Moulds Family of Old Somerby, Lincolnshire

Recent website updates have been mainly focused on the descendants of William MOULDS, (c1710-1774), Stuart's 5th great-grandfather, who lived in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire.

Stuart's 4th great-uncle, married Mary Sharman on 15 May 1813 in St. Mary Magdalene's Church, Somerby. They subsequently had eight children, seven of which were baptised in St. Mary Magdalene's Church in Somerby.

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to visit the church again. We had an extremely enjoyable visit. Fortunately, the church was open and we were able to see the outstanding features, which date back to 1140. See the photograph album at http://photos.app.goo.gl/YDJtegf4RfFU41j27

 

Inside the church was a visitors book, and when scrolling through the pages we noticed that there was a yearly family gathering of the Moulds family. Several had included their names, one in particular, Barbara, had included her email address. Subsequently, during the following week we exchanged emails and have considerably expanded the information on the UK Moulds descendants. Barbara is Stuart's fifth cousin, and extremely interested in family history - so do look on the website, and find the people who lived in Somerby (near Grantham), Lincolnshire.

91 new narratives have been added, and 48 changed, since the last website update on 10 May. There are now a total of 13,120 detailed narratives available on the website and 20,846 people (154 new) in our database.

Descendants of Clarence Chester Pask

Recently independently, by sheer coincidence, we received information from two descendants of Clarence Chester Pask and his wife Daisy Ethel Pask née Sweet (known as Ethel).

In early January, we received an email from Darlene Yarger, about her grandfather Charles Raymond Pask the eldest son of Clarence. Darlene's son Rathe has a detailed tree in Ancestry, which has been of considerable help in putting the pieces together. As we were away on holiday, we did not have time to update the website with this new information. 

Last week, we were working on the website update, when surprisingly more new information came in on this same family.

On February 17, in the Pask Family History Facebook Group, Cindy Moore née Pask, the granddaughter of Clarence, posted this photograph of Clarence, and his family. Cindy's father was Kenneth Clarence Pask, the youngest son of Clarence.

Clarence Chester Pask was born on 16 June 1838 in Anwick, Lincolnshire, England. He was the son of Joseph George PASK. His parents immigrated to Ohio in 1844.

Many thanks to Darlene, and Cindy, for the wealth of information provided. The website has now been updated with Clarence's 51 descendants - however, there are many more needing additional research.

Clarence is Stuart's 4th cousin twice removed.

Website Update 3 June 2016

During May, there has been a significant flurry of activity, which involved following up on a close match in Stuart's Autosomal (Family Finder) DNA Kit. This resulted in a wealth of new information, a trip to Lincolnshire Archives, and visits to the churches of Great Ponton, and Hough-on-the-Hill in Lincolnshire.

DNA Test Results

We were contacted by John Leadbeater - his father had a match with Stuart's DNA results, indicating he was a 2nd-3rd cousin. John believes it is through the Grococks, from Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire. Stuart's 3rd great-grandmother was Ann Grocock. Very little was known about her - we had last updated her information on 31 December 2006. With today's wealth of internet resources, we were able to find her three children, and trace her back a further two generations to Samuel & Dorothy Grocock née Barns who married on 11 April 1731 in St. Giles' Church, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire.

LCC Wills

Along the way, we discovered there were several GROCOCK wills in the Lincolnshire Archives, so we made a visit there to photograph the wills. We have created a photograph album in Google, if you would like to see the images of three wills of her mother Alice Grocock née Dant; her father Philip Grocock, and her brother Samuel Grocock.

Ann Grocock married William Moulds on 29 December 1800 in All Saints' Church, Hough-on-the-Hill, Lincolnshire. As we were in Lincolnshire, we visited this beautiful church, and Stuart took several photographs. These are included in the photograph album All Saints Church, Hough-on-the-Hill.

William and Ann lived in Great Ponton. In early April, Stuart visited Great Ponton church, and photographed the church - see the photograph album Church of The Holy Cross, Great Ponton Church, and Churchyard. In Great Ponton's churchyard Stuart found a couple of graves which we were unable to identify.

Descendants of Joseph and Sarah Moulds Family Tree

Subsequently, in our endeavours to find who they were (we have still not found them), we searched Ancestry Public Family Trees and found the tree of Descendants of Joseph and Sarah Moulds compiled by Andrew Buchanan-Smith. Wow! What a wealth of information. Joseph & Sarah Moulds née Smith, were Stuart's 4th great-grandparents. Their grand-daughter, Sarah Moulds married Thomas Pask.

