Amos Pask (1862 - 1937)

This information relates to Chart 15 , the descendants of Isaac Paske, (c1800 - ) who lived in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

We received an inquiry on the family of Amos Pask. Amanda Haslam née Jenkins wrote to us today:

My grandfathers grandfather was a Amos Pask born 1862, I have no details of where, but died 28.1.1937, at Risca, which I believe is in south Wales. He married Ann Evans (1868-1953) in 1894 at Newport. They had seven children, Olive, Phyllis(my great Grandmother), Beryl, Idris, Kenneth, Myfanwy and Eileen.

Surprisingly, last week Idris was detailed in the blog Idris Evans & Sarah Elsie N. Pask née Talbot.

The information that Amanda has provided is slightly different to the information we currently have. So this needs further investigation. We love a challenge!

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed. A full list of these recent changes to the narratives is available in the New or Changed Narratives section. The narratives section now includes 6284 people. This was another large update - an increase of 65 persons, although many more are "living" people, and therefore their narratives are not included.

John Edward Pask (1873-1916)

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

Last April, we reported in several blogs information on John Edward Pask who was listed on Tibshelf war memorial. In the blog John Edward Pask (1873 - 1916) Obituary, it mentions that his widow was left with four young children.

When recently compiling the first draft of a section of the publication Pasks of Lincolnshire - Pasks of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire, we were very disappointed that we had still not identified John's four children. Fortunately our wishes have been answered.

During the past two weeks' we have been corresponding with David Stell who has provided a wealth of information.

John was previously married to Elizabeth Ann Magee, who sadly died in child birth in Hong Kong, where John was serving. They had four children:

1. John Richard Pask
2. Eileen Pask, born in Northern Ireland
3. Charles Edward Pask, born in Hong Kong
4. George Pask b. 8 Jun 1912, d. 10 Jun 1912 in Hong Kong

John had another son, Philip Gordon Lydd Pask, by Lizzie L. Tompkins. The overseas births explains why I was not able to locate these children in our transcription of the GRO Births.

Sadly, if we had known this information earlier this year, when we were in Hong Kong, we would have visited Elizabeth & George's grave.

I have now been able to trace most of the descendants of John Edward Pask. Many thanks to David for his valuable information which will be included in the next website update.

Descendants of Alfred Harry & Annie Pask née Thomas

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

As a follow on to the recent blog titled Alfred Harry & Hazel Pask née Ulph. I contacted Edwin Prockter, who has extensively researched this family.

Alfred was born on 4 September 1906. His parents were Alfred Harry Snr & Annie Pask née Thomas. Whilst searching the births I realised that several other births had the mother's maiden name of Thomas. I wrote to Edwin as I felt sure he would be able to help me. He wrote back:

Edith Rosetta May, was the eldest; Millicent Annie Kathleen;
Alfred Harry Jnr; Hilda Vera, my mother; Evelyn Blanche
Frederick Reginald; Royston; Winnie Doreen; Herbert T; Robert Winston; Iris Freda - Six girls and four boys.
There is a very interesting but tragic history to this family, Annie the mother dropped dead on 5th Noverber 1917 at their house in Grapes Hill, Norwich, while father at Colchester with the Army. The family were largely cared for by Edith the eldest child, but my mother was taken by her Aunt to the home of a Lady, and spent a few years there.

I am indebted to Edwin for this additional information. I have included this into the database and it will be available in the next website update.

Rosetta Stokes née Pask

This information relates to the red-icon tree - descendants of Isaac PASK who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Staying with the Monmouthshire area, Colleen Willis wrote to me a few days ago and provided a contact for Rosetta Pask, who married William Stokes on 26 May 1883, as listed in the previous blog Australian Pasks.

I wrote to Robyn Keane, and together with her I have established that Rosetta was born in 1859 in Newport, Monmouthshire. She was the daughter of Zaccheus & Mary Anne Pask née Edwards. Rosetta was listed in the 1881 census in St. Wollos, Monmouth, living together with her stepfather William Downs, and her mother. Rosetta immigrated to Australia between 1881 and 1883.

