Descendant (Indented) Charts

2011 has been a very busy year, and I have somewhat neglected the website, and blogs. This is understandable as I work full-time as the Project Manager of a very innovative, market-leading, global 3-year project that provides the infrastructure that will enable modular, multi-modal content production. In addition, in April I joined the committee of the Guild of One-Name Studies, in the role of the Editor of their quarterly journal. So it has been a challenging year.

Nevertheless, a week ago, I was delighted to see that a new edition was available of The Master Genealogist (TMG), the family history program that we use to record Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que) related information. I welcome this with open arms, as for some time, we have not been able to produce reports due to technical constraints. This has now been resolved. Lots of new features are also available, and over the next couple of months, I hope to include some of these new features.

Additionally, I have updated to the latest version of John Cardinal's Second Site. This marvellous software enables me to generate over 11,000 files and webpages, in less than 5 minutes. This pages make up the bulk of the website - the Detailed Narratives, Charts, Master Place Index, and the Surname Index, to name a few. One of the features available earlier in the year, but not yet included on our website was the Descendant Indented Chart.

The descendant indented chart condenses the very large charts and makes them much more manageable, and easily printed. The chart shows the children indented under the entries for their parents. The charts include plus [+] and minus [-] symbols that allow expanding or collapsing sections of the tree.

The website has being updated today Monday 26 December 2011. Although there has not been an update for some time, it nevertheless contains a lot of ongoing changes. There are 64 new narratives added since the last update, making a total of 9,072. Altogether this year over 500+ new detailed narratives are now available on the website.

Descendants of Daniel and Sarah Paske née Kendall

A new chart has been created:
Chart 56: Daniel Paske, born 1776 Moulton Suffolk

Daniel Paske married Sarah Kendall (date and place not known) and they lived in Moulton, Suffolk. This is only a very small chart, and includes mainly information on their daughter Maria Paske, who married Samuel Everett, or Evered, and moved to East Harling Norfolk. They had at least seven children, many of whom moved to Yorkshire, and became Post Office workers, and teachers.

A visit to the Suffolk archives, to view the Moulton registers is required to trace Daniel's ancestors, and hopefully link him to John and Mirabel Pask née Sparrow.

William Paske was married Ann Elmer on 27 December 1814 in St. Mary's, Bury St. Edmunds. He was a Boot Maker. The family moved to London. This is only a very small chart, and hopefully in the future, we can link him to John & Mirabel Sparrow. Many thanks to Rod Kerr for his information on this family.

There are 78 new narratives added since the last update, making a total of 8,934 detailed narratives now available on the website - although there are now 13,398 people in our database, that includes living people.

New DNA Test Results

Great news relating to the DNA Project:

This information relates to the Lincolnshire tree Chart 18: Joseph (1761-1831) and Ann Pask née Hand, who lived in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

As reported in the previous blog DNA Project in July. We hoped this test would establish whether the Lincolnshire Pasks from Charts 01, 03, and 18 are all related.We are delighted to say that they are. The 278 people from Chart 18 will now be merged with Chart 1, making a total of 1365 in this family tree.

Once we established that there was a connection, it confirmed that Joseph Pask, who lived in Caythorpe was the same Joseph Paske who was baptised on 4 April 1762 in Wellingore, Lincolnshire. He was the son of William and Mary PASKE. These records will be merged in the next website update.

The results can be seen on the Family Tree DNA website in the Pask DNA Project.

Thank you all concerned for taking part in the project. We welcome any male Pa(r)s(k)(e)(que) to participate in the Pask DNA Project - do contact us for further details. This is a major contribution to the Pask One-Name Study.

Terence Pask contacted us in early July, and kindly provided photographs of Frederick Pask, the son of Joseph & Caroline Pask née Bowyer, and his son Frederick Thomas & Ann Laughton Pask née Friend (Terry's grandparents).

Also he provided the birth, marriage, and death certificates of his parents, and grandparents.

Peter Ritchie wrote to us in May, and provided additional information on the family of James & Frances Horton née Pask, the daughter of John & Frances Pask née Haffinden from Thundersley, Essex.

James and Frances immigrated from Southampton on the "Parsee", arriving in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 14 May 1858. Peter kindly provided the passenger list that shows they travelled together with their children William, David, Frances, Charles, Ellen, Frank, and Clara.

DNA Project

Great news relating to the DNA Project:

This information relates to the Essex tree - descendants of Harry and Norah Pask née Cannon - Chart 53: Harry PASK, (1867- ) wife Norah CANNON, who lived in Buckhurst Hill, Essex.

DNA Test results have just arrived from a descendant of Harry and Norah Pask née Cannon. They match with the DNA from descendants of Peter Pask of Kedington, Suffolk - See Chart 06. We will now focus on trying to find documentary evidence to support this link so that we can merge these two charts.

This information relates to the Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Joseph and Ann Pask née Hand - Chart 18: Joseph (1761-1831) and Ann Pask née Hand, who lived in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

Fortunately we have recently been in touch with the family of a Nonagenarian who will very shortly be 100 years old. He agreed to do a DNA test. It is now being tested at Family Tree DNA in Houston, Texas. Results are expected in approximately four weeks' time, starting 19 August. We hope this will establish whether the Lincolnshire Pasks from Charts 01, 03, and 18 are all related.

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John and Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, in particular the descendants of their son John, and his wife Katherine Kippin.

In December 2010, we appealed for someone to do a DNA test, from one of the descendants of Chart 02 - John and Mirabel Pask née Sparrow's son John, who married Catherine Kippen, to establish and confirm that this is the DNA string for the main Suffolk tree. We are delighted to say that someone has completed the test and it is now been sent to Family Tree DNA in Houston, Texas. Results are expected in approximately six weeks' time.