Based on the information kindly provided by Andrew, it has enabled us to build a significant tree of the descendants of William Moulds, (c1710-1774), Stuart's 5th great-grandfather. Wherever possible, we have tried to collaborate Andrew's research. Fortunately, the website Find my Past, now has a lot of the original images of Lincolnshire Parish Registers 1538-1911, and we have included the baptisms, marriages, and burials images.

Also, earlier this year, we took out membership for the British Newspaper Archive. We therefore have included the Death Notices, wherever possible, and in some instances inquest reports.

Website Update Thursday 1 October 2015

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] and Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

The website was updated today, Thursday 1 October 2015.

This update focuses on William & Bridget Pask née Massey who were born and married in Great Hale in 1824. They then moved to Ewerby in Lincolnshire. 

After the death of his wife Bridget, in December 1843, William immigrated to New Jersey in America, at the same time his children also moved to several places in the USA. 

This has been a very interesting couple of weeks researching this family, who resided in New Jersey, Ohio, and Indiana. We initially researched this family back in 2004/5. There is now significantly more information available on the internet - including baptism and marriage records, photographs and numerous newspaper articles from the places where they settled.  

There are currently 73 known descendants of this family. Undoubtedly this figure will double over time. 

This included two individuals that really were quite special: 

• Milton Lawrence McCall, their 2 x great-grandson, although he died in 1963, at the early age of 52, he left a lasting legacy. So much so that only this year he has been honoured. For more information read his narrative.

• Elmer Allah Burlingame, their great-grandaughter's husband. In 1898, while attending high school, he got an idea. Elmer went on to be in the fore-front of the world’s greatest inventive geniuses. Unfortunately in 1914, things began to go very wrong. For more information read his narrative.

44 new narratives have been added since the last update on 15 September 2015. There is now a total of 11,076 detailed narratives available on the website and 18,030 (45 new) people in our database.

Pask Family Memorials in Valleau Cemetery New Jersey

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] and Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Recently 'Tucker' a volunteer with Find a Grave, kindly photographed a Pask Memorial at Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA.

The Pask Memorial Inscription shows:

Durant W. (1889-1957)
Johanna W. (1900-1989)
Marion M.      (1923-2011)
Lawrence H. (1925-2012)

Durant Watson Pask was the son of Charles Pask and Filomela Gabrielli who immigrated to America in 1888. Charles was born in 1856 in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, and was the 9th great-grandson of John Pask, (c1520-1591), the main Lincolnshire progenitor, who lived in Washingborough.

Marion and Lawrence were Durant, and his wife Johanna's son, and daughter-in-law.

In addition, Tucker noted that on the reverse of the memorial, there was a Tevis Memorial.

The inscription shows:

Ruth J. 1930-1990
Donald 1923-2001 Beloved Grandfather

Ruth J. Tevis née Pask was the daughter of Durant, and Johanna.

This information enabled us to do further research. The findings will be included in the next website update.

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] and Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire. 

Chart 30: James PASK, (1835- ) Southrow, or Southrey, near Bardney, Lincolnshire #1071  

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure to meet up again with Stephen Pask. We last met him at the Pask Family Gathering on Saturday July 26, 2008 in Whepstead, Suffolk. At that time he travelled from Australia specifically for the event. Stephen is now living back in the UK, and was attending a Nelson Society event in Portsmouth. 

Unfortunately, we have not go back any further on Stephen's family. His ancestor James was born in Southrey, near Bardney, in c1835. His father was Thomas Pask. However we have not been able to find any additional information on James, or Thomas. 

During his visit, we discussed lots of possibilities, and agreed it was best to look at the parish registers again. Fortunately the majority of Lincolnshire parish registers are now available on the website from the Lincolnshire Archives - http://www.lincstothepast.com. However, we noted that Southrey records for this period were not available. We decided to involve our dear friend and family historian, Eileen Robson, who we have known since 1981 - her knowledge and experience of Lincolnshire is extremely valuable. 

Whilst collecting together all the information, you can imagine our surprise, we received an e-mail from Ann Pepper, the Lay Minister for Southrey. 

She has kindly provided detailed information on the Pask burials in Southrey, together with the photograph of the church as detailed above. Furthermore, she explained that the church was only built in 1898 and that anything before this went to Bardney. 

Whilst we have not been able to find anything on James, or Thomas, we nevertheless have been able to group together families. In particular, another James Pask (1887, d. 1955). James married Beatrice Mary EAST in 1911. Unfortunately Beatrice died in December 1914. He then married Ethel Eliza TOWNELL in 1923. She died in February 1932. Then he married Annie E. DAVIDSON in 1934. Annie was the older sister of James' late wife Ethel Eliza.

