Marriage Certificate for John Pask & Harriett Lander née Hughes

The marriage certificate for John Pask & Harriett Lander née Hughes arrived on Saturday. The certificate has been scanned and will be included in the next website update.

They were married on 6 August 1837 in the parish church of St. Paul Convent Garden, [London] Middlesex. The marriage was witnessed by Harriett Ann Lander [possibly Harriett's young daughter], and Ann Hales.

John was a Musical Instrument Maker, a Widower of full age residing at Bow Street. His father was listed as John Pask, a Cheesemonger. Harriett Lander was a Widow of full age residing at Bow Street. Her father was listed as William Hughes a Tailor.

Further investigations are required, as it is still difficult to determine which of the eighteen John Pask born c1780s, currently in the database, is John's father.

Heirlooms Reunited

Just recently I was notified by Paula Payne, a Monmouthshire and Nottingham Pask researcher, that a Pask document was available on e-bay.

Document dated 2nd October 1869 - certificate of Acknowledgements of Deeds by Married Women. Signed by Charles Denton Leech and John Cambridge, commissioners appointed for the County of Suffolk for taking the Acknowlegements of Deeds By Married Woman. Refers to Edward Mills Pask and Elizabeth Sarah Pask his wife. Also mentions Joseph Hirst. Two page printed document with handwritten details. Final part of page two states that the premises wherein Elizabeth Sarah Pask stated to be interested are in Cemetery Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
Edward Mills Pask was born in 1842 and was the son of James PASK and Harriet Elizabeth MILLS. He married Elizabeth Sarah LOCKE on 25 December 1868 in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.

Cheekingly, I wrote to the seller Heirlooms Reunited, and said that if he did not sell it I would be very interested.

Today, he wrote to me that as he did not sell it, he will kindly send it to me free-of-charge.

Update 21 June: The document arrived in the post, as promised. We just love original documents - there is something about the look and feel of them.

Stow Marriage Transcripts

I received today five marriage certificates, provided yet again by Sandra Stevens as part of the Stow Registration District Marriage Challenge.

The Marriage Challenge is a Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Project in which volunteers (Challengers) search for marriage entries in the deposited Parish Registers for a particular Registration District for the period 1837 to 1911.

Sandra has kindly provided the following marriages:

The full details, and copies of the transcripts will be included in the website in the near future.

Again, we are indebted to Sandra for her efforts.

PASK Families in Brentford early 1900s

Whilst researching a connection for Midge who is researching via Genes Reunited, we established that there were several PASK families in the Brentford Registration District in the early 1900s.

This may not be the complete list. We are still trying to link the births registered in the period 1901-1912.

These families are all related to the Suffolk Progenitor John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, and included in their family chart.

Charles Pask (1856-1939)

As mentioned in a previous blog, we found information on Charles Pask in the New York City Death Index. Charles was the great-grandfather of John Pask, our long time friend, and fellow researcher.

John has applied for the death certificate, and this arrived yesterday.

It details that he died on the 22 April 1939 @ 5.45 pm at 41-53 Glenwood, Queens NY and was buried in Ocean View Cemetery on April 25 1939 aged 84 yrs. Charles' occupation was given as Livery business.

His father's name was given as George Pask from England and mother Elizabeth Woolhouse also from England.

This information confirms our assumption that Charles was the sister of Caroline [Carrie] Pask. See today's blog Christopher Lewis' Photograph Album that provides photographs of Charles' children.

Many thanks to John for providing this information.

Christopher Lewis' Photograph Album

Two years ago Christophe Lewis and his brother Tim visited us and gave us the opportunity to scan their photograph album that contained 40+ photographs of their grandmother Caroline Pask and her family. These have finally been included in an electronic album.

Many of the photographs were unidentified. Two of the photographs were taken in New York in the late 1890s, and were of three young brothers - Durant, Marshall Woolhouse, and Royal Charles Pask. Inscribed on the back were their dates of birth. We were unaware of the connection between these children and Caroline although they were obviously relatives.

Recently, we have made the connection that these photographs were from Caroline's brother Charles who immigrated to America.

Thingoe Marriage Transcripts

In January I received over 60 marriage transcripts for the Thingoe Registration District. They were as a result of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Marriage Challenge. The Marriage Challenge is a Guild Project in which volunteers (Challengers) search for marriage entries in the deposited Parish Registers for a particular Registration District (RD) for the period 1837 to 1911.

For Thingoe Marriage Registration District, the challenger was Sandra Stevens. We are indebted to her for these marriage transcripts as they help considerably in linking families together.

At that time, I included the marriages for the people already in the database. However I am still working through those not yet included in the database, and linking the families together. This week I included the information gleaned from the following transcripts:

  • George Nunn and Ada Pask, married in Horringer, Suffolk on 2 April 1904
  • Harry Pask and Ellen Wallace, married in Horringer, Suffolk on 28 October 1905
  • John Oliver Prewer and Maud Annie Pask, married in Horringer, Suffolk on 8 November 1906
  • Arthur Pask and Janet Ramsey, married in Horringer, Suffolk on 14 May 1910
  • Walter Dennis Gooch and Agnes Mary Pask, married in Hengrave, Suffolk on 7 September 1903
  • Thomas Cuthbertson and Letitia Pask, married in Hengrave, Suffolk on 7 September 1903
  • Charles William Irons and Frances Pask, married in Great Whelnetham, Suffolk on 12 June 1905
  • Alfred Foreman and Ada Alice Paske, married in Flempton, Suffolk on 4 February 1904
  • William Tatum and Harriett Sophia Pask, married in Denham St. Mary, Suffolk on 5 August 1901
Sincere thanks to Sandra for this valuable information.