The results can be seen on the Family Tree DNA website in the Pask DNA Project.

The website was updated on Monday 4 April 2011.

There are three new family groups, two in Essex, and one in Suffolk:

Chart 53: Harry PASK, (1867- ) wife Norah CANNON, lived in Buckhurst Hill, Essex Harry was born in 1867, his place of birth is currently not known. He lived in Buckhurst Hill in Essex and was a Gardener. He married Norah CANNON on 8 May 1887, and they had three sons. Very little is known about this family. Harry was not found in any censuses, and no death is found in the GRO Indexes. Similarly only information on his son Albert Ernest has been found.

I have purchased birth, and marriage certificates for this family in order to piece together this family. Unfortunately they had three children who were in Epping Workhouse in the 1911 census, and their two older sons in the 1901 census. I am still trying to establish where Harry originated. Epping registration district is very close to the Essex/Suffolk border, and I believe that he may be part of Chart 06, or Chart 07.

Chart 54: William PASK, (1662- ) lived in Stambourne, Essex
William lived in Stambourne Essex, where his son was born, Very little is known about this family.

Chart 06a: John PASK, (1798-1861) wife Sarah MEERS, lived in Stoke by Clare, Suffolk
John PASK lived in Stoke by Clare. He married Sarah MEERS on 2 January 1820 in Stoke by Clare. John died in April 1861. Their descendants span five generations, and includes over 50 descendants. This family is assumed to be connected to Peter Pask of Chart 6. However, John's baptism has not been found.

New DNA Test Results

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, in particular the descendants of their second son Daniel, and his wives Elizabeth Pask née Manning, and Mary Pask née Peachey.

A new DNA test result (kit number 192294) has arrived for a descendant of Daniel & Elizabeth Pask née Manning. This matches with the results (kit number 125478) received two years ago from another descendant. The two testers are 5th cousins once removed. So this is very positive news.

We really need another test completed on one of the descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow's other son John, who married Catherine Kippen, to establish and confirm that this is the DNA string for the main Suffolk tree.

This information relates to descendants of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

A couple of weeks ago you may recall we were in contact with twins John David Pask, and David John Pask, whose parents were both Pasks, second cousins Harold "Charlie" William Pask, and Doris Joan Pask. See blog titled Descendants of Albert & Ann Pask née Reeves.

Suprisingly, a few days later we heard from Debbie Pask, whose grandparents were also both Pasks, cousins John James Pask & Elsie Pask.

It is very difficult to determine whether the children with the mother's name of Pask belongs to a family, or that they were born illegitimately to a Pask female. Based on information from Debbie, we have been able to identify eight children:

This gave us some great leads, and this family has now expanded considerably. Many thanks to Debbie for these missing links.

Descendants of John Frederick & Fanny Pask née Melbourn

This information relates to Chart 18 , Joseph Pask, (1761 - 1831) who lived in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

Last week we received information from George Buckberry, who has traced his family back to Robert Buckberry, who was born in c1490. Ellen Buckberry married John Frederick Pask, also known as Frederick Andrews, and John Frederick Andrews.

John's first wife was Fanny Melbourn, they married in Sleaford in 1888. They had three children:

John William Pask (1889-1968)
Charles Henry Pask (25 Nov 1891-1969)
James Melbourn Pask (1894-13 Oct 1915)

Fanny died in 1894 and was buried on 10 November 1894 in St. Andrew's, Cranwell, Lincolnshire. John later married Ellen Buckberry on 17 June 1902 in St. Andrews, Leasingham, Lincolnshire.

As we had not researched this family for some time, together with George's assistance we found a lot more information.

John's mother Harriet Pask married James Andrews in 1869, and they had 10 children. Interestingly, one of John's half-sisters was Mary Andrews who married John Melbourn in 1897 in the Sleaford registration district. It is very likely that John Melbourn and Fanny Melbourn were siblings, who married siblings John Pask and Mary Andrews.

Descendants of Albert & Ann Pask née Reeves

Doris Joan Pask (1914-2010) 1931 aged 17

Earlier this week we had the pleasure, and privilege to meet twin brothers David & John Pask, whose mother was Doris Joan Pask, who sadly died earlier this year. Doris married her second cousin Harold (Charlie) William Pask.

John had contacted us in September, and unraveled quite a lot of information. Previously it was not known whether Harold & Doris had any children as it was very difficult to say, as there are numerous births with the mother’s maiden name of Pask. Subsequently, we now have a further two generations on the Suffolk chart 02-2.

Fortunately John had found 32 photographs in his mother's possessions, including several of his grandparents Albert & Ann Pask née Reeves, and their children.

We have scanned the documents and included them in the photograph album John David Pask.

This information relates to Chart 39 - Thomas PASK, (1766-b1851) who lived in St. Pancras.

Yesterday we received an e-mail from Clare J. Pask, who is the 4 x great-granddaughter of Thomas Pask. and granddaughter of Lawrence Bernard & Victoria Lille Pask née Kirkland.

She has provided information that will be included in chart 39 in the next website update. In addition, we will add some more information on this family, based on the 1911 census.

Descendants of Simeon Henry Philip & Lily Ethel Pask née Smith

Yesterday we heard from Claire Burnip née Pask, she is the grand-daughter of Simeon Henry Philip Pask. Claire writes about fond memories of her grandfather:

I always remember my dear grandfather Simeon Henry Philip had a love of horses and discovered during my research that his father Simeon David & his uncle Oliver Pask once owned a taxi firm in Windsor, Eton with horse & carriages.