Fortunately with Ann's detailed information we were able to identify the source records and put these pieces together.

Ann also provided another valuable source in the Southrey Village History website. We found Richard Pask aged 12 who died with two others lads and is buried in Bardney.

Update to 25th Elgin Cemetery Walk

This information relates to Chart 51, the descendants of John & Mary Pask née Hammond who lived in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in the 1840-1860s.

Through www.findagrave.com, I contacted Anna who has advised me that there are several other Pask buried at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin. She has provided this photograph.

Additionally she provided a link to an excellent Youtube video of the 25th Elgin Cemetery Walk.  Brilliant!

Elgin Cemetery Walk - Francis Joseph Pask

This information relates to Chart 51, the descendants of John & Mary Pask née Hammond who lived in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in the 1840-1860s.

Just recently through Google Alerts, we were notified of the 25th Elgin Cemetery Walk by Dave Gathman from the Elgin Courier News in Illinois, USA. Dave reported:

"The cemetery walk is put on each year in Bluff City Cemetery as a fundraiser for the Elgin Area Historical Society. Actors who volunteer to re-create each person and have researched that person’s life dress up as the person would have looked, stand at the real person’s grave and speak for five to seven minutes about the life of the person whose remains lie below. Tour groups move from one such gravesite to the next...
...One couple being portrayed, Francis “Shanty” Pask and his mother, Maryann Pask, had a life story so odd that it once was featured in the nationally syndicated comic strip “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” in 1941. "

Having read the detailed account I decided to identify where his mother Mary Ann originated from.

Mary Ann Pask née Lamming, immigrated together with her husband William Pask, departing from Liverpool on the "Constellation" arriving in New York on 13 April 1854. They settled in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois, USA. I found the family listed in the 1860 through to the 1940 censuses. William was listed initially as a Farmer, and then a Gardener. They had six children:

• Mariah A. Pask b. 1854
• George Lamming Pask b. 7 Jul 1856, d. 24 Oct 1927
• Elizabeth Pask b. 1858
• Francis "Frank" Joseph Pask b. 1860, d 6 Jun 1940 - known as "Shanty"
• Lottie J. Pask b. 1862
• Julia Pask b. 1864

William was born in 1828 in Moulton, Lincolnshire. He was the son of Joseph & Mary Pask née Hammond.

William married Mary Ann Lamming in 1850 in the Glanford Brigg registration district. In the census of 30 March 1851 in Howsham, Lincolnshire, he was listed as a Rail Labourer, aged 23 born in Moulton Egate [Moulton Eaugate], the son-in-law of George Lambing. 

William died in Elgin, between 1880 and 1900. Mary Ann died on 18 October 1919, and is buried in Bluff City Cemetery. Her son Francis after being paralyzed by spinal damage in 1913, died on 6 June 1940, having spent 27 years in hospital.

The Elgin Cemetery Walk was well attended, as reported by Tara García Mathewson from the Daily Herald.

New DNA Results

Another excellent result in the DNA Project.

This information relates to Chart 01, one of Lincolnshire main families - William Pask (c1695-), who lived in Wellingore, Lincolnshire (Stuart's own ancestors).

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] and Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Whilst we cannot found the documentary evidence to link the Lincolnshire families from Chart 1, and Chart 3, today we heard the initial results of the DNA tests currently in progress from a descendant of Chart 3.

Whilst this is only the first 12 of 37 markers, all 12 match with the 3 DNA tests in Chart 1. This is superb news, as this means they all share the same DNA.

The results can be seen on the Family Tree DNA website in the Pask DNA Project. Later next month we will include the results on the DNA website page. Also these families will be merged in the next website update. 

Thank you to all concerned for taking part in the DNA project. We welcome any male Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que) to participate in the Pask DNA Project - do contact us for further details. This is a major contribution to the Pask One-Name Study.

Henry & Elizabeth Pask née Marshall

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] and Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Yesterday we received a booklet containing a presentation created by Shirley Amos, from America. This presentation contains a significant amount of information on the family of Henry and Elizabeth Pask née Marshall who emigrated to America on RMS Abyssinia, arriving on April 22, 1872 into New York.

Henry was born on 11 March 1849 in Nocton, Lincolnshire. His wife Mary (née Marshall) was born on 31 December 1855 in Scothern, Lincolnshire. They had ten children, eight of which are shown in the above photograph.

