Monmouthshire Pasks - Holcomb Connection

Yesterday, through Genes Reunited, I connected with Ronald Elsey who was researching Charlotte Pask born c1829 in Monmouthshire. I advised him that although there was very little information on Charlotte, that she may be the person he was looking for.

All I knew was that in the 1841 census she was listed as aged 10, in the household of Margaret Powell [possibly her grandmother], at Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

Ron responded and provided some information on Charlotte. Ron wrote:

Charlotte Pask c.1829-1902 Newchurch, Monmouthshire married John Holcomb 1822-1887 Charlwood, Surrey (son of Francis Holcomb 1778-1850 and Ann Mitchell b.1778). Their children were:
  • Louisa 1850 Newchurch, Monmouthshire
  • Mary 1852 Itton, Monmouthshire
  • John 1859
  • Henry 1863
  • Agnes 1867
  • Alice 1871
  • all of Llangybi (Llangibbi), Monmouthshire.
Based on this information, I searched in the GRO marriage Indexes for Charlotte's marriage. I found:
1848/Q2 Pask, Charlotte Chepstow 26 65
1848/Q2 Holecombe, John Chepstow 26 65
Interestingly, listed on the same page was Timothy Pask who married Mary Ann Rees. Pat Maybrey, who is also researching this family, advised that Timothy & Mary Ann married on 23 March 1848 in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire. As their marriage is on the same page, Charlotte and John were probably married on the same day. It is fair to assume that Timothy and Charlotte are probably siblings. Based on this assumption, Charlotte is the daughter of James & Ann Pask née Morgan. Unfortunately without purchasing Charlotte's marriage certificate I cannot prove this.

I have found Charlotte and John listed in the 1851-1881 census. In the 1891 & 1901 census Charlotte is listed as a widow, living with her daughter Agnes. All the census detail verify the information kindly provided by Ron.