My Grandfather following the family tradition worked as head gardener to a Mr Clark who was then the Managing Director of His Master's Voice (HMV Records). Mr & Mrs Clark did not have any children but always had Jack Russell dogs as pets. Rather ironic as the famous HMV logo consisted of a Jack Russell sitting beside and peering into a gramophone. My grandfathers brother William also worked alongside him as a gardener at the Clarks country home Black Firs, Fulmer Bucks. Every year the gardens surrounded by woodland famous for its beautiful display of rhododendrons would be opened to the general public. A marquee would be set up on the main lawn and my siblings and I would help the kitchen staff serve teas and homemade cakes. Happy days!!!

Whilst the collection covers 80 years from 1861 to 1941, there are some gaps for the years 1863, 1868, 1873, 1876, 1877, 1883, 1888, 1899-1903 and 1910-1911.The records were created by the Probate Registry, that was established in London in January 1858, and several district probate registries were created around the country.

We searched these indexes for Pask, Paske, and Pasque, and found the following information:

The Calendar is separated into a different volume for each year. The entries in each volume are in alphabetical order by surname. Information varies across different entries, but typically includes:

Australian Births, Marriages, and Deaths

This week Ancestry announced that the availability of the Australia Birth, Marriage, and Death Index:

Australia Birth Index, 1788-1922 Australia Marriage Index, 1788-1949 Australia Death Index, 1787-1985

These indexes include the Australian registrar's offices after civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths became law in the mid 19th century. Also church records that predate civil registration.

We searched these indexes for Pask, Paske, and Pasque, and found the following information:

Harry Percy Pask (1904-1954)

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

Recently Jo Pask from Suffolk forwarded a photograph, kindly provided by Edna Yvonne Copus. Edna's parents were friends of Harry & Alba Pask née Voss. The photograph was taken at a Masonic Ladies' Night c1950s.

Left to right - Mrs Briggs, Mr Briggs, Bert (Harry Pask's brother-in-law), Gladys (Harry Pask's sister-in-law), Alba (Harry's wife), Harry Pask, family friend, and Harry Pask's father-in-law.

Harry Percy Pask was the son of George Stephen & Lavinia Pask née Dawson, and great-grandson of Oliver & Sophia Pask née Suttle. He was born in Acton in 1904, and sadly died at the age of 50. In 1929 he married Mabel Voss. I assume that she did not like the name Mabel, and called herself Alba. They had two sons:

Michael J. Pask who died in infancy in 1932.
Brian G. Pask who was born in 1934, and also died at the young age of 45.

Family Finder DNA Results

This information relates to Chart 01, the descendants of William Paske, (c1695- ) who lived in Wellingore, Lincolnshire.

Yesterday Stuart received the results of his Family Finder DNA Test. This autosomal test matches with any cousin within five generations.

The FamilyTree DNA website explains:

The Family Finder test is designed to trace all of your ancestral lines (all 16 of your great-great grandparents) using your autosomal DNA in order to confidently identify relationships for five generations. This is different from our mtDNA and Y–chromosome DNA tests, which are intended to clearly trace exclusively the direct maternal or paternal lines.

While a Surname Project seeks to document the Y–chromosome DNA of males with a common surname, a Family Finder Project is focused on tracing the DNA of all descendants of a single ancestor or a single ancestral couple.

Stuart matched 11 people - all unknown. Unsure quite what this meant, I wrote to our friend Debbie Kennett, who is very experienced and knowledgeable on the subject of DNA. She replied:

I think with the Family Finder we are all going to end up with an awful lot of matches. We're matching on all lines, and we're nearly all descended from the same few million people who lived in the British Isles in the 1600s. Don't forget too that with the Y-DNA Stuart is quite a rare R1a haplogroup. With R1b12 and I1 people can sometimes have hundreds of matches, at least at 12-markers.

The Family Finder is going to be something of a long-term investment but it's quite exciting to see it from the beginning ..

Chart 19 merged with Chart 01 - DNA Evidence

This information relates to Chart 19, the descendants of William Paske, (c1695- ) who lived in Wellingore, Lincolnshire.
This information relates to one of the Lincolnshire main families - John Pask (1760-1826), and Alice Woodcock (Stuart's own ancestors) who lived in Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

Yesterday we received the 67-marker DNA test results for John Henry Pask and Stuart. The e-mail read:

You matched 63 out of 67 loci. This means that there is a 99% likelihood you share a common ancestor in a genealogical time frame.

On this basis, we looked again at John & Stuart's trees. John (Chart 19) has traced his family back to William & Susanna PASKE, who lived in Wellingore Lincolnshire in the 1720s. Stuart (Chart 01) has traced his family back to John Pask (1760-1826) of Great Gonerby, Lincolnshire.

In 2005, one of our longstanding researchers Eileen Flynn wrote: "As I looked through the Great Gonerby transcript and saw again the burial of Thomas Pask who was crushed by a wheel, 8 May 1829, aged 65 years, I felt strongly again that he could well be the Thomas Pask who was baptised in 1764 at Wellingore and that his brother John, baptised in 1755 at Wellingore, is our John. I know John's age at death was given as 66 in 1826, but we know how unreliable given death ages can be. It is interesting that at the time Pasks are moving away from Wellingore and disappearing from the records, our John and Alice are getting married at Wilsford just 8-9 miles south of Wellingore, and after having William at Ancaster, move south about 8 miles into Great Gonerby, presumably for better job prospects. We'll probably never be able to find out for sure, but it's interesting to imagine."

