Lilian Pask née Johnson (1918-2007)

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

Sadly yesterday we attended the funeral of Stuart's sister-in-law, Lilian Pask née Johnson at St. John's Church, Nottingham Road, Trowell Road, Nottingham.

Lilian was born on 11 June 1912 in Derby, Derbyshire. She died on 13 March 2007 at the Beeston Lodge Nursing Home in Nottingham. Lilian married Harold Joseph Pask, son of Frederick Harold & Frances Alice Pask née Wright, on 20 June 1936 in St. Thomas, Derby, Derbyshire.

Her husband Harold, died on 7 April 1985, at the age of 75. Lilian and Harold are now finally together again.

Harold & Lilian had three children, 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Lilian was a wonderful, kind person who dedicated her whole life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. It was a pleasure and privilege to know her.

George & Mary Pask née Fitzjohn

This information relates to Chart 17, a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Cambridgeshire.

Nick Pask wrote to us yesterday relating to his ancestor George Pask who was baptised in 1818 in Thorney, Cambridgeshire. George's descendants are detailed in the chart George Pask, (1817 - 1904) Thorney, Cambridgeshire, lived in Eye, Northamptonshire #2912.

Nick originally wrote to us 2004, he is still pursuing his research on a possible link between George and John & Mary Pask née Hilton. I am sure he will be delighted if anyone can provide any supporting information.

Pasks of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire

There has been an absence of entries in the blog over the past week as I have been working on a draft of a publication The Pasks of Lincolnshire. The publication is part of the preparations for the Pask Family Gathering on July 26, 2008.

Currently my focus is working on the format, and style of the publication. This will be used as the basis for all publications in the series. We are trying to minimize the effort by using the information stored in the database. This has been challenging, however we are almost there. As we are most familiar with Stuart's direct ancestors and their related families we have chosen the Pasks of Great Gonerby to be the "guinea pigs". This will then be a chapter in The Pasks of Lincolnshire.

During this process we have identified a lot of missing gaps in the information. So you expect a significant update on the Great Gonerby Pasks in the next website update.

More information on the pending publications, will follow in the near future.

Bernard William & Gwendoline Grace Pask née Sheehan

Today I received an interesting e-mail from Helen Bass née Pask, who lives in Brisbane, Australia. Her parents were Bernard William & Gwendoline Grace Pask née Sheehan who died in 1994, and have a memorial in Lilydale Lawn Cemetery, Melbourne.

Helen writes:

I don't have much information about the family tree, but am now wanting to discover as much as I can ! I do remember hearing the name Lambert Pask, many years ago but do not know how, or if he is related to me.

The Lambert Pask she refers to may possibly be a Lambert who married Charlotte Walsher on 4 June 1854 in Lambeth, London. Lambert and Charlotte immigrated to Australia as assisted passage on the ship "Agra", arriving in December 1854.

Charles & Elizabeth Williamson née Pask

This information relates to a Lincolnshire family who lived in Spilsby, currently unconnected to a main branch.

During my research into the Spilsby families, I found the marriage on 14 May 1840 of Elizabeth Pask and Charles Williamson. I subsequently located them in the 1841-1881 census.

Elizabeth was born in 1814 in Tattershall, or Ruskington [1851 Census]. Charles was born in 1813 in Teigh, Rutland, and his mother was possibly Mary Williamson, a Nurse. I have not currently able to trace Elizabeth's parents.

Charles & Elizabeth had six children, all born in Sleaford:

1. George Williamson b. 1844
2. Mary Williamson b. 1847
3. Jane Williamson b. 1849
4. Ann Williamson b. Apr 1850
5. Betsey Williamson b. 1853
6. Charles Williamson b. 1855

Charles & Elizabeth lived all their lives in Sleaford, and Charles died in 1885, and Elizabeth in 1888.

Pasks of Sleaford

This information relates to a Lincolnshire family, currently unconnected to a main branch.

Heidi Ann Girton contacted me last week relating to her 3 x great grandmother Mary Anne Pask, who was christened on 29 August 1791 in New Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

Heidi writes:

Mary Ann married William Hubbard, Sr. in 1815 in New Sleaford. They had 10 children all christened in Walcot near Folkingham. William and Mary Ann immigrated to Wisconsin in Sep 1851 along with many of their children. Their daughter (my GG-Grandmother) Mary Hubbard had married John Firton and they were on the same ship to America with their two children. The Girton family settled in Michigan where his brothers resided. I believe Mary Anne’s father was Jonas Pask, christened 22 Jul 1759 in Heydour and her mother’s name was Ann. The Jonas name is passed down the family. From the IGI, Jonas’s parents may have been John and Anne Paske.

