Website Update 28 January 2018

The website was updated Sunday 28 January 2018.

19 new narratives have been added, and 44 changes made since the last update on 14 January 2018. There are now a total of 12,332 detailed narratives available on the website and 19,776 people (26 new) people in our database.

The focus of the update was two-fold:

Alex Attewell advised us in November 2017 about a correction required for Anne Wawnnikiewicz BAILLIE née HASTINGS. Unfortunately, the January 14 update did not include the correction, so Alex wrote to us again. How fortunate! Subsequently, we established that Anne was married in 1918, and shortly afterwards widowed. She then married Albert Holford PASKE, son of Amos PASKE and Jane PRICE, in 1924 in New Zealand. Their only daughter Gertrude, known as "Trudy" is still alive, and living in New Zealand. She is a 1st cousin, of Michael R.A. PASKE, who has helped us considerably with the research of Chart 49 - the PASKEs of Monmoutshire. Alex also put us in contact with Malcolm Zander, who in turn put us in contact with Gertrude's daughter Ruth Condor née Mawdsley. Sincere thanks to Alex, Malcolm, Ruth, and Michael in helping us put the pieces of the jigsaw together.

The other main family researched in this update, was the PASK(E)s of Risbridge, Suffolk. Terry Farrant, has been in contact since 2013, relating to Chart 6, and Chart 6a. Terry has provided a wealth of information on this Suffolk family.

Sincere thanks to all concerned with this latest website update.

Herbert Pask (1882-1915)

A brief commemoration service took place at 11:00 am on Friday 19th June 2015 at Clare War Memorial, Suffolk. A wreath was laid on behalf of Clare Town Council to mark the 100th anniversary of each of the Clare men who died in World War 1.

The first to fall from Clare was Herbert Pask on 19th June 1915.

Phil Gryce, Clare Town Councillor, gave a brief summary of Herbert's life, as described below. Two students from Stour Valley Community School laid the wreath on the Town Council's behalf. A minute's silence was held. Deputy Chair of Clare Town Council, Alan Parsley, recited from the Lawrence Binyon poem:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The last line was repeated by those present. The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, Paul Lord, had a brief word of thanks to the fallen and the need to commemorate them.

HERBERT PASK
Private 5965 2 Bn Suffolk Regiment

Herbert Pask was the youngest of seven children. The Pasks came from Stoke by Clare and lived in Chilton from about 1891. Walter Pask was in charge of the cattle at Chilton Lodge Farm.  In 1901, Herbert was 18 and working as a hay binder in Black Notley. In 1911 he was living with his parents at Chilton Lodge Farm and was a horse keeper on a farm.

One of the streets in the new development off Stoke Road has been named after him.

Many thanks to Terence Farant for forwarding this information, kindly provided to him by Phil Gryce, Clare Town Councillor.

This information on Herbert will be included in the next Pask website update. His cousin, John Meekings, was the son of Charles and Ursula Meekings née Pask.

Website Update 4 April 2011

The website was updated on Monday 4 April 2011.

There are three new family groups, two in Essex, and one in Suffolk:

Chart 53: Harry PASK, (1867- ) wife Norah CANNON, lived in Buckhurst Hill, Essex Harry was born in 1867, his place of birth is currently not known. He lived in Buckhurst Hill in Essex and was a Gardener. He married Norah CANNON on 8 May 1887, and they had three sons. Very little is known about this family. Harry was not found in any censuses, and no death is found in the GRO Indexes. Similarly only information on his son Albert Ernest has been found.

I have purchased birth, and marriage certificates for this family in order to piece together this family. Unfortunately they had three children who were in Epping Workhouse in the 1911 census, and their two older sons in the 1901 census. I am still trying to establish where Harry originated. Epping registration district is very close to the Essex/Suffolk border, and I believe that he may be part of Chart 06, or Chart 07.

Chart 54: William PASK, (1662- ) lived in Stambourne, Essex
William lived in Stambourne Essex, where his son was born, Very little is known about this family.

Chart 06a: John PASK, (1798-1861) wife Sarah MEERS, lived in Stoke by Clare, Suffolk
John PASK lived in Stoke by Clare. He married Sarah MEERS on 2 January 1820 in Stoke by Clare. John died in April 1861. Their descendants span five generations, and includes over 50 descendants. This family is assumed to be connected to Peter Pask of Chart 6. However, John's baptism has not been found.

Other updates included the following charts:

Chart 01: William PASKE, (c1695- ) lived in Wellingore, Lincolnshire
Chart 02-1 John PASK, eldest son of Suffolk Main Progenitor - John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow

Chart 02-2: Daniel Pask, second son of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow
Chart 06: Peter PASK, (1739-1821) wife Catherine FROST, lived in Kedington, Suffolk
Chart 07: Henry PASKE, (1765-1845) lived in Kedington, Suffolk
Chart 10: Essex Main Progenitor - John PASK, (1771-1847) Thundersley, Essex
