Isabella Grace Pask née Solomon

As detailed in a previous blog, titled William Pask born c1860, Chris Bell is researching her great-grandparents William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon.

Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon (1863-1939)This weekend Chris sent us a photograph to include on the website. It is a photograph of Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon. Although not dated, was probably circa 1920. Grace at that time emigrated to Canada to live with her son Frank, after the death of her husband William in 1914.

Hopefully someone will recognise it, and provide some assistance to Chris. She is still searching for the birth of William, and his marriage to Grace.

The photograph will be included in the next website update. At the same time, a new family group has been created, and assigned chart #46. Hopefully we can help Chris link her family to one of the main groups.

Phillip Pask of Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Phillip Pask of Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire (1797-1871)

In a previous blog entitled Descendants of John & Mary Elizabeth Gulliver née Pask, we detailed that Les Warren provided us information on his Monmoutshire ancestors, and several photographs. They are included in the book Pasks of Monmouthshire Volume I.

Les has written to us again, and said:

I have just unearthed and attach a photo that I hope you may be interested in. It was in a box that we packed several moves ago and is noted on the back as Phill Pask. The photographer was J Turner of Stafford St, Birmingham.

Les was unable to date the photograph. However, the spelling of Phill caught our eye, as Les' 3 x great-grandfather wrote his name Phillip Pask. We delved deeper and established that Phillip's son George Pask was a Bootmaker in Birmingham. Phillip may have visited him, and had his photograph taken whilst there. Phillip died in 1871. This old photograph could well have been taken just before his death.

What a superb find! This photograph will be available in the next website update, and in the next version of the book.

Welsh Rugby

This information relates to Chart 45: William PASK (1808-1893) born in Nantylgo, Monmouthshire #9973.

As mentioned in the previous blog Chart 45: William PASK of Monmouthshire, we have been exchanging information with David Hopkins through Genes Reunited. He is the grandson of Annie Maria Hopkins née Pask. David's sister Susan is the mother of Michael Owen, the Welsh Rugby Union Player, who made his debut for Saracens yesterday.
Michael Owen, great-grandson of Annie Maria Hopkins née Pask
His profile on Wikipedia gives:

Owen, who is 6'5" and 231 lb (1.96 m, 111 kg), most often plays Number 8, but is also versatile enough to play flanker or even lock. ... Michael Owen became the 1,000th player capped by Wales when he made his debut in the first Test against South Africa in June 2002.

Alun Pask Another famous Welsh number 8 was Alun Pask. Although there is currently no family connection, undoubtedly there will be. There seems to be too much of a coincidence.

Corporal Richard Pask MC

Corporal Richard Thomas Pask of The Royal Welsh

This information relates to a descendant of Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Whilst searching http://www.google.co.uk/ for an image, I came across some information, and a photograph that makes you proud to be a Pask.

In March 2008, Richard Pask of Gwent, was awarded one of the most prestigious military honours for his bravery under fire in Iraq. The Royal Welsh soldier led his six-strong team to safety after their tank was blown up by insurgents in Basra last year.

For more information see the BBC News website, and the South Wales Argus, which includes a video interview with Richard.

Richard's grandparents were Thomas P. & Annie Pask née Meskill of Newport, Monmouthshire. He is the 7 x great-grandson of Isaac Pask.

Congratulations to Richard on his bravery, and courage.

Chart 45: William PASK of Monmouthshire

This information relates to Chart 45: William PASK (1808-1893) born in Nantylgo, Monmouthshire #9973.

David Hopkins contacted us, through Genes Reunited. He is the grandson of Annie Maria Hopkins née Pask, the daughter of Phillip and Gwenllian Pask née Jones.

As this family is currently unconnected to the main Monmouthshire family, a new chart #45 has been created. David's ancestors were William Pask who married Maria Jones on 21 May 1836 in Llanddetty, Breconside. They lived in Cwmcarvan, Trevthin and Aberystruth. They had nine children, although very few survived infancy. Their descendants span four generations.

If you have any further information, do contact us. This information will be included in the next website update.
