Website Update 25 October 2020

 

69 new narratives have been added, and 111 changed, since the last website update on 31 August. There are now a total of 13,321 detailed narratives available on the website and 21,119 people (86 new) in our database. 

 

This update partially focused on the descendants of William MOULDS, (c1710-1774), Stuart's 5th great-grandfather, who lived in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire. This time, his UK based descendants. See http://pask-paske.blogspot.com/2020/10/moulds-family-of-old-somerby.html.

 

In addition, we have included some information on the descendants of William PASK Chart 54: William PASK, (1662- ) lived in Stambourne, Essex #8545. In particular, his descendant Allen ARGENT http://pask.org.uk/Pask-p/p163.htm#i4055, who immigrated to Australia, with his wife Emma, and two children Rebecca & Matilda; and his sister Hepzibah, arriving in Sydney on 1 August 1855. 

 

They lived in an district near Bowraville, New South Wales, Australia, later to be called Argents Hill. They had a further ten children. Marilyn Dear, his 2 x Great Granddaughter has kindly provided information, together with the Ancestry Chart of Brian Pearson.

William Partington Pask (1853-1939)

William Partington Pask was born in 1853 in Great Crosby, Lancashire, England. He was the son of Thomas and Sarah Pask née Partington.

After the death of his parents, William lived with his step-parents in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. When he was 11 years old, he had an argument with his step-parents which resulted in him signing up on a ship travelling to Australia as a cabin boy.

William married Margaret Rosina Webster Stewart c1878 in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. They went on to have ten children. Eight of them are included in this photograph, taken in 1899. For more details see http://pask.org.uk/Pask-p/e2834.htm.

Recently, we have been in touch with Patricia Murphy, the granddaughter of William and Mary's daughter Agnes Kinsey née Pask. Patricia has kindly provided the above family photograph, together with extensive information on Agnes, and her siblings, and their descendants. This information has been included in the website update on 12 April 2020.

Website Update Tuesday 15 September 2015

The website was updated yesterday, Tuesday 15 September 2015.

This update focuses on information on the descendants of William Partington Pask from Lincolnshire (Chart 14), as detailed in the blog titled Descendants of William Partington Pask.

At the age of 11, William left Liverpool and signed up on a ship travelling to Australia, as a cabin boy. He settled, and married in Queensland, and had ten children. There is a lot of additional information — several photographs and numerous newspaper articles from the Townville Daily Bulletin.

28 new narratives have been added since the last update on 30 August 2015. There is now a total of 11,031 detailed narratives available on the website and 17,985 (28 new) people in our database.

Descendants of William Partington Pask

This information relates to Chart 14, the descendants of William Pask, (1791 - 1874) Caythorpe, Lincolnshire. 

William Partington Pask (1853-1839)

We were contacted by George & Jan Harlow née Pask, from Queensland Australia. They advised that Jan's grandfather was William Partington Pask who left Liverpool after an argument with his stepfather and stepmother in Liverpool at the Eagle Vault Hotel and signed on a ship travelling to Australia as a cabin boy. After many experiences he married and settled at the Kirk River, west of the coastal town of Townsville, North Queensland.  

William married Margaret Rosina Webster STEWART, and they had ten children. 

We have done some extensive research, particularly in the Trove Digitized Newspapers website, which has provided a wealth of information on this Townsville family. This information will be included in the next website update. 

George & Jan also provided us with ten photographs relating to the family, and their descendants. The photographs are priceless, and have been included in a Picasa Web Album. 

Sincere thanks for George & Jan contacting us and providing us with this very interesting insight into life in Australia in the early 20th century.

Pask Gathering Melbourne - Tuesday 3 March 2015

This information relates to Chart 6 - Unknown Pask who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

This information relates to Chart 10, the descendants of John & Frances Pask née Haffinden who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

Colin Pask kindly organised an excellent Pask Gathering in Cattani Gardens in the West Beach area in St. Kilda, Melbourne on Tuesday.

Colin is the grandson of Arthur James Pask, who immigrated to Australia in 1899, together with his parents James & Charlotte Pask née Chaffin. Other attendees included:

Ray Pask, together with his brother Edward. They are the grandsons of Henry James Pask, who immigrated to Australia in 1897. Henry was the older brother of Arthur James Pask (Colin’s grandfather). Ray and Colin only met in 2009, through the Pask One-Name Study, see the previous blog Power of DNA.

