Website Update Sunday 16 October 2016

The website was updated today, Sunday 16 October, 2016.

264 new narratives have been added since the last update on 3 June 2016. These changes relate to the following surnames:

The updates mainly relate to the following charts / family groups:

• Chart 01: Lincolnshire Main Progenitor - John PASK, (c1520 - 1591) he lived in Washingborough, Lincolnshire

• Chart 02-1 John PASK, eldest son of Suffolk Main Progenitor - John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow 

• Chart 06: Indented Chart - Unknown PASK lived in Suffolk
  Chart 29 is now merged with Chart 06, as a result of DNA testing.

• Chart 09: John PASKE, was a Yeoman of Stradishall, Suffolk (d1577)

• Chart 49 Indented Chart: Unknown PASK (c1695-) who lived in Dingestow, and Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire
  Chart 42 is now merged with Chart 49, as a result of DNA testing.

There is a total of 18,964 (92 new) people in our database.

DNA Testing for Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que) Update

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque, (c1700-1754) who lived in Theberton, Suffolk.

We have received the results of the DNA testing of Roy Parsk, who kindly agreed to do a DNA test for Chart 29. This is a particularly interesting family as there has been numerous spellings of the name. See the previous blog dated September 12.

The DNA results show that this family (extensively researched by several, including Herbert Bunt, Martyn K. Elmy, Valerie Francis, Kevin Parsk, Roy Parsk, and Geraldine Edwards) has the same DNA as Chart 06. Chart 06: Indented Chart - Unknown PASK lived in Kedington, Suffolk #13655.

This means that the 326 people currently assigned to Chart 29 will be merged with Chart 06 which already has 1596 people. We need to establish how Thomas Pasque links into Chart 06. Hopefully this will be completed in the next website update. Thomas lived in Theberton, some 60 miles from Kedington.

In the meantime, the results of the DNA test can be seen on www.familytreedna.com in Pask DNA Project - Y-DNA Classic Chart.

Many thanks to Roy for agreeing to do the DNA test and for allowing us to publish his name in the hope of encouraging other male Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que) to come forward and volunteer to do the test. It is strongly recommened that more than one person from each group take the test.

DNA Testing for Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que)

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque, (c1700-1754) who lived in Theberton, Suffolk.

As a result of the recent successful DNA testing, Roy Parsk has kindly agreed to do a DNA test for Chart 29. This is particularly an interesting family as there has been numerous spellings of the name.

Thomas Pasque married Ann Knighting on 8 June 1732 in Theberton, Suffolk. Thomas was the Parish Clerk there. His 220+ descendants span 11 generations, and have many variants of the name, including Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que). This family has been extensively researched by several, including Herbert Bunt, Martyn K. Elmy, Valerie Francis, Kevin Parsk, Roy Parsk, and Geraldine Edwards.

Roy's own ancestors had the names of PARSK, PASQUE, PIRSK, and PASK. Whilst most of them originated from Suffolk, there are family rumours that they came from Essex. Let's hope the DNA testing will confirm there is a connection between this family and one of the main progenitors.

Herbert Bunt

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Herbert Bunt telephoned tonight. It is always good to hear from him. His enthusiam is such an inspiration. As detailed in previous blogs, last year Herbert featured in the BBC programme "Found" with Kate Adie. He is tracing his Pasque ancestors, who originated from Blyburgh in Suffolk.

I am trying to put pressure on him to come to the Pask Family Gathering in July 2008.

Descendants of James Pask from Wickhambrook Suffolk

This information relates to Chart 31, the descendants of James Pask, (1797-1865), who was born in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

This information relates to the green-icon tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

James Pask was born in 1797 in Wickhambrook. After extensive analysis, it has been determined that all other Wickhambrook Pasks are related to John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow. James is likely to be the son of Thomas Pask, who died in Wickhambrook in 1815, at the age of 62. However, currently no marriage or other references to Thomas has been found. This is purely assumptive, and of course requires additional research.

Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que)

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

During the past two weeks we have been working together with Kevin Parsk who is a descendant of Thomas & Ann Pasque née Knighting.

Kevin wrote:

I have tried to do my own research through the public records and ancestry.com but have always been stymied by the continual change of spellings from Pasque to Parsk. Our branch tradition is that a legendary Spicer Parsk changed the spelling when accused of being a French spy!

Kevin's dilema is that his family name has changed continually throughout the generations. He has recorded all the possible variants of Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que).

Kevin has helped considerally by identifying missing entries in the GRO Indexes, particularly of his name Parsk, which is now mainly located in Sussex, Surrey, and Yorkshire. With only 12 births in the last 20 years this indeed is a very unusual surname.

Kevin's information has been partly included in the database and will be updated in the next website update.

Pasques of Cumbria continued

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Nathan Pasque wrote again yesterday, as a follow-on from the previous blog Pasques of Cumbria. Nathan has kindly provided some photographs of two graves in St. Michael's Church in Lowther, Cumbria.

The first monumental inscriptions reads:

Freda Pasque died 16th June 1936 aged 19 years and of her sister Nada Lily Yates died 7th December 1991 aged 77 years beloved wife of Ernest John died 18th July 1995 aged 78 years At Rest

From the GRO death indexes I found that Nada was born on 7 May 1914. I have not yet located her marriage to Ernest John Yates, who was born on 9 November 1916.

The other monumental inscription reads:

In loving memory of Lily Jane Pasque died 9th March 1961 aged 76 years and of her husband Frederick James died 15th December 1961 aged 77 years At Rest.

Pasques of Cumbria

This information relates to Chart 29, the descendants of Thomas Pasque of Theberton Suffolk.

Nathan Pasque wrote to me in March, and explained:

My granddad was Fredrick Ernest Pasque who lived in Cumbria and worked on Lord Lonsdale's estate as a stable lad and his father was a game keeper.

Nathan provided sufficient information to establish that Frederick was the son of Frederick James S. & Lily Jane Pasque née Munday. Frederick James Spicer Pasque was born in 1884 in Blythburgh, Suffolk. He was the son of George Spicer & Gertrude Pasque née Saunders. George was also a game keeper. This family has been well researched by Herbert Bunt (see previous blog Herbert Bunt - BBC 1 Television Programme), Martin Elmy, and Valerie Francis.

Nathan is the 7 x great-grandson of Thomas Pasque who was the Parish Clerk of Theberton Suffolk.
