Update on Descendants of John & Anne Pask née Thomas

This information relates to Chart 45: William PASK (1808-1893) born in Nantylgo, Monmouthshire #9973.

Further to the recent posting Descendants of John & Anne Pask née Thomas, David Hopkins wrote to us. He said:

Your last blog on Pask.org.uk is most interesting. John's father is listed as James Pask. This could be the same James who was the father of William Pask b Nantylo Aberustruth 1808. William had a daughter Anne and I believe Elvira.
I think that this probably the missing link. We will investigate further this James, and his wife Mary, and their son William and see if there is further evidence to verify this.

William's daughter was infact called Levinia, or Lavinia, however in the 1851 census she was known as Evenia.

Thanks for David for this information. Just goes to show the power of the blog!

Descendants of John & Anne Pask née Thomas

This information relates to a currently unidentified main branch of the family with roots in Monmouthshire.

Recently we have been corresponding with John Powell, who is the descendant of John & Anne Pask née Thomas of Aberystruth, Monmouthshire.

John has provided a birth, and marriage certificate of their daughter Elvira who was born on 7 November 1845 in Ebbw Vale, Aberystruth Monmouthshire. Elvira married William Thomas on 17 November 1866 in Sharon Chapel, Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire.

In addition John provided the marriage certificate of John & Anne, who married on 7 June 1840 in The Parish Church, Aberystruth. His father was listed as James Pask, a Paper-Maker. This is an usual occupation, and we have not come across a Pask in this occupation.

Although we have extensively searched the censuses, and baptisms in this area, we cannot find James. If anyone can help on this, am I sure that John will really appreciate it. We all hate mysteries, and brickwalls.

The information that John has provided, together with the certificates, will be available in the next website update.

Just a quick update on the progress made with the 1911 census.

We have purchased the images for London, Middlesex, Staffordshire, and Gloucestershire. Also Stuart's direct family in Lincolnshire. So if you have any Pask ancestors in these areas do contact us and we can let you have the image.

Also several researchers have provided their indexes from families in Suffolk, including some not transcribed as Pask.

We are also compiling an index of the Pask, Paske, and Pasques households for the current available counties.

If you decide to buy any Pask images, we would welcome a copy. Do check with us beforehand we can easily tell you which ones we have, or have not.

William Pask born c1860 in Southery Lincolnshire

This information relates to Chart 46: William Pask (1860-1914) born in Southery Lincolnshire #1470.

As detailed in several previous blogs, Chris Bell is researching her great-grandparents William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon. Fortunately the recent release of the 1911 census has finally resolved whether William was born in Southery Lincolnshire, or Southery Norfolk. The 1911 Census shows him as born in 1860 in Southery Lincolnshire. The website will be updated in the next release.

Southery, also known as Southrow is a hamlet near Bardney. This will enable Chris to focus her research in this area. Unfortunately his baptism, and his marriage to Grace still remains elusive.

There was a William Pask born in 1862 in Bardney, but this is not him, as this William lived, and died in the Chorlton on Medlock registration district, where he married Elizabeth Cookson, and then after her death, Elizabeth's sister Emma Cookson.

John Bensley Gresham Page Paske

This relates to the descendants of John Pask whose son John married Mary GOLDSBOROW and they lived in Stragwell, Suffolk.

As a follow-on to the recent blog on Henry Gresham Paske. Pam Mercier wrote to us about Henry's uncle, John Bensley Gresham Page Paske.

Pam writes:

I am researching the Gresham name and have noted that several Paske men bear that name as part of the forenames.

It has been my experience that usually having a surname as part of your forename indicates a marriage of a Gresham woman into that line.

The first I can find is John Bensley Gresham Page Paske 1791 Barking Suffolk, he married according to the IGI and East India co records to a Harriet Newman and had one daughter Harriet Bensley Gresham Paske who died in 1837 a few months after giving birth to a son from her marriage to Francis Henry Crozier( 1836 Madras) the son was called Gresham Paske Rawson Crozier b1837 Madras d1870 Wandsworth. Gresham married Laura Kew in 1859 in South Kensington and had three children:
Walter Gresham Crozier 1860-1871
Montague Liston Paske Crozier 1868 1909 unmarried
Margaret Hester Crozier 1869

We agree entirely with Pam, we also believe that these are mother's maiden names passed through the generations. Unfortunately we are not sure which mother, or mothers had these names.

This information will be included in a subsequent website update.

1911 Census Now Available

They have now released the 1911 Census.

It is available http://fmpbsol.1911census.co.uk, also on www.findmypast.com. Unfortunately it is a pay-to-view website, you have to buy credits to view the transcripts, or original pages. This is not yet part of the subscription package of www.findmypast.com – it is expected to be another 6 months before it will be included in the annual subscriptions.

The good news in the meantime is that the index is free, and you can work the family groups out, if you can narrow them down.

We have already compiled an index of Pask & Paskes for the initial 22 counties, and purchased the images for London, Middlesex, Staffordshire, and Gloucestershire.
Today they released many more counties.

There is a full list of the counties available. All the latest information is available in the 1911census.co.uk blog.

If you decide to buy any Pask images, we would welcome a copy. We have all the images for London, Staffordshire, and Bristol.

Henry Gresham Paske

Henry Gresham PaskeThis relates to the descendants of John Pask whose son John married Mary GOLDSBOROW and they lived in Stragwell, Suffolk.

Martin Brady, contacted us again today. He is not related, however he is very interested in military history. He has provided information before - see a previous blog.

This time he has provided a gem - a carte de visite, or visiting card, of Henry Gresham Paske.

Henry was the son of Edward & Helen Amelia Paske née Gurley. He was a Lieutenant in the 95th Foot (Derbyshire) and was listed in the medal roll for the Indian Mutiny 1857-1859.

Our sincere thanks to Martin for providing us with this photograph.