We think that Eileen's assumptions linked now with the DNA evidence confirms that John (1755- ) of Wellingore, and John (1760-1826) of Great Gonerby are the same person, and that his brother Thomas (1764- ) of Wellingore and Thomas (1767-1829) of Great Gonerby are the same person.

On this basis, John is Stuart's 6th cousin, once removed.

Subsequently Chart 19 has been merged with Chart 01. There are now 1010 people in Chart 01 spanning 11 generations. This will be reflected in the next website update.

Charles & Esther Paske née Edwards of Monmouthshire

This information relates to Chart 49: Charles PASK (1760-1833) who lived in Dingestow, and Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire #8663. Charles married Esther EDWARDS in 1789. Their descendants span six generations.

Last Monday, Barbara Griffiths who also belongs to the Guild of One-Name Studies, and is studying the name of PARRY contacted me and wrote:

One of the researchers on the Monmouthshire List has just mentioned some photographs he took in 2008 of tombstones at Cwmcarvan & Trelleck. I notice that there are two Pask, husband and wife Charles & Esther.

Subsequently, I contacted Paul Berndt, who lives in Port Clinton, Ohilo on Sandusky Bay just off Lake Erie. Paul visited the churchyard on May 24, 2008. He took the photographs for a couple - he doesn't have their names, that were at the cemetery the same day. They said that they were involved in a large Pask(e) group.

He very kindly sent us eight photographs of the grave. These are now available in the web album Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire.

Charles was born in 1760 in Monmouthshire - the actual place and his parents are not known. Charles married Esther Edwards on 27 May 1789 in Llanishen, Monmouthshire. His wife, Esther, was buried on 16 April 1821 in St. Catwyg, Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire. Charles was buried on 11 January 1833 also in St. Catwyg, Cwmcarvan, Monmouthshire.

Their grave is inscribed:

Sacred to the Memory of Esther wife of Charles Paske of the parish of Dingestow who died 15 April 1821 aged 54 years

Also To the Memory of Charles Paske Widower of the aforesaid who departed this life 8th day of Jan A.D. 1833 aged 73.

Descendants of Joshua & Jane Rebecca Pask née Harley

This information relates to Chart 10, the descendants of John & Frances Pask née Haffinden who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

Yesterday Sue Keefe, one of our long standing Pask researchers provided the 1904 marriage certificate for Rose Pask, also known as Rose Smith. She married Alfred William White on 7 November 1904 in The Parish Church, Old Ford, London.

Sue also provided the 1911 census information, this together with later birth registrations with the mother's maiden name of Pask, shows that Alfred & Rose had five children:

Ivy White b. 1907 in Bethnal Green
Alfred White b. 1909 in Leyton Essex
Walter W. White b. 1914 in the West Ham registration district
Doris B. White b. 1916 in the West Ham registration district

In the census of 2 April 1911, Alfred & Rose and their three oldest children were living at 78 Stewart Road Leyton, he was a Commercial Clerk.

Descendants of Augustine Thomas & Jane Pask née Parry

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Whilst including one of the tributes from the website Lasting Tribute, we identified that Jeffery Pask (1938-2009) from Swansea was the son of William Henry & Margaret Pask née Millman. However we did not know who his father William's parents were.

After checking in the 1911 census, it was realised that his parents were Augustine Thomas & Jane Pask née Parry. William Henry, and his brother Augustine Clifford (known as Clifford), were living in Nantyffyllon Glamorganshire, with their widowed mother Jane Thomas née Parry, and half-brothers Fredy, Robert, and Ivor Thomas. After the death of their father Augustine in 1896 she had married Frederick William Thomas.

William's father Augustine had died at the early age of 32. He was employed as a Carpenter at the New Post Office, Westgate Street, Cardiff. On the 21 December 1895 by some means the scaffolding gave way and he fell to the floor across some girders. He was picked up unconscious and conveyed to the infirmary where he died from the injuries received at 7am on the 12 January 1896.

This links William Henry to the main Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske.

Australia's Largest Online Memorial

Recently, through the Guild of One-Name Studies, I heard about the Heaven Address website - Australia's Largest Online Memorial. This website provides obituaries, funeral notifications, and burial records for Australia, and New Zealand.

The 9 Pask(e) records found were predominately from Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Sydney Delhi and Plassey Roads, North Ryde, NSW Australia. In some circumstances they covered over members of their families. These included:

Irene Emily Pask née Starr died 1982 (wife of Francis)
Walter Otto Paul Paske died 1984
Hildegard Freda Paske died 2004 (wife of Walter)
Colin Leonard Pask died 2007

This information relates to the descendants of James (1818-1882) & Mary Pask née Crocks, who lived in Shoreditch, London.

This week Clare Marshall contacted us regarding her grandmother Mary Isabella Pask, who was born in 1872 in Gloucester, Gloucestershire. She was the daughter of John Joseph & Mary Pask née Lee. Mary married William Henry Maguire on 20 March 1893 in St. Ann's, Tottenham, Middlesex. William, known as Henry, had the unusual occupation of a Whalebone Cutter. He was later an Insurance Agent, and an Alderman of the City of London.

Chart 25 merged with Chart 02-2

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, in particular the descendants of their second son Daniel, and his wives Elizabeth Pask née Manning, and Mary Pask née Peachey.

Earlier this week, we received an inquiry from Jon Bearman, who is researching a Nathaniel Kevan, who was born in 1823, and whether he is related to the Nathaniel Kevan we have.

