Descendants of William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon

This information relates to Chart 46: William Pask (1860-1914) born in Southery Lincolnshire #1470.

Chris Bell wrote to us this evening. She is an ardent researcher, but is still looking for the elusive information on the birth/baptism and marriage of her great-grandparents William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon.

2009 Guild Publication Awards

This year we entered the Pask, Paske blog, and also the publication PASKs of Lincolnshire Volume I - Great Gonerby into the prestigious Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Publication Awards. There were a record number of 106 entries, and the standard was exceptionally high.

We are very proud to announce this blog won 1st prize, and the book was highly commended. Needless to say, we are delighted with the results.

Thank you everyone for your contributions to winning these awards - the success of the Pask One-Name Study depends entirely on your contributions.

Kate Pask née Avery

This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

Today, we had another e-mail from Gordon Beech. This time he provided a delightful photograph of Edith, Maurice, and Kate Avery. Kate later married George Albert Pask, the son of George & Elizabeth Pask née Clark (Stuart's 3 x Great-Grandparents).

Family Gathering in Great Gonerby - August 1981

This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

We received an e-mail from Gordon Beech today. He and his wife Betty have been able to identify some of the people on the back cover of the publication PASKs of Lincolnshire Volume I.

Website Update 12 April 2009

The website was updated yesterday, Sunday 12 April. This was a comparatively small update, and focuses on information, as detailed in the previous blogs:

Descendants of Moses John & Cecilia Pask née Morgan

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

During the Easter we have exchanged information with Leslie Pask, who contacted us initially back in 2003. His grandfather was Amos John & Cecilia Pask née Morgan who lived in Pontypridd, Glamorgan.

Searching through our transcripts of the GRO births, marriages, and deaths we have been able to identify his wife Cecilia, their 8 children, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

These have been included in our database, and will be available in the next website update.

Peter Pask - Waterloo

Recently Stephen Pask of Australia was searching military records in Find My Past. He found a Pask who fought at Waterloo:

Private Peter Pask fought in Captain Wood's Light Infantry unit of the 1st Battalion 4th (King's Own) Regiment. This regiment has some ties to Yorkshire but does not necessarily mean this man came from there.

He was awarded the Waterloo Medal which was awarded to all ranks who fought in the battle.

We searched our records, and found 27 Peter Pasks in the database. However, only 1-2 likely. Based on the battle being on 18 June 1815, it could be:

Peter Pask born 1770 in Stoke by Clare, Suffolk - perhaps too old
Peter Pask born 1803 in Flempton cum Hargrave, Suffolk - probably too young

On the other hand it could be neither. Family stories like this would be passed down through the generations. We are in touch with descendants of both of the above families, and they are ardent researchers. They would be aware of this if it was their Peter Pask.

PASKs of Lincolnshire Volume I Updated

This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

The latest version of Lincolnshire Volume I is now available from the Lulu website. There are many additional pages and photographs. This has increased the cost to £8.00, plus postage.

Lungley-Pask Families Certificates

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

Today we received another package from Sheila Bourne. As mentioned in the previous blog titled Lungley-Pask Families, Sheila is researching the brother and sister Herbert Arthur Pask and Ruth Pask, who married sister and brother Gladys Gertrude Lungley, and Lewis Herbert Lungley.

Sheila has kindly provided a further 19 certificates relating to these two families. These together with the previous certificates will be included in our database in the foreseeable future. We are again indebted to Sheila for sharing this information.

Publishing Your Family History to the Web

Early last year I gave a a half-day tutorial at the Society of Genealogists on Publishing Your Family History to the Web. See blog titled Publishing Your Family History to the Web.

Shortly afterwards I included the PowerPoint presentation on a website that hosts presentations, called www.slideshow.net. It's a free website that enables you to upload and share your PowerPoint presentations and Word documents.

Today they wrote to me and advised:

We've noticed that your slideshow on SlideShare has been getting a LOT of views
in the last 24 hours. Great job ... you must be doing something right. ;-)

Website Update 26 March 2009

The website was updated today, Thursday 26 March. This update focuses on the Lincoln registration district marriages so kindly provided by Marion Harper Hopkins as part of the Guild of One-Name Studies marriage challenge, as detailed in the December blog titled Lincoln Marriages.

All the 55 marriages have now been included in the database. The marriage transcripts from numerous Lincolnshire parish registers are available as downloads in the Sources of Information section of the relevant individual narratives.

We are looking forward to meeting Marion this weekend, as we are attending the Lincolnshire Family History One Day Conference at City School, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln. It has been over 20 years since we attended a Lincolnshire conference, and we look forward to renewing old acquaintances.