Idris Evans & Sarah Elsie N. Pask née Talbot

This information relates to Chart 15 , the descendants of Isaac Paske, (c1800 - ) who lived in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire.

Martin Thompson wrote to us last week requesting information on:

County Councillor I PASKE is listed as a nephew at the funeral of Frederick TALBOT in Abertillery in 1952, according to a newspaper report.

Idris Evans Pask was born on 8 November 1900 in Kilgwrrwg, Monmouthshire. He was the son of Amos & Annie Abigail Pask née Morgan. He married Sarah Elsie N. Talbot in 1925, and they had two children Lilian M., and Margaret M.

Descendants of William & Jane Pask née Harry

This information relates to the red-icon tree - descendants of Isaac PASK who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Yesterday I was in contact with Patricia Maybrey [Vizor], via Genes Reunited, who is researching the descendants of William & Jane Pask née Harry. We have been in contact with Pat for several years. I am currently cross checking her tree against our database.

I have already found a missing maiden name that helped me identify the marriage in 1873/Q1 of William & Elizabeth Ann Pask née Roberts. In the GRO indexes is was listed as William Park.

Additionally Patricia has detailed a link between Chart 12 and Chart 15. I need to do some more cross checking to establish the link.

Alfred Harry & Hazel Pask née Ulph

This information relates to the khaki-icon tree - descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

A couple of weeks' ago I wrote to Colin Ulph. I recently met Colin at the Guild of One-Name Studies Bletchley conference. He is researching the Ulph surname.

I had determined that Hazel Ulph had married Alfred Harry Pask. Colin confirmed this and provided some additional information on this couple and their family.

Hazel married Alfred H. Pask, known as 'Sonny', on 1 November 1927 at the registry office at Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich. They had five children - Evelyn, John, David, Gillian and Peter ... Sonny died in April 1997 after they had been married for nearly 70 years. Hazel died on 28 May 2005 in Norwich hospital, in her 97th year.

What a remarkable couple!

Alfred was born on 4 September 1906, and registered in the Mutford registration district in Suffolk. However they lived in Norwich. I believe his parents are likely to be Alfred Harry & Annie Pask née Thomas, who finally settled in Norwich, where Alfred was a Tailor. They are descendants of Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

Will of Thomas Charles Pask

This information relates to Chart 14, the descendants of William Pask (1791-84) who lived in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

Paula Payne wrote to me yesterday and advised that Cheshire County Council now have a Wills Database Online, also Wiltshire & Swindon Archives.

The Cheshire search found Thomas Charles Pask of Hoylake, a Chemist who died in 1921. He was the son of Thomas & Sarah Pask née Partington, who orginated from Lincolnshire. He married Isabella Graham in 1885 in the Hoylake registration district. Isabella died in 1912.

Make Hay While the Sun Shines

This is totally unrelated to family history, except to explain why the blog has been quiet over the past two weeks. We have been focusing on the garden. The weather in England has been glorious for the whole of April, and as the saying goes "Make hay while the sun shines".

Stuart has been busy making a decking to cover our rather shabby 15-year old patio. As you will see from the photographs below.

Descendants of Bernard & Helen Pask née Wallace

This information relates to Chart 34, the descendants of Philip & Pheobe Pask née Lewis who lived in Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire.

Milton Pask wrote to us from Sundre, Alberta, Canada. His grandfather was Bernard W. Pask who was born in 1885 in Walthamstow, Essex. However, Bernard's ancestors originated from Monmouthshire.

Bernard immigrated to Canada in 1905 on the ship Dominion. He married Helen Wallace in 1920 and they had five children.

Helen was born in 1891 in the village of Mauchlin, Ayrshire, Scotland. She was the youngest daughter of William Wallace and Helen Shaw Taylor. Her father died in 1915 and she decided to go to Canada.

Milton has kindly provided valuable information of all Bernard & Helen's five children, and their children, with their most up-to-date families.