Upon investigation, we established that Nathaniel Kevan married two Pask sisters - Phoebe [Phebe] on 28 June 1819, and then Elizabeth on 19 June 1828. Both sisters were mentioned in their father Oliver Pask's will dated 11 November 1825, of which Nathaniel was an Executor.

When trying to decipher this 7 page will, which is extremely difficult to read, we identified:

I bequeath to my brother Petchy Pask of Bury Saint Edmonds Suffolk the sum of ten pounds I give and bequeath to my brother James Pask of this same place ten pounds I give and bequeath unto my nephew John Dorling and Daniel Dorling the sum of ten pounds ...

We can now confirm that Petchy, James, and Oliver were all children of Daniel Pask (1711-1763). In addition, we found that Mary Pask was also the daughter of Daniel, and the mother of John & Daniel Dorling.

This means that siblings Oliver, and Mary, previously unassigned to a family chart are now part of Chart 02-2. Also that James the progenitor of chart 25, is now also assigned to Chart 02-2.

George & Sarah Ann Pask née Newton

This information relates to Chart 18 , Joseph Pask, (1761 - 1831) who lived in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire.

Yesterday we received a transcript of the marriage of George Pask and Sarah Ann Newton that took place on 18 August 1896 in the parish of Colyton, Devon. George was residing at the time in Belper Derbyshire. He was a Foreman Platelayer at that time, so inevitably his job on the railway must have taken him to Devon.

I have managed to find them in the 1901 census living in Belper, and then in the 1911 census in Romiley, Cheshire. They had three children Lily (1897-1994), Ida Lucy (1899-1997), and George (1906-1974).

George & Sarah finally lived in the Coalville registration district, where they both reached their nineties. Sarah died in 1952, and George in 1967 after 56 years of marriage.

The marriage transcript was kindly provided by Des Gander as a result of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Marriage Challenge for Axminster registration district. The Marriage Challenge is a Guild Project in which volunteers (Challengers) search for marriage entries in the deposited Parish Registers for a particular Registration District (RD) for the period 1837 to 1911.

Chart 51 - Descendants of Joseph & Mary Pask

This information relates to Chart 51, the descendants of John & Mary Pask who lived in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in the 1840-1860s.

A new chart will be available in the next update - Chart 51. Whilst this is a small chart, it contains seven generations. We have compiled it in the hope of identifying where Joseph originated from, and his link to one of the major trees.

From the 1851 census for Hooks Drove, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, Joseph was listed as aged 65 born in Thorney, the Head of Household. He was living together with his wife Mary, who was born in Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire. She died in 1853 in the Wisbech registration district, and Joseph died in 1859.

We are trying to establish when they married (c1825), and what Mary's maiden name was.

Their only son John married Emily Liquorice on 17 July 1861 in St. Mary, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. John & Emily have currently 14 known descendants.

Joshua & Jane Rebecca Pask née Harley

This information relates to Chart 10, the descendants of John & Frances Pask née Haffinden who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

I am still progressing with the London Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 database available at http://www.ancestry.co.uk/. I have now found the baptisms for 11 of the 16 children of Joshua & Jane Rebecca Pask née Harley.

In the census of 2 April 1911, Joshua & Jane were living at Braemar Street, Bethnal Green, together with seven of their children Lillian, Clara, James, Ada, Lena, Arthur, and Alfred William Charles.

Fortunately the baptisms give the date of baptisms, and births, together with where the family lived, and Joshua's occupation. The 11 baptisms are for:

Charles & Filomela Pask née Gabrielli

This information relates to Chart 19, the descendants of William Paske, (c1695- ) who lived in Wellingore, Lincolnshire.

Back in June 2006, we established together with our long standing friend and fellow researcher, John Pask, that his great-grandfather Charles Pask (1856-1939) immigrated to New York, America. See blog titled Charles Pask.

Last week whilst searching our GRO death index transcripts for an infant's death in Chelsea, I came across the death of a Mina Gabrielli in 1887/Q3, age 0. The name Gabrielli jumped out. I recalled that Charles had married a Filomela Garbielli. I searched for corresponding birth, and found it. I hastily e-mailed John.

Subsequently John purchased the birth, and death certificate for Mina. It confirmed that her parents were Charles & Filomela Pask née Gabrielli.

Mina was born on 1 July 1887 at 27 South Parade, Chelsea. Sadly she died at the age of 6 weeks, on 15 August 1887 also at 27 South Parade, Chelsea.

John followed up and telephoned the surrounding cemeteries, and located Mina's burial at Brompton Cemetery on 19 August 1887 in Plot 137807. Unfortunately the cemetery was damaged during the World War II, and although the graves are still in tack any headstones did not survive.

Yet another piece of the jigsaw put in place. This now establishes that Charles & Filomela met at 1885-1886, and did not immigrate to America until at least late 1887.

Walter & Rosetta Pask née Rixon

This information relates to Chart 7, the descendants of Henry Paske, (1765 - 1845), who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

I have been continuing on working with the London Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 database available at http://www.ancestry.co.uk/. I managed to find the baptisms for 11 of Walter & Rosetta Pask née Rixon's children.

In the census of 2 April 1911 Walter & Rosetta were living at 8 Florida Terrace, Florida Street, Bethnal Green, together with their children George, Alfred, Rosetta, William, Charles, Lily, Doris, and Arthur. Rosetta stated that she had been married 25 years and had 15 children - 9 living and 6 dead.

Fortunately the baptisms give the date of baptisms, and births, together with where the family lived, and Walter's occupation. The 11 baptisms are for:

Walter John Pask Baptism Date: 19 Sep 1886 Father's Name: Walter Pask Mother's Name: Rosetta Pask Parish: St Thomas, Bethnal Green; Abode: 164 Columbia Square, a Printer: Born 26 August 1886.