Today I researched this family in the Sleaford area. From the Sleaford parish registers (we transcribed the Pask entries in the early 1980s), we found three other children of Jonas & Ann Pask. Unfortunately they died in infancy. I have now included in the database all the Sleaford parish records that we transcribed, and also those found in the National Burial Index. These will be available on the website in the next update.

Henry & Mary Ann Pask née Palmer - Death Certificates

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

As mentioned in the previous blog Henry & Mary Ann Pask née Palmer, I wrote to Pat Taylor, and she has kindly provided the death certificates for Henry Pask who died on 8 September 1912, and Mary Ann Pask née Palmer, who died 18 September 1886.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

This information relates to the blue-icon tree - descendants of Johannis [John] & Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Patricia Chown, from Hawaii, wrote to me today and earlier in the week. She has provided numerous snippets of information on her Lincolnshire Pasks, including this account from the Lincolnshire Chronicle:

In a quiet but happy manner, Mr and Mrs Edward Pask, of the "Ten Row", Nocton recently celebrated their golden wedding and they were the recipients of many congratulatory expressions. It was on Thursday, January 19th, l865, that Edward Pask, aged 27, son of Mr Pask of Nocton, was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Eliza Semper, aged 23, daughter of Mr Semper of Dunston (late of Holland Fen); the little sacrament being performed in the sacred precincts of Dunston Parish Church. In a close and loving union, Mr and Mrs Pask have, for half a century, threaded life's many and devious pathways; and are now decidedly "not out." They are well-known and highly respected in the district, where they have resided for 49 years; only staying at Dunston about 12 months after they were married.When our photographer-reporter called at the house a few days ago, they, were enjoying a little fireside chat with their daughter, who sees after their welfare; Optimistic; contented, modest, they abhor anything in the nature of what they call "a fuss," and it was only after much persuasion that they consented to sit for their photographs. As will be seen, they are hale and hearty, and but for a twinge of rheumatism now and again, Mr Pask tells us he would be in the pink; while his wife is also well able to get about, but she also suffers somewhat from shortness of breath. They are regular attenders at the Parish Church, which they have belonged during their whole sojourn in the village; and they are also frequently seen at the various gatherings, Mr Pask, as a member of the Dunston Oddfellows, which he has been associated with for a great number of years. At one time he was a bell-ringer at the church, and was also in the choir; and in both connections he made numbers of friends, being always popular wherever he went. Mr and Mrs Pask have six children - four girls and two boys and they are all married except one daughter. There are about 20 grandchildren.

Pask Burials in Sleaford, Lincolnshire

Shelley Clack contacted me today. I mentioned Shelly in the previous blog Pask Burials in Nocton, Lincolnshire.

Shelly said that she had been at Sleaford cemetery today and found the following Pasks:

Pask, Maud; d. 5 Jun 1966, age 74 yrs, W/o and s/w Geoge Pask

Inside St Denys Church, Sleaford, are three war memorials with Pask names:

Jan 1915 Roll of honour memorial - J Pask 1914-1919
Sleaford Company church Lads Brigade memorial (in transept) - J M Pask 1914 - 1919 Great War memorial (in nave) - J M Paske

On CWGC is a James Melbourne Pask who was a private in the Lincolnshire regiment. He died 13 Oct 1915. The site says his parents were Mr J F and Mrs E Pask of Holdingham, Sleaford. I believe this is the person named in St Denys church. It is likely
the above are all the same person, other names appear on more than one of the memorials and in some instances spellings have changed.

Henry & Mary Ann Pask née Palmer

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

In response to the previous blog Eunice Grace Pask continued, Pat Taylor from Australia, contacted me. She writes:

Eunice Grace Pask, who is my first cousin, once removed, and it was with her father, George Pask, that my great grandfather, and her grandfather, Henry Pask, spent his last days in Willesden. I have obtained a copy of Henry Pask’s death certificate, which shows him dying of bronchitis in the Workhouse Infirmary, Acton Lane, Willesden age 88.

I have also purchased a copy of the death certificate of his wife, Mary Ann Pask née Palmer, who died of gastro-intestinal catarrh 3 days and collapse. Mary Ann Pask died at home at 30 Tower Road, Newington aged 61, and her death was witnessed by her daughter Emily Canning née Pask, my great aunt.