Edward & Eliza Pask née Bradshaw - Photographs

This information relates to Chart 11, a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Lincolnshire.
Over the past two days I have been including photographs kindly provided some time ago by Fred L. Taylor. These mainly relate to the family of Edward & Eliza Pask née Bradshaw, who originated from Timberland, and lived in Bardney. The photographs included in the blog are Fred's grandparents Edward Pask, and Fanny Maria Pask née Ardron.
It was the intention to include all the photographs in an online album when time permits. Unfortunately I am technically challenged and need more time to set this up. In the meantime, the photographs are now included in the sources, and as primary images against the individual narratives. These will be available in the next website update.

It is always so good to have a photograph with the narratives, so I am indebted to Fred for sharing his enviable collection.

Pasks of Victoria, Australia

Colleen Willis has provided more information on Victoria, Australia records that have PASK listed in their indexes:

Pasks of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire

This information relates to the black-icon tree - descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock.

Over the Easter weekend I have finished the first draft of a section of the publication Pasks of Lincolnshire - the Pasks of Great Gonerby. It is 70 pages, and contains 358 descendants of John & Alice Pask née Woodcock - Chart 1 on the website.

Stuart's job is now to provide relevant photographs. I am going to the Guild of One-Name Studies AGM and weekend conference this coming weekend. I needed to provide the draft so that my friend Jan could provide her feedback. We are both doing publications and sharing ideas.

Pasques of Cumbria continued

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Nathan Pasque wrote again yesterday, as a follow-on from the previous blog Pasques of Cumbria. Nathan has kindly provided some photographs of two graves in St. Michael's Church in Lowther, Cumbria.

The first monumental inscriptions reads:

Freda Pasque died 16th June 1936 aged 19 years and of her sister Nada Lily Yates died 7th December 1991 aged 77 years beloved wife of Ernest John died 18th July 1995 aged 78 years At Rest

From the GRO death indexes I found that Nada was born on 7 May 1914. I have not yet located her marriage to Ernest John Yates, who was born on 9 November 1916.

The other monumental inscription reads:

In loving memory of Lily Jane Pasque died 9th March 1961 aged 76 years and of her husband Frederick James died 15th December 1961 aged 77 years At Rest.

John & Elizabeth Pask née White continued

This information relates to a Gloucestershire family, currently unconnected to a main branch.

As detailed in the previous blog John & Elizabeth Pask née White - Gloucestershire, Bob Shewman wrote from Ontario Canada regarding this family that originated from Cheltenham.

The information provided by Bob has now been included in the database, and includes that John Pask was born in 1834 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He was a Bootmaker. He married Elizabeth White, daughter of Thomas Cotton and Priscilla White, on 4 July 1868 in Bretforton, Worcestershire. His father was listed as Philip Pask, a Farmer. However currently I am unable to find Philip.

John & Elizabeth, and their four children Harry George, Tom [or Samuel], Mary, and infant Elizabeth May immigrated to Canada in c1882. John died shortly afterwards when he was killed by a railway train on 27 June 1883 in Trenton, Hastings County, Ontario. Elizabeth then married James Meacham on 16 October 1883.

Bob has also provided extensive information on their four children. This information will be available on the website in the next update.

Pasques of Cumbria

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Nathan Pasque wrote to me in March, and explained:

My granddad was Fredrick Ernest Pasque who lived in Cumbria and worked on Lord Lonsdale's estate as a stable lad and his father was a game keeper.

Nathan provided sufficient information to establish that Frederick was the son of Frederick James S. & Lily Jane Pasque née Munday. Frederick James Spicer Pasque was born in 1884 in Blythburgh, Suffolk. He was the son of George Spicer & Gertrude Pasque née Saunders. George was also a game keeper. This family has been well researched by Herbert Bunt (see previous blog Herbert Bunt - BBC 1 Television Programme), Martin Elmy, and Valerie Francis.

Nathan is the 7 x great-grandson of Thomas Pasque who was the Parish Clerk of Theberton Suffolk.