Thomas Edward Pask Baptism Date: 3 May 1891 Father's Name: Walter Pask Mother's Name: Rosetta Pask Parish: St Thomas, Bethnal Green; Abode: 129 Columbia Square, a Printer; Born: 12 April 1891 - This was a child not previously identified. Thomas died in infancy in 1892.

Lily Pask Baptism Date: 13 Sep 1905 Father's Name: Walter Pask Mother's Name: Rosetta Pask Parish: St James the Great, Bethnal Green; Abode: 302 Wilmot Street, a Labourer; Born 27 August 1901.

Other children not listed are Doris Lucy (born 1905), and Arthur J. (1910-1913). Based on the fact that she had 6 children dead in 1911, it is also assumed that twins Frederick, and Henry (1888-1888) are also Walter & Rosetta's children. However Adelaide (1898-1899), who was previously assumed to be their daughter is now unlikely to be attached to this family.

New Web Photograph Album - Yvonne Sumner

This information relates to Chart 39 - Thomas PASK, (1766-b1851) who lived in St. Pancras.

Over the past year we have been working together with Yvonne Sumner from Australia. She has provided extensive information on Walter & Jane Annie Pask née Chester, and their descendants.

This was a very interesting, albeit a sad story. Walter married Jane Annie Chester on 21 May 1898 in Gateshead. Unfortunately Walter was killed in a railway accident on 18 July 1908, leaving Jane a widow with 4 children, the youngest George being only a few months old. With no means of support Jane gave the 2 middle boys, Arthur and Walter, to her mother-in-law Mary Ann. She kept Laura the eldest and the baby George.

Jane's mother-in-law, Mary Ann Pask née Ruddock emigrated to Melbourne Australia in 1912, together with her daughters Nellie, and Kate, and taking with her grandsons Arthur and Walter. Jane wrote to her mother-in-law begging for Arthur and Walter to be returned to her as she was getting married again and her circumstances were much better. Evidently Jane was horrified that they were going to Australia and was allowed to see them only a few days before they left.

Arthur, Yvonne's father, was very talented. He played the cello in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, he was an accountant, and also the Team Manager for the Australian Archers in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.

Yvonne has provided over 30 photographs. These have now been included in a web photograph album.

In 2007 Judy Crust wrote to us, and provided several photographs of the descendants of William Alfred Pask, see the previous blog titled William Alfred & Anna Sarah Pask née Rowe. Judy's Great Grandfather Francis Bartram was the brother of William Bartram who married Alice Maria Pask, the daughter of William Alfred II & Elizabeth Pask née Ellis. He immigrated to Australia, and came back to England for a visit in 1936/37 .

Frank William Pask (1874-1928)

This information relates to Chart 7, the descendants of Henry Paske, (1765 - 1845), who lived in Kedington, Suffolk.

Last week, our friend and family historian Marion Hopkins contacted us. She had found the baptism of Frank William Pask in St. James The Great, Bethnal Green.

I found that Frank was the son of George & Mary Ann Pask née Bettoney. His mother died when he was 2 years old, and probably he was institutionalized as he was not listed with his father in the 1881 census.

However I did locate him in the 1891 census. He was on an Institution Ship "Shaftesbury", harboured off Grays Essex. This ship was an Industral School Training Ship under the management of the School Board for London. It states on the census return a list of boys that were "Under legal detention to the age of 16 years according to Industrial Schools Acts of 1866 and subsequent acts".

Frank was listed as a Shoeblack in the 1901 & 1911 census. He married Elizabeth Gray on 5 August 1901 at St. Anne's Church, Hoxton, Shoreditch. No children from the marriage were identified. Frank died in 1928, and his wife Elizabeth probably in 1951.

Descendants of John & Annie Pask née Abbott

This information relates to the main Lincolnshire tree - descendants of Johannis [John] & Elizabeth Pask née Archer, who lived in Lincolnshire.

Recently we have been focusing our research on Leicestershire, and linking together families who lived there in the 1900-1930s - in particular Blaby, Lutterworth and Leicester registration districts.

Subsequently we have established that most of them link back to John & Annie Pask née Abbott. John orginated from Nocton Lincolnshire, and was the third son of Henry & Elizabeth Pask née Asman. We originally researched this family back in 2004, and with recent available records like the 1911 census we have been able to put together quite a lot of additional information.

John married Annie Abbott on 17 November 1891 in the Lutterworth registration district. They had 11 children. In the 1911 census he was a Shepherd, living with his wife Annie, and his children John, Frank, Edith, Alfred, Ethel, Edward, Richard, and Frederick. So this valuable information provided the connection between those children born between 1901 and 1913.

We also purchased two GRO certificates to help us establish a connection:

Birth of Ivan Michael Pask in 1937
Marriage of Arthur C. Pask & Jessie M. Tomlinson in 1927

The GRO reference for Ivan, who was later known as Michael Ivan, gave his mother's maiden as Ellis. However we could not locate his parent's marriage. The birth certificate gave that he was born 20 May 1937, and he was the son of Edward & Annie Elizabeth Pask née Ellis formerly Baker. Based on this we easily found their marriage in 1936 in the Spilsby, Lincolnshire registration district. Edward was the fifth son of John & Annie Pask née Abbott.

The marriage gave the name of Arthur Charles, however this is probably an error in the transcription from the church marriage register to the civil registration certificate. Arthur was actually called Alfred Charles Pask, he was the fourth son of John & Annie Pask née Abbott.