Website Update 11 June 2006

The website was updated today. This includes updates on:

The descendants of Thomas & Hephzibah Pask née Tyte, as provided by Helen Dorman. Most of the information is "living", however the names are included in the family chart of the Suffolk progenitor John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow.

Information gleaned from the marriage certificate for Thomas & Hannah Pask née Parish. Although not yet proven, it is likely that Thomas was the son of Thomas Pask, who was born in Thundersley, Essex the son of John PASK and Frances HAFFINDEN. The marriage certificate was witnessed by Mary Pask. Further investigation is required.

Information gleaned from marriage transcripts from Thingoe Registration District (see separate blog), as kindly provided by Sandra Stevens.

A full list of these recent changes to the narratives is available in the New or Changed Narratives section.

Marriage Certificate for Thomas & Hannah Pask née Parish

The marriage certificate for Thomas & Hannah Pask née Parish arrived this morning. The certificate will be scanned and included in the next update.

They were married on December 25, 1840 in the parish church of Upminster. The marriage was witnessed by Henry Taverson (curate) and Mary Pask.

Thomas was a Cordwainer, aged 21 a bachelor residing at Upminster. His father was listed as Thomas Pask, a Farmer.

Hannah was a Servant, aged 25 a spinster residing at Upminster. His father was listed as Joseph Pask [Parish], a Labourer. The certificate erroneously shows the father's name as Pask.

The father of Thomas could very well be the Thomas Pask, who was born in Thundersley, Essex the son of John PASK and Frances HAFFINDEN. Further investigation is required.

Victor Allan & Catherine M. H. Pask née Busfield

I received extensive information from Helen Dorman who I initially made contact through Genes Reunited. She is the grand-daughter of Victor Allan Pask who was born in 1885 in Stansfield, Suffolk, the son of Thomas & Hephzibah Pask née Tyte. Victor married Catherine M. H. Busfield.

Helen is the 5th great-grandson of the Suffolk progenitor John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow.

Work Came First!

Unfortunately this week there has been very little research done. I was on business in Walldorf Germany, near to Heidelberg. We have been beta testing a new system to be implemented in early August. Thankfully good progress was made but everything was very hectic.

However I did receive information from Helen Dorman and Chris Bell. I hope to get chance to answer them today. Although the garden has exploded whilst I have been away and Stuart must have mislaid the lawn mower!

West Ham Marriage Transcripts

I received three marriage transcripts yesterday. They are as a result of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Marriage Challenge. The Marriage Challenge is a Guild Project in which volunteers (Challengers) search for marriage entries in the deposited Parish Registers for a particular Registration District (RD) for the period 1837 to 1911.

The three marriages relate to the West Ham Registration District, and include:

Leo Taylor and Lucy Elizabeth Pask - 7 July1883
Stephen Cocksedge and Millie Pask - 28 March 1886
Thomas Pask and Eliza Martha Mercer - 6 April 1885

Sincere thanks to the Challengers for this valuable information. This information will be included in the next website update.

William Stanley & Emily Pask née Bugg

Recently through Genes Reunited, we connected with Rebecca Hunt, who is the grand-daughter of William Stanley & Emily Pask née Bugg.

William was born in 1902 in the Sudbury registration district. He was the son of Ernest PASK and Annie BACON. William married Emily BUGG in 1926. William's neice was Jo Pask, a researcher that we have known for over 20 years. Jo has kindly provided family group records for the descendants of William & Emily. We are currently adding these to the database.

Subsequently their names will be included in the family chart of the Suffolk progenitor John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow.

William Pask born 1860 in Stainton, Lincolnshire

Chris Bell kindly provided the birth certificate of William Pask who was born on 9 May 1960 in Stainton [by Langworth] Lincolnshire. He was the son of Thomas and Charlotte Pask née Knowles.

In the 1881 census he was living with his brother Edward Pask, in Salford Lancashire. He married Alice Nelson in 1884 in the Prestwich registration district, and they moved to Pendleton Lancashire. William and Alice had three children Christina (1884-1895), Elizabeth Ann (1888-), and Lily (1891-).

Unfortunately his wife, Alice, died in 1893 the same year as his father Thomas. William then married Ruth Owen in 1894. Although they are listed in the 1901 census, no death record has been found in the GRO indexes for William or Ruth. Similarily no record of a marriage or death of their daughters Elizabeth Ann, and Lily. It could be assumed that they moved abroad perhaps to Canada, a popular destination at that time.

Many thanks to Chris for providing us with the birth certificate.

Albert Robert & Florence M. Pask née Baker

Through Genes Reunited, we connected with Linda Clifford who is researching her husband's family. Linda wrote:

"Albert Pask was my husband's Uncle Albie. Descended from the Baker line- Florrie was my husband's father's youngest sister. ... They lived in Riddlesworth near Garboldisham. They didn't have any children."

We have determined that Albie was Albert Robert Pask who was born on 15 July 1911 in the Thetford registration district. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Pask née Ford. Albert married Florence M. Baker in 1937 in the Thetford registration district. Albert's death was registered in September 1985 in the Bury St. Edmunds registration district at the age of 74.

Albert was the 2nd great-grandson of Thomas Paske. Thomas was born in 1777 in Brockley, Suffolk. He married Frances Farrow on 26 August 1803 in Lawshall, Suffolk.

This information will be included in the next website update.