Lungley-Pask Families

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

In January Sheila Bourne contacted us. She had seen in the December edition of Suffolk Roots, the article from Jo Pask on the Pask Family Gathering, July 2008. She wrote that her cousins Lewis H. Lungley and his sister Gladys G. Lungley had married a Pask brother and sister:

• Lewis Herbert Lungley married Ruth Pask on 13 July 1940 at Falkenham, Suffolk

  Gladys Gertrude Lungley married Herbert Arthur Pask on 2 August 1941 in Ardleigh, Essex

Ruth and Herbert were the son and daughter of the son of Arthur & Janet Pask née Ramsey.

Today we received a package from Sheila containing 36 certificates relating to these two families. We are delighted, and indebted to Sheila for sharing this information.

Susan Pask born 1820 Llanmartin, Monmouthshire

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Earlier this month Paula Payne, our ardent Monmouthshire researcher wrote to us. Recently she and her brother Peter saw the original Nebo Independant Chapel, Wolvesnewton records and determined that the Pask baptisms were wrongly transcribed.

In particular it was originally believed that Susan was the daughter of Isaac & Mary Pask née Morgan. Paula confirmed that it should read:

Susan the daughter of Isaac Pask and Elizabeth Pask of the Parish of Llanmartin was born in 28th February 1820 and was baptized 29th March 1820 by David Thomas of Nebo Independent Chapel Wolvesnewton.

This has been amended in our database, and be included in the next website update.

John & Mary Hannah Beard née Pask

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Last month we received a letter from Christine A. Paisley, who lives in Albany, West Australia. She writes that her husband's grandmother was Mary Hannah Pask, the daughter of John & Elizabeth Pask née Crockett. Mary was born on 15 February 1885 at Barbadoes Green, Tintern, Monmouthshire.

Christine has provided details that has enabled us to identify John & Mary's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 2 x great-grandchildren. This information will be included in the next website update in Chart 04.

John Joseph Stephen & Julia Wiber née Pask

This information relates to the descendants of the Essex Main Progenitor - John Pask, (1771-1847) who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

Today we received an e-mail from Mandy Bourdon. She writes:

I live in Australia ... my ggg grandmother was a Elizabeth Louisa Wiber daughter of John Joseph Stephen Wiber and Julia Pask but on your website it only states an Emma Wiber.

The reason for only having Emma was because the information came from the passenger list of the "Parsee". If there were other children they must have been born in Australia.

Mandy is going to provide more information. In the meantime, we will include Elizabeth in the next website update.

Toffee Pask (19 July 1994 - 13 March 2009)

Our beloved burmese cat Toffee sadly died yesterday. His real name was Rascal Robbie, and he lived up to his name. We had to include numerous bells on his collar to warn all the local birds, mice, squirrels, and even rats. Nothing was too big for him.

He was always with me whilst I worked on family history. Frequently I had to move him off the mouse mat as he got closer and closer. We will sorely miss him.

New Chart 48 - George & Mary Pask née Fitzjohn

This information relates to Chart 48: George Pask who was born in 1818, and baptised in Thorney Cambridgeshire. He married Mary Fitzjohn in 1840, and they lived in Northamptonshire.

A new chart will be available in the next website update - chart 48. This will group together over 40 people who descend from George & Mary Pask née Fitzjohn who lived in Northamptonshire in the middle of the 19th century.

George was the illegitimate son of Sarah Pask. He was born on 12 July 1817, and baptised on 7 June 1818 in Thorney, Cambridgeshire. It is currently not known where Sarah came from.

Barbara Pask Painting

Recently I was searching the internet for the name Pask, and came across this delightful painting by Barbara Pask.

Being a cat lover, I thought this was an excellent painting and captured the look of a cat.

So I was delighted when she put it up for sale on e-bay. I snapped it up, and will receive it from Ohio in the next couple of days. It will take pride of place in the lounge.

James Pask b1871 Bury St. Edmunds

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

Yesterday we received an e-mail from Geoff & Pam Gough. Fortunately they solved a long outstanding mystery relating to James Pask, the son of John & Susan Pask née Buckle.

We had found James in the 1881 & 1891 censuses, but not in the 1901 census. There was additional confusion as there was two James born in Bury St. Edmunds - James in 1871 and James Henry in 1872.

Fortunately we found him in the 1911 census living in St. Pancras. This in turn, enabled us to locate him in the 1901 census, where he gave his place of birth incorrectly as London. Together with the information provided by Geoff & Pam, we have been able to piece together that he married Katherine Markell in 1893, and they had five children:

1. Lily Florence Pask born 1894
2. Gladys Ethel Pask born 1896
3. Dorothy Maud Pask born 1903 (Pam's grandmother)
4. Ivy Molly Francis Pask born 1907
5. Katie Maria Pask born in 1910

James' siblings have been well researched by Dorothy Pask, and David Hodge.

Geoff & Pam will be providing more information in due course. In the meantime, the next website update will include the basic information on this latest find.
