Website Update 16 August 2020

124 new narratives have been added, and 123 changed, since the last website update on 24 May. There are now a total of 13,224 detailed narratives available on the website and 21,000 people (154 new) in our database.

This update again was mainly focused on the descendants of William MOULDS, (c1710-1774), Stuart's 5th great-grandfather, who lived in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire. This covers the states of Iowa, Missouri, and Oklahoma. This is still work-in-progress.

Website Update 3 June 2016

During May, there has been a significant flurry of activity, which involved following up on a close match in Stuart's Autosomal (Family Finder) DNA Kit. This resulted in a wealth of new information, a trip to Lincolnshire Archives, and visits to the churches of Great Ponton, and Hough-on-the-Hill in Lincolnshire.

DNA Test Results

We were contacted by John Leadbeater - his father had a match with Stuart's DNA results, indicating he was a 2nd-3rd cousin. John believes it is through the Grococks, from Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire. Stuart's 3rd great-grandmother was Ann Grocock. Very little was known about her - we had last updated her information on 31 December 2006. With today's wealth of internet resources, we were able to find her three children, and trace her back a further two generations to Samuel & Dorothy Grocock née Barns who married on 11 April 1731 in St. Giles' Church, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire.

LCC Wills

Along the way, we discovered there were several GROCOCK wills in the Lincolnshire Archives, so we made a visit there to photograph the wills. We have created a photograph album in Google, if you would like to see the images of three wills of her mother Alice Grocock née Dant; her father Philip Grocock, and her brother Samuel Grocock.

Ann Grocock married William Moulds on 29 December 1800 in All Saints' Church, Hough-on-the-Hill, Lincolnshire. As we were in Lincolnshire, we visited this beautiful church, and Stuart took several photographs. These are included in the photograph album All Saints Church, Hough-on-the-Hill.

William and Ann lived in Great Ponton. In early April, Stuart visited Great Ponton church, and photographed the church - see the photograph album Church of The Holy Cross, Great Ponton Church, and Churchyard. In Great Ponton's churchyard Stuart found a couple of graves which we were unable to identify.

Descendants of Joseph and Sarah Moulds Family Tree

Subsequently, in our endeavours to find who they were (we have still not found them), we searched Ancestry Public Family Trees and found the tree of Descendants of Joseph and Sarah Moulds compiled by Andrew Buchanan-Smith. Wow! What a wealth of information. Joseph & Sarah Moulds née Smith, were Stuart's 4th great-grandparents. Their grand-daughter, Sarah Moulds married Thomas Pask.

Based on the information kindly provided by Andrew, it has enabled us to build a significant tree of the descendants of William Moulds, (c1710-1774), Stuart's 5th great-grandfather. Wherever possible, we have tried to collaborate Andrew's research. Fortunately, the website Find my Past, now has a lot of the original images of Lincolnshire Parish Registers 1538-1911, and we have included the baptisms, marriages, and burials images.

Also, earlier this year, we took out membership for the British Newspaper Archive. We therefore have included the Death Notices, wherever possible, and in some instances inquest reports.   

Suffolk Marriages

Finally, in this website update, there are several Suffolk marriages included, as detailed in the previous blog, Suffolk Marriages More Updates. 

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated on February 14, all over the world. The day is an occasion in which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, and sending greeting cards. 

Yesterday, we received a list of people who undoubtedly expressed their love for each other. Sam Hammond provided us with a list of 31 Suffolk marriages from Boyd's Marriage Index, ranging from 1653 to 1750. 

Today, we will be including these in our database, together with the 100 Suffolk marriages mentioned in the previous blog Suffolk Baptisms and Marriages.

Greater London Burial Index

Last Friday, Find My Past included in their records The Greater London Burial Index. 

The Greater London Burial Index is a collection of:

• Middlesex Burials 1538-1992

We found, and compiled a spreadsheet of :

Tendring Registration District Marriages

This information relates to:

We have just received three marriage transcripts, provided by Marion Hopkins, as part of the Tendring Registration District Marriage Challenge.