We have now included in our database all 1837-1984 birth, marriages, and deaths in the Blaby, Lutterworth and Leicester registration districts. Wherever practicable we have researched the families through to current day. These will be included in Chart 03 in the next website update.

PASK Hunting Horn

We received an e-mail from Patrick Button, who lives in Durban, South Africa.

He wrote:

I have in my possession a hunting horn from a great uncle in England, who was a huntsman. The horn is stamped Pask Maker London and I have now been able to identify and date it.

... in case you are aghast at its battered condition please be reminded that it appears to have been a real working tool for many years (!)

Patrick also provided a picture of his great-grandfather Huntsman Thomas Leonard Imms (1839 -1928) who used the Pask Maker London hunting horn at Clandon Park and Merrow, Surrey.

Thomas Leonard Imms was also Huntsman with the Norfolk Stag Hounds as well as the Brighton and Knaphill Harriers. He is said to have hunted with the then Prince of Wales, Edward, who frequented Clandon Park and Merrow.

Patrick provided more information on the possible dates:

I have listed three names & dates of successive IMMS huntsman to the Earls of Onslow, who lived at Clandon Park near Guildford, Surrey.

James Imms 1773 or 1774 - 1846
Thomas Leonard Imms 1811-1879
Thomas Leonard Imms 1839-1928**

The latter was my great grandfather** and it was from him that the Pask Maker hunting horn is supposed to have come. Assuming that the dates of the Pask company span from 1840-1871, it seems that this horn may have been acquired and used by Thomas Leonard Imms (1811-1879) and passed down in the family.

This photo is from another similar horn. However Patrick's horn does not have the "& Koenig" part of the stamping, the rest, including the British coat of arms is the same, even the font is identical.

If anyone has any additional information about the PASK company, we would be very interested, and will pass it on to Patrick.

Trip to Paschendale

Last Friday, and Saturday we took a trip to visit some of the Commonwealth War Graves in France and Belgium. Our travelling companion was John who had never been to visit any graves, so our focus was on those people he is researching.

Initially we visited Flesquieres Hill British Cemetery in France, where John's great uncle Stanley George Bird is buried.

Our next stop was Pheasant Wood near Fromelles in northern France to see the site of the new Commonwealth War Grave cemetery where experts during a major archaeological dig found the remains of 250 World War I soldiers.

We then travelled into Belgium to see Hype Park Corner, and the Berks Cemetery Extension, for the Ploegsteert Memorial. We then drove to Ypres (Ieper) and visited the In Flanders Field museum. In the evening we attended the Menin Gate Last Post, where we witnessed a very poignant ceremony which included an address by the New Zealand High Commissioner followed by a Maori lament during the wreath laying, and a piper from the Black Watch.

On Saturday, we visited Tyne Cot Memorial, and the newly opened visitor's centre. This museum is stark, and minimalistic. However the accompanying voice of a young girl reading the names, and ages of those who gave their lives leaves a very lasting impression.

Finally we visited the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, near Poperinge.

A very interesting trip. We have included all our photographs in an album, and slideshow.

Marriage Certificate for Bertie & Ella Kate Pask née Sargent

This information relates to Bertie Pask who lived in the Colchester / Newmarket area in the early 1900s.

We have now received the marriage certificate for Bertie & Ella Kate Pask née Sargent as detailed in a previous blog.

It shows that Bertie was residing at Little Saxham, Suffolk and that his father was George Pask. As suspected, Bertie is Bertie Arthur Pask who was born in 1887 in Stowlangtoft, Suffolk.

The records for Bertie will be merged, and chart 50 will be merged with Chart 02-2: Daniel Pask, second son of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow #5329. This will be included in the next website update.

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

Whilst researching the family of Bertie & Ella Kate Pask née Sargent (see previous blog), I looked at all Pask(e) births, marriages, and deaths and 1911 census in the Colchester / Newmarket registration districts. I identified the family of Ernest George & Rose Pask. Initially I could not find their marriage, then realised that Ernest was also known George Ernest. He was in fact duplicated in our database.

We originally included him in 2004, as we visited his grave in the Military Cemetery, in Roclincourt, Pas-de-Calais, France. We were intrigued as although he was 50 years old, he was at that time a Sergeant, in the Army Veterinary Corps, 170th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. We found that he had died in a riding accident during military sports on 5 June 1917. He left a widow and three children.

After his death, his widow Rose married his widowed brother John William Pask.

Descendants of Bertie & Ella Kate Pask née Sargent

This information relates to Bertie Pask who lived in the Colchester / Newmarket area in the early 1900s.

We were contacted by Christopher Pask in December last year inquiring about his Colchester descendants. We were able to trace him back to Bertie Pask, who lived in the Newmarket area. When we acquired the 1911 census images recently we contacted him and provided the census information for Ella Kate Pask née Sargent, and her twins Frederick Bert and Rosa Evelyn. They were inmates in the Newmarket Union Workhouse, Exning Road, Newmarket, Cambridgeshire.

Unfortunately no additional information has been found on Bertie & Ella, however the marriage certificate has now been purchased. In the meantime, based on the information provided by Christopher, Chart 50 has been compiled showing their descendants, who span four generations.

Many thanks to Christopher for providing us with the information. Hopefully in the near future we will be able to link this family to one of the main Suffolk families.

In May, we exchanged information with Raymond Pask of Australia - see the blog titled
Descendants of James & Charlotte Mary Pask née Chaffin. Raymond kindly agreed to do a DNA test. When his results came back they matched exactly with another Pask, also living in Australia. Raymond did not know of his existance.

