thomas Wright Pask b. 1 Dec 1839
      8. William Pask b. 1842 d. 1925

The updated information will be available in the next website update.

Descendants of John & Susan Pask née Empingham

Fred L. Taylor wrote to us last week, as he very surprised to see his Aunt & Godmother Gladys May Pask listed incorrectly. Since then, together with Fred, we have corrected the information, and found that she was the great grand-daughter of John & Susan Pask née Empingham who lived in Timberland, Lincolnshire.

John was born in 1776 in Gautby, Lincolnshire. In the 1851 census, he was listed as a Chelsea Pensioner. He married Susan Empingham on 21 February 1822, at the comparatively late age of 46, and they had seven children:

      1. Richard Pask b. 17 Nov 1822, d. Apr 1900
      2. Joseph Pask b. 1824, d. 1901
      3. Hannah Pask b. 14 Dec 1826
      4. Margaretta Pask b. 18 Oct 1829
      5. Ann Pask b. 1831, d. Feb 1833
      6. Ruth Pask b. 1831
      7. Edward Pask b. 1834 d. 1919

Their youngest son Edward married Elizabeth Bradshaw, and they had seven children. Their youngest son was also Edward (1872-1923), who married Fanny Maria Ardron in Lincoln. Edward and Fanny were Gladys' parents.

Fred has provided valuable information on this family, as the children were mostly born between 1902 and 1911 - a difficult period to research. With his detailed information we have been able to group together Edward & Fanny's family:

      1. Doris Eliza Pask b. 2 Nov 1902, d. 19 May 1972
        Doris emigrated to Australia
      2. Gladys May Pask b. 12 May 1904, d. 7 Mar 1994
      3. Mable Pask b. 10 Mar 1906, d. 15 Nov 1988
      4. Edward Leslie Pask b. 11 May 1908, d. 24 May 1936
      5. Joseph Pask b. 1 Feb 1913, d. 28 Oct 1931
      6. Kathleen Pask b. 8 Dec 1914, d. 19 Nov 2004

Their youngest daughter Kathleen was Fred's mother.

This information has been included in the database, and will be updated in the next website update. Sincere thanks to Fred for sharing his research.

      Marion Houghton Pask

Several months ago Sharen Gill wrote and sent me the very unusual birth certificate of her grandmother Marion Houghton Pask.

Marion was born on 13 September 1894 in Northorpe, Lincolnshire. Her birth was registered on 13 October 1894 and lists that she was the daughter of William Haigh & Mary Hannah Houghton née Pask.

However, all this information was corrected by a Statutory Declaration that was made on 19 November 1894 by Mary Hannah Pask and her father James Pask to Joseph Jackson Oates, the Register.

The events, as related by Sharen Gill née Whardle, were:

Mary Hannah Pask my great grandmother went to work as a maid in West Yorkshire and at that point we all thought it was Dewsbury she was working at, ie as that was where Marion was born, but as it transpires it was a villiage called Almondbury Huddersfield ... Mary Hannah Pask had not been in touch with her family in Prestwich for some time, a number of months, and the family became worried and sent her brother Noah to check on her, Noah found his sister Mary Hannah Pask living in a cottage in the grounds of the Houghton family home with a baby girl who was a few weeks old, this ofcourse being my grandmother. We know that Mary Hannah Pask returned home to Prestwich with Marion with the help of her brother Noah, hence now the story as we knew it unfolded, we were always lead to believe that William Haigh Houghton ( Marion's father) had intended to marry Mary Hannah Pask but his family had said if he did they would cut him off from the family and all inheritance, and at this point Mary Hannah Pask always said she would never allow that to happen, we were told that William Haigh Houghton was well to do maybe a Lord or son of a Lord. My grandmother was told she was paid for until she was 16 years old.I grew up knowing the story and listening to my Mother talk about how Polly ( Mary Hannah Pask's nickname) liked a drink in her later years and would talk about the Houghtons and who did his Lordship think he was sort of thing!

The certificate, together with the information that Sharen has extensively researched is included in the database, and will be updated in the next website update.

In my 20+ years of family history research I have never seen such a certificate. Sincere thanks to Sharen for sharing this fascinating information.