I have asked Pat whether she can provide an electronic copy of these certificates. This information will be included in the next website update. Many thanks for Pat for providing this information.

Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost , born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

Over the weekend I have been working on the information that Julian Bennet provided (as detailed in the previous blog titled Eunice Grace Pask continued). I came across some intriguing information relating to Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw:

In the census of 5 April 1891 they were enumerated at 34 Warrior Road, Lambeth. Henry was listed as aged 36 born in Newington, the Head of Household; a Cabinet Maker living with his wife Mary, daughter Elsie L. M., son Arthur G. J., and an elderly aunt Harriet Mitchell, a widow, a retired Chair Caner aged 69, born in Southwark.

I knew, from our previous research done in 2004-5, together with Pat (Margaret) Taylor, and Peter Talbot-Ashby, Henry and Mary had 14 children, although only 7 survived to maturity. Based on this information I knew they had another three children in the period 1891-1901. I then searched, and searched in the 1901 census. I tried all types of combinations, to no avail. I then focused on the daughter Mercy Mary Pask, who was born in 1900. I found her, and the family:

RG13; Piece: 549; Folio: 115; Page: 54.
12 Ladywell Park, Lewisham, a Cabinet Maker, living with his wife Mary, and children Arthur G. J., Grace M., Ada M., and Mercy M. Enumerated under the name of Leonard H. Shaw.

Obviously, they had taken Mary's maiden name. However why Henry called himself Leonard is not sure. Although Pat had previously said that he was a Shakespearian actor, so perhaps he changed his name for this purpose. All the children were registered under the name of Pask. All other details except the surname were correct.

Sidney George Pask (1920-1990)

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Suffolk. The earliest known progenitor is Henry & Frances Pask née Wallaker, who lived in Kedington, Suffolk in the 1790s.

Whilst searching in www.ancestry.co.uk, I found two Pask photographs, in the Public Member Photos database.

• Thomas Henry Pask (1820 - ) taken c1850, (see blog titled Descendants of Thomas & Hannah Pask née Parish)
• Headstone of Sidney George Pask (1920-1990) in
  Balsham Church, Cambridgeshire.

Sidney George Pask, was previously not listed in the database (only approximately 60% of our records have been currently included). However during the weekend I have researched his family, and ancestors. I have linked him back five generations to Henry & Frances Pask née Wallaker of Kedington, Suffolk.

1. Parents: George & Elizabeth H. Pask née Butler, they had 7 children
2. Grandparents: Elijah & Olga Pask née Basham, they had 10 children
3. Great-grandparents: George & Ann Paske née Boreham, they had 11 children
4. Great-great-grandparents: Henry & Mary Pask née Mison, they had 9 children
5. Great-great-great-grandparents: Henry & Frances Pask née Wallaker, also had 9 children

This information will be included in the database in the near future. However it may be sometime, as not all the children are listed, and fully researched.

Eunice Grace Pask continued

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost , born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

In August 2006, Julian Bennet from Devon, contacted me about his grandmother. See the previous blog titled Eunice Grace Pask.

Subsequently, whilst in the process of including this information, I realised that Eunice's marriage in the GRO Index, was not indexed under the name of Pask. I searched for John (who was indexed as John E. P. Bennet), and found Eunice was listed under Park. So two errors relating to this marriage!

Amongst the e-mails exchanged, Julian asked:

Is there a link between the famous jockey Frederick Archer. He [Julian's father] tells me that family talk was always that there was a link between the Pask family and Frederick Archer but we have never been able to substantiate this. I believe that Frederick had a troubled life and killed himself at an early age.

The connection may well be through Eunice's mother Jane Pask née Archer.

I am in the process of adding the information from the gedcom that Julian has provided.

Pask, Paske Family Gathering - July 2008

Today Jo Pask from Suffolk, Stuart, and myself will have our first planning meeting on the Pask, Paske Family Gathering that will be held on July 26, 2008 in Suffolk.

Keep this date free in your diary. All people interested, or related to the Pask, Paske, Pasque families and derivatives of the name are invited, whether they are interested in family history or not.

Sampler on ebay

A sampler has appeared on www.ebay.co.uk that was created by Sarah Pask aged 12, and dated 1894.

My passion, after family history, is cross-stitch. I have several family photographs that I have converted to cross-stitch.

Therefore I am bidding for this sampler, to try and keep it in the Pask family. If you think this is one of your family I would be more than happy to let you bid for it. However please do not start bidding against me, or we could see the price rocket!