Yvonne Sumner née Pask, and her husband Ian. Yvonne is the daughter of Arthur & Dora Pask née Vaux, and we have been corresponding since 2009. Yvonne has provided a wealth of information on her family, who immigrated to Australia in 1912, together with his grandmother, and aunts, after his father Walter Pask was tragically killed in a railway accident in 1908 at the age of 32. See the previous blog New Web Photograph Album - Yvonne Sumner. Yvonne is the 5^th cousin of Colin, Ray, and Edward.

Peter Vinter & his wife Serena, and their friend Sue. Peter’s daughter Jessica (who was unable to attend because her baby is due any day now) contacted us in 2010. Peter’s biological father is believed to be Arthur Kenneth Pask. Peter is the 6^th cousin of Colin, Ray, and Edward.

Robyn Smith, and her cousin Andrew Pask. Robyn and Andrew are the grandchildren of James Ernest & Edna Florence Pask née Griffiths. Robyn is the daughter of Velma May Smith née Pask. Andrew is the son of Kenneth James & Margret Pask née Bonnet. Their 2 x great-grandfather James Horton Pask married his wife Julie née Asplin in 1833 in Thundersley, Essex. They had seven children. Julie died in 1848, and James immigrated to Australia in 1855. He married his second wife Margaret née McLeod and they had an additional seven children. They have descendants in Australia, and New Zealand.

Colin was a perfect host, and tour guide. Earlier in the day he collected us from the ship, and took us to Victoria Market, followed by a visit to Fitzroy Gardens, including Cook's Cottage. Afterward the Pask Gathering, we had just enough time to visit the Shrine of Remembrance, and also see the stunning view of the city. A thoroughly enjoyable, and memorable day.

Website Update 25 February 2015

The website was updated yesterday, Wednesday 25 February, 2015.

This update is primarily for the Pask Family Gathering in Melbourne on 3 March, and contains a lot of Australian and New Zealand information. In addition, the focus has been on UK Probate records 1960 to 2014.

This is a significiant update, as 179 new narratives have been added since the last update on 7 January 2015. There are now a total of 10,711 detailed narratives available on the website and 17,404 (219 new) people in our database.

Website Update - Wednesday 7 January 2015

The website was updated today, Wednesday 7 January, 2015.

The focus of this update was Australian PASK(E)s, pending our visit to Australia in March.

17 narratives have changed since the last update on 1 January 2015. This includes 17 new narratives. These changes are mainly based on information available from the Births, Marriages, and Deaths in Australia, from www.ancestry.com. 

The updates mainly relate to the following charts / family groups:

• Chart 10: John Pask, (1771-1847) lived in Thundersley, Essex
• Chart 14: William PASK, (1791-1874) from Caythorpe & Sedgebrook, Lincolnshire

Pask Family Gathering Melbourne March 3 2015

There will be a PASK Family Gathering in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday March 3, 2015. A small group of PASK(E)s will be attending.

It will be held at St. Kilda, at the north end of Pier Road (near Beaconsfield Road), from 12 noon till about 3:00pm.
 

Bring your own food and drink. There are 4 electric BBQs at the location. There are a couple of tables which we hope to use but you might want to bring a chair.

Website Update 2 November 2014

The website was updated yesterday, Sunday 2 November. An additional 26 new narratives have been added since the last update on 21 October 2014. This makes a total of 10,421 detailed narratives are now available on the website - although there was an increase of 36 people, including living people - there are now 17,037 people in our database.

The focus was New Zealand, in particular:

Chart 10: Essex Main Progenitor - John Pask, (1771-1847) Thundersley, Essex. In particular James Horton Pask, who immigrated to Victoria, Australia, on the ship "Ida", arriving in February 1855. His descendants today, live in Victoria Australia, and New Zealand. 

Chart 49: Charles Pask (1760-1833) who lived in Dingestow, and Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire

All the New Zealand births, deaths, and marriages from https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/ have been included, where available:

Website Update 21 October 2014

The website was updated today, Tuesday 21 October. There are an additional 40 new narratives included in this update. This makes a total of 10,395 detailed narratives are now available on the website - although there was an increase of 51 people, including living people. Over 17,000 people are now in our database, and increasing daily.