The Marriage Challenge is a Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Project in which volunteers (Challengers) search for marriage entries in the deposited Parish Registers for a particular Registration District normally for the period 1837 to 1911. However in this case, Tendring RD was abolished after quarter 2 in 1939. So Marion took her searches up to 1939.
Marion has kindly provided the following marriages:

• Alfred Elisha Parsk and Emma Cocks.  Their marriage transcript shows they married on 7 October 1905 at St Nicholas, Harwich. He was a Bachelor aged 32, a Painter residing at 18 Fernlea Road Harwich. His father was listed as James Parsk, a Retired Gamekeeper. Emma was a Spinster aged 33, a Dressmaker residing at 43 Haydon Park Road Wimbledon. Her father was listed as Walter James Cocks, a Traveller. Alfred, also known as Alfred Elisha Pasque, was a descendant of Chart 06: Unknown Pask lived in Kedington, Suffolk.
• Emma Pask and Willie Ware.  Their marriage transcript shows they married on 30 April 1921 at Frating. She was a Spinster, aged 40 residing in Frating. Her father was listed as George Pask, a Farm Labourer. He was a Widower aged 50, a Farm Labourer residing in Frating. His father was listed as John Ware, a Farm Labourer. The marriage was witnessed by Martha Almond, and Percy R. Almond. Emma was also a descendant of Chart 06: Unknown Pask lived in Kedington, Suffolk.
• Ernest Arthur Paske and Hilda Maria Winney. Their marriage transcript shows they married on 30 April 1930 at St. Lawrence Church, Bradfield. He was a Bachelor aged 27, a Footman residing in St Mary's Bury St Edmunds. His father was listed as Ernest George Paske (Deceased), a Stableman. She was a Spinster aged 32, residing in Bradfield. Her father was listed as William Winney, a Roadman. The marriage was witnssed by John Frederick Burrell (his brother-in-law) and W. WINNEY (probably the bride's father). Ernest is a descendant of Chart 02-1 John PASK, eldest son of Suffolk Main Progenitor - John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow #3372.

Descendants of Walter Claud & Maisie Pask née Dennis

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk. In particular descendants of Daniel Pask (1711-1763) their second son.

A few days ago we received an e-mail from Aaron Pask, the grandson of Walter Claud & Maisie Pask née Dennis. He has kindly provided information on his wife and their three children.

Chart 13 Combined with Chart 02-2

This information relates to the descendants of James Pask (1818-1882) who lived in Shoreditch, London.

We have now established that James Pask married Caroline Panting in 1840. However in 1842 he was living with Mary Ann Reynolds,  and they had six children. They married in 1852 (perhaps after Caroline's death).

In the census of 30 March 1851, the family were living at 6 Trafalgar Street, Bethnal Green, London. James was a Coffee Roaster. For some time, together with Gary Pask, we have been trying to identify where James originated from. Last week there was a major breakthrough. 

We have over the years compiled a list of all PASK(E)s in the probate indexes, and purchased several wills. I was working on another family and searched to see whether a will was probated in 1863. I did not find anything for that family, but I did find:

Letters of Administration (with the Will annexed) of the Personal estate and effects of James Pask otherwise Paske late of Bury St. Edmunds in the County of Suffolk Leather Cutter deceased who died 3 October 1831 at Bury St. Edmunds aforesaid left unadministered by Samuel Adams and Joseph Paske the Son two of the Executors named in the said Will were granted at the Principal Registry to James Pask of 6 Trafalger-street Church-street Bethnal Green in the County of Middlesex Coffee Roaster the Grandson a Legatee substituted in the said Will he having been first sworn. Former Grant Prerogative Court of Canterbury February 1832. Effects under £200. (See attached)

The will of James Pask is very difficult to read. In the will it mentions his wife Deborah, sons Joseph and James, and his daughter Mary Dorling, wife of John Dorling. Also mentioned was Richard Batchelor, son of my wife Sarah Batchelor, daughter of my wife (children of my wife by her former husband). He appointed as executors Samuel Adams, Joseph Pask (son), and Nathaniel Kevan.