Charles & Filomela Pask née Gabrielli

This information relates to Chart 19, the descendants of William Paske, (c1695- ) who lived in Wellingore, Lincolnshire.

Back in June 2006, we established together with our long standing friend and fellow researcher, John Pask, that his great-grandfather Charles Pask (1856-1939) immigrated to New York, America. See blog titled Charles Pask.

Last week whilst searching our GRO death index transcripts for an infant's death in Chelsea, I came across the death of a Mina Gabrielli in 1887/Q3, age 0. The name Gabrielli jumped out. I recalled that Charles had married a Filomela Garbielli. I searched for corresponding birth, and found it. I hastily e-mailed John.

Subsequently John purchased the birth, and death certificate for Mina. It confirmed that her parents were Charles & Filomela Pask née Gabrielli.

Mina was born on 1 July 1887 at 27 South Parade, Chelsea. Sadly she died at the age of 6 weeks, on 15 August 1887 also at 27 South Parade, Chelsea.

John followed up and telephoned the surrounding cemeteries, and located Mina's burial at Brompton Cemetery on 19 August 1887 in Plot 137807. Unfortunately the cemetery was damaged during the World War II, and although the graves are still in tack any headstones did not survive.

Yet another piece of the jigsaw put in place. This now establishes that Charles & Filomela met at 1885-1886, and did not immigrate to America until at least late 1887.

This information has been included in the database, and will be included in the next website update.

Betsy Pask's Sampler on eBay

This morning Paula Payne informed us that a sampler sewn by Betsy Pask in 1972 is available on eBay.

Descendants of William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon

This information relates to Chart 46: William Pask (1860-1914) born in Southery Lincolnshire #1470.

Chris Bell wrote to us this evening. She is an ardent researcher, but is still looking for the elusive information on the birth/baptism and marriage of her great-grandparents William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon.

Kate Pask née Avery

This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

Today, we had another e-mail from Gordon Beech. This time he provided a delightful photograph of Edith, Maurice, and Kate Avery. Kate later married George Albert Pask, the son of George & Elizabeth Pask née Clark (Stuart's 3 x Great-Grandparents).

Family Gathering in Great Gonerby - August 1981

This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

We received an e-mail from Gordon Beech today. He and his wife Betty have been able to identify some of the people on the back cover of the publication PASKs of Lincolnshire Volume I.

Together with additional information provided by Marjorie Horrell née Wood, we have now identified quite a few of the people:

This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

Website Update 26 March 2009

The website was updated today, Thursday 26 March. This update focuses on the Lincoln registration district marriages so kindly provided by Marion Harper Hopkins as part of the Guild of One-Name Studies marriage challenge, as detailed in the December blog titled Lincoln Marriages.

All the 55 marriages have now been included in the database. The marriage transcripts from numerous Lincolnshire parish registers are available as downloads in the Sources of Information section of the relevant individual narratives.

We are looking forward to meeting Marion this weekend, as we are attending the Lincolnshire Family History One Day Conference at City School, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln. It has been over 20 years since we attended a Lincolnshire conference, and we look forward to renewing old acquaintances.

John Jabez Daubney Pask

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] & Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

This week my brother Kelvin went on a business trip to Alexandria, Egypt. He kindly agreed to visit a war grave there. He took numerous photographs. The cemetery is currently under renovation - they are replacing the grass. The photographs below show other parts of the cemetery, and the Egyptian gardener who lovingly cares for the cemetery. There are several other photographs available in the John Jabez Daubney Pask album, available in Picasa web albums.

J.J.D. Pask, was John Jabez Daubney Pask. He was born in 1879 in North Kyme, Lincolnshire, the son of Edward & Jane Pask née Daubney. He married Sarah Elizabeth Gash on 1 November 1906. They had five children. John was killed in action on 1 November 1917. Information on this family was originally provided in 2004 by Joanne Kirby.

Descendants of Henry & Elizabeth Pask née Asman

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] & Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Yesterday I contacted Becky Pask, through Facebook. I don't really use Facebook, however back in June last year I was notified about the 200 Global Pask Challenge. I was browsing through the list of people who took part in the challenge, and came across Becky's name.

Becky lives in New York state. She was delighted I contacted her, and sent me a link to the Pask Family Web Home. This family had a family reunion on July 27 2008, by sheer coincidence a day after the Pask Family Gathering.

Becky and I intend to exchange information, and bring up-to-date the information on the descendants of Henry & Elizabeth Pask née Asman, who emigrated to America on RMS Abyssinia, arriving 22 April 1872. Henry was born in 1849 in Nocton, Lincolnshire.