The main focus was Australian, and Tasmanian PASKs, and their descendants: 

Chart 06: Pasks who lived in Kedington, Suffolk. In particular, the descendants of James & Charlotte Mary Pask née Chaffin, who immigrated on the ship "Oroya" departing from London on 14 April 1899, for Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Chart 10: Essex Main Progenitor - John Pask, (1771-1847) Thundersley, Essex. In particular James Horton Pask, who immigrated to Victoria, Australia, on the ship "Ida", arriving in February 1855. His descendants today, live in Victoria Australia, and New Zealand. 

Chart 11: John Pask, (c1745-1793) who married Elizabeth Fountain and they lived in Gautby, Lincolnshire. In particular, the family of Joseph & Martha Pask née Edwards - previously detailed in the blog dated March 7, 2007. Joseph immigrated to Queensland, Australia on the ship "Bulimba", arriving on 24 March 1887.

Descendants of Phoebe Elizabeth Kaucher née Pask

This information relates to Chart 06 - Unknown Pask who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

We had an e-mail yesterday from Janice Hecker who lives in Australia. She is the grand-daughter of Phoebe Elizabeth Pask, from the Suffolk Family Chart 06.

We searched www.ancestry.co.uk for some additional information, and found Phoebe's marriage to Edward Kaucher in the parish register of St. Judes, Bethnal Green. Also her school admission in 26 August 1901 to Cranbrook Road school in Tower Hamlets.

Janice advised that she also had an Aunt Phoebe, who was not listed in the narratives. So we need to do some more research here.




Janice's parents and her siblings immigrated to Australia in 1962. We look forward to receiving more information from her.

Pask Graves in Buninyong, Victoria, Australia

This information relates to Chart 23 - Descendants of Edward Pask (1771-1836) who lived in Barholm, Lincolnshire.

Our friends, and fellow Guild of One-Name Studies member, Ken Toll and his wife Jean recently visited Australia. During their stay they visited Buninyong, in the state of Victoria. Buninyong is ten minutes' south of Ballarat along the Midland Highway.  Gold was discovered there in 1851. They were looking for an elusive Toll grave. Unfortunately they did not find it. However fortunate for us, they found two Pask graves in the cemetery and kindly photographed them, and sent the photographs to us a couple of weeks ago.

The graves belonged to Lambert Pask (1831-1899) and his family, including his wife Charlotte Pask née Walsher (1833-1907), his son George (1856-1913), and George's wife Elizabeth Catherine Pask née Jenkin (1856-1936), and their daughter Hilda Rosamond (1887-1907).

The photographs are included in a web album.

Australian Births, Marriages, and Deaths

This week Ancestry announced that the availability of the Australia Birth, Marriage, and Death Index:

Australia Birth Index, 1788-1922 Australia Marriage Index, 1788-1949 Australia Death Index, 1787-1985

These indexes include the Australian registrar's offices after civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths became law in the mid 19th century. Also church records that predate civil registration.
 
We searched these indexes for Pask, Paske, and Pasque, and found the following information:

Australia's Largest Online Memorial

Recently, through the Guild of One-Name Studies, I heard about the Heaven Address website - Australia's Largest Online Memorial. This website provides obituaries, funeral notifications, and burial records for Australia, and New Zealand.

The 9 Pask(e) records found were predominately from Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Sydney Delhi and Plassey Roads, North Ryde, NSW Australia. In some circumstances they covered over members of their families. These included:

• Francis Pask died 1991
• Irene Emily Pask née Starr died 1982 (wife of Francis)
• Walter Otto Paul Paske died 1984
• Hildegard Freda Paske died 2004 (wife of Walter)
• Colin Leonard Pask died 2007 
• Mrytle Colleen Pask née Taylor died before 2007 (wife of Colin)
• Robin Hugh Pask died 2007
• Eliza Eileen Pask died 1945

All these records are currently not linked to a main family, except Colin Leonard Pask who was the son of Leonard Pask. So hopefully someone will be able to provide more information that will enable us to associate them with a family group. 