In a marginal note (on the fourth page) it reads:

On 11th June 1863 Admon with the Will amended of the personal estate and effects of James Pask otherwise Paske late of Bury St. Edmunds in the County of Suffolk Leather Cutter who died 13 October 1831 at Bury St. Edmunds aforesaid left unadministered by Samuel Adams deceased whilst .... one of the Executors and Joseph PASKE ... whilst living the Son of the other of the Executors ... the Residuary Legatee named in the said Will was granted to James Pask one of the natural and lawful children of James Pask deceased whilst living the Son also of the said deceased and as such having attained the age of 21 years a Legatic substituted in the said Will be having been first sworn. Nathaniel Kevan the other Executor named in the said Will having died 4 January 1862 without having proved the same the said Joseph Paske having survived the said Samuel Adams and died intestate Deborah Paske widow the relict the ... in life named in the said Will being dead and Emily Catherine Cutting (wife of John Cutting) the ... and the sole person entitled to the ... .. estate and affects of the said John Paske deceased (who died a Widower being ... the Letters of Administration (with the said Will amended) of the unadministered personal estate and effects of the said deceased.

Originally we did not James having a second son called James  – clearly when his father James made the will in 1832, James the son was under the age of 21. He was probably the son of James & Deborah Paske née ?, who married in 1814.  

James, and his descendants are now assigned to Chart 02-2. In the next website update further adjustments will be made, and Chart 13 will be deleted.

There are 73 new narratives added since the last update on 1 May. This makes a total of 9,499 detailed narratives now available on the website  - although there was an increase of 127 people, making a total of 15,145 people in our database, including living people.

Risbridge Marriage Transcripts

In July 2011 we received 65 marriage transcripts for the Risbridge Registration District. They were as a result of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Marriage Challenge. The Marriage Challenge is a Guild Project in which volunteers (Challengers) search for marriage entries in the deposited Parish Registers for a particular Registration District (RD) for the period 1837 to 1911.

For Risbridge Marriage Registration District, the challenger was Sandra Stevens. We are indebted to her for these marriage transcripts as they help considerably in linking families together.

Unfortunately, due to other committments, it has taken some time to include the information into the Pask database. However we are pleased to say that this last weekend we finally finished including the information gleaned from the transcripts.

The marriages mainly relate to:

Chart 6 - Descendants of "Unknown" Pask who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

Chart 2 - Descendants of John and Mirabel Pask née Sparrow

The marriages took place mainly in Kedington, and Wickhambrook. However, there are also marriages from
Great Bradley, Great Wratting, Haverhill, Stoke by Clare, and Sturmer (Essex).

9,000+ Narratives Now Available - Website Update 23 October 2011

The website was updated yesterday Sunday 23 October 2011, and a new milestone of 9,000+ narratives are now available.

In addition, a new chart has been created - see blog titled Descendants of Daniel and Sarah Paske née Kendall.

Website Update 2 October 2011

The website was updated yesterday Sunday 2 October 2011.

As a result of DNA tests (see blog New DNA Test Results), two charts have been combined.

William Paske was married Ann Elmer on 27 December 1814 in St. Mary's, Bury St. Edmunds. He was a Boot Maker. The family moved to London. This is only a very small chart, and hopefully in the future, we can link him to John & Mirabel Sparrow. Many thanks to Rod Kerr for his information on this family.

Descendants of Thomas & Sophia Pask née Willis

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

 Colin Hart, a long standing Pask researcher, contacted us in May, and provided several photographs of the family of Thomas & Sophia Pask née Willis. These are now included in an electronic photograph album.