In the meantime, I have recorded all the New South Wales births, marriages, and death indexes. In these BMDs, there is the following Pask, Paske, and Pasque information:

Descendants of James & Charlotte Mary Pask née Chaffin

This information relates to Chart 6 - Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

Last Friday we received an inquiry from Raymond Pask from Australia. He is researching his great-grandparents James & Charlotte Mary Pask née Chaffin. He writes:

"... one of their sons, Henry James Pask, who migrated to Australia in 1896, is my grandfather. He died in Melbourne in 1931. His parents, James and Charlotte, migrated to Australia in 1907. James died in 1914, while Charlotte died in 1911. All four (incl Henry James' wife, Isabella Smith) are buried together in Brighton Cemetery, Melbourne."

Following up on this lead, I searched the migration records on http://www.findmypast.com/. Although James was not correctly indexed, I found them actually departing from London on 14 April 1899 on the ship Oroya. They travelled together with their son Arthur. Also their daughter Mary Ann, and son-in-law James Walter Dean and their two children George, and Edith Mary Dean.

This solved two mysteries as previously we could not find the family in the 1901 census, and also could not establish who Mary Ann married.

Raymond is curious to find out what happened to two other sons William and James, and their families. He knows that they also emigrated to Australia, however currently cannot establish when it was. There is also a family bible with more names mentioned that aren't on our birth list from James and Charlotte.

This information will be included in the next website update. We look forward to exchanging more information with Ray, and hopefully establish a connection between the Suffolk Pask families in charts 04, and 06.

John & Mary Hannah Beard née Pask

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Last month we received a letter from Christine A. Paisley, who lives in Albany, West Australia. She writes that her husband's grandmother was Mary Hannah Pask, the daughter of John & Elizabeth Pask née Crockett. Mary was born on 15 February 1885 at Barbadoes Green, Tintern, Monmouthshire.

Christine has provided details that has enabled us to identify John & Mary's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 2 x great-grandchildren. This information will be included in the next website update in Chart 04.

John Joseph Stephen & Julia Wiber née Pask

This information relates to the descendants of the Essex Main Progenitor - John Pask, (1771-1847) who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

Today we received an e-mail from Mandy Bourdon. She writes:

I live in Australia ... my ggg grandmother was a Elizabeth Louisa Wiber daughter of John Joseph Stephen Wiber and Julia Pask but on your website it only states an Emma Wiber.

The reason for only having Emma was because the information came from the passenger list of the "Parsee". If there were other children they must have been born in Australia.

Mandy is going to provide more information. In the meantime, we will include Elizabeth in the next website update.

Paskeville, Australia

This information relates to the yellow-icon tree - descendants of John Paske c1600, who lived in Cambridgeshire - his son John married Mary GOLDSBOROW.

Colleen Willis, our ardent researcher in Australia is researching several Paskes who were born in India, and then immigrated to Australia. During the process of following up on these Paskes, we found that Edward Hanson Paske who was born in Madras India, and was a Colonel in the Army, was related to a Lady L. Jervois. Edward's wife was called Amelia Caroline Jervois [not Jarvis, as listed on the website).

Lady L. Jervois was probably the wife of the Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, GCMG, CB who was a military engineer and Governor of the Straits Settlements, South Australia and New Zealand. The Governor had the habit of naming towns in South Australia after his friends, and family.

You can imagine our surprise when seaching for more information on Sir Jervois that we found Paskeville, a town 19 km ESE of Kadina Australia, was named on 4 March 1880, after General Paske, a brother-in-law of Governor Jervois.

Newborn or Newman Pask

Just recently Colleen Willis, our main researcher in Australia provided some information on Newbon (or Newborn, or Newman) Pask was transported on "Recovery" arriving in Van Diemans Land 8 October 1837.

This is verified by some new records relating to Australia just recently issued by http://www.ancestry.co.uk/ - Australian Convict Transportation Registers – Other Fleets & Ships, 1791-1868. The record from the National Archives HO11/11 shows that Newborn Pask sailed on the "Recovery" departing on 27 May 1837 going to Van Diemans Land. He was convicted together with Richard Ellett, and Thomas Downes at Rutland Assizes on 3 May 1837 for life.

Newborn then appears several times in the New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849.

Recently Colleen has changed her ISP and although I am receiving e-mails from her, she seems not to be receiving my replies. Hopefully she is able to rectify the problem soon.