A fortnight ago Raymond, together with his brother Edward met Colin Pask, and his sister. They established that their grandparents Henry James Pask, and Arthur Pask were brothers. The family had immigrated to Australia in the late 1890s.

Yesterday we had an e-mail from Kai Davey the grandson of Laura Irene Pask. "Nene" as she was always known as, was the daughter of of Frederick William & Ellen Maud Pask née Phillips. She married Frank Morley and they ran Hargrave village Post Office and store. Kai writes:

She lived her whole life in Hargrave pre-retirement at the Village Post Office and adjoining house and post retirement just over the road at Orchard End next to the Methodist Church.

Kai has provided the above photograph, and some corrections to Nene's narrative. These have been included in the database, and will be available in the next website update.

This information relates to Suffolk Chart 26, the descendants of Thomas Pask who was born in 1777 in Brockley, Suffolk.

Some time ago Roger Pask contacted us regarding his ancestors Arthur Ernest & Lillian Pask née Church. At that time we did some research, but did not include the information into our database.

Arthur originated from Rattlesden, Suffolk and was the son of Henry & Anne Sophia Pask née White, who ran the Rising Sun at Rattlesden. Arthur served in the Army before, and during World War I as an Ambulance Driver. However his trade was a Baker.

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

Last week we had an e-mail from Stephen Daglish, a fellow Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONs) member. He noticed a Pask grave in South Ealing Cemetery. It read:

In loving memory of
Thomas Charles
son of Philip & Rosetta Pask
who died June 24th 1892
aged 12 years and 4 months

also of Rosetta Sophia Pask
sister of the above
who died July 6th 1903
in her 38th year

Alfred James Pask
who died May 19th 1907, aged 25 years

Philip & Rosetta Pask née Keen lived in Ealing Middlesex. Philip originated from Hargrave Suffolk, and was the son of Oliver & Sophia Pask née Suttle. He was the 2 x greatgrandson of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow.

We located them in the census of 2 April 1911 in 10 St. Matthews Road, Ealing, Middlesex. Philip was listed as aged 71 born in Hargrave Suffolk, the Head of Household; a Gardener, living with his wife Rosetta and daughter Melinda. Also listed was his daughter-in-law Lily (his son Joseph Philip's wife), and grandchildren Eric Joseph, and Winifred Lily.

Joseph his son was listed at 37 Caerleon Road, Newport, Monmouthshire, where he was listed as a Machine Foreman in the Printing Industry. His wife Lily May was his cousin, she was the daughter of Nathan Oliver & Susannah Pask née Philipps. Both his children Eric & Winifred were born in Newport.

Suprisingly only two people have matched - in Chart 03. However, a recent test of a descendant of Peter Pask (Chart 06) has matched with a Pask not currently in the Pask DNA Project. So we are hoping that another match will be listed in the near future.

We encourage male Pask, Paske, Parsk, and Pasque and the derivatives to take the 37-marker Y DNA test. To achieve maximum benefits we encourage 2-3 males from each family tree detailed on the Charts list to participate.

Descendants of Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw

This information relates to Chart 6 - Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

Over the weekend we had an e-mail from Helen Freeman, whose husband is a descendant of Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw. Their daughter Elsie Lucy Mary married John Henry Woodward (not John Steer as currently shown on the website).

Helen has provided their marriage certificate, and information from the 1911 census. This will be included in the database and available in the next website update.

Current Activities

To those who regularly look at the Pask website and the blog you may have noticed an absence of updates and blogs. This is two fold:

We are renovating the house at the moment. Building & decorating work is being carried out by Stuart until the end of October.
The project that I have been managing at work for the last 2+ years is just about to go-live. It will be a phased rollout to 60 countries from June to August. So it is an exceptionally busy period.

So unfortunately there are not enough hours in the day. However hopefully normal service will be resumed in the not too distant future.

Elizabeth Pask b1835 Raglan Monmouthshire

This information relates to Chart 34, the descendants of Philip Pask, (1768-1843), who lived in Bryngwyn, Monmouthshire.

Today we had a new inquiry from Ted Broadhurst, who is researching his 3 x great-grandmother Elizabeth Pask who was born in 1835 in Ragland Monmouthshire. She was the daughter of Phillip & Mary Pask née Morgan.

This family was extensively researched previously by Sylvia Rycroft. However there was no information found on Elizabeth.

Ted has informed us that Elizabeth married William Winyard in 1855 in Birmingham. William was a Saddler. They had seven children. Ted has now definitely filled in the gaps, by providing us with 25 pages of detailed information. He also has photographs and certifications.

Descendants of James & Charlotte Mary Pask née Chaffin

This information relates to Chart 6 - Peter & Catherine Pask née Frost, born 1739 in Kedington, Suffolk.

Last Friday we received an inquiry from Raymond Pask from Australia. He is researching his great-grandparents James & Charlotte Mary Pask née Chaffin. He writes:

"... one of their sons, Henry James Pask, who migrated to Australia in 1896, is my grandfather. He died in Melbourne in 1931. His parents, James and Charlotte, migrated to Australia in 1907. James died in 1914, while Charlotte died in 1911. All four (incl Henry James' wife, Isabella Smith) are buried together in Brighton Cemetery, Melbourne."

Following up on this lead, I searched the migration records on http://www.findmypast.com/. Although James was not correctly indexed, I found them actually departing from London on 14 April 1899 on the ship Oroya. They travelled together with their son Arthur. Also their daughter Mary Ann, and son-in-law James Walter Dean and their two children George, and Edith Mary Dean.

This solved two mysteries as previously we could not find the family in the 1901 census, and also could not establish who Mary Ann married.

Raymond is curious to find out what happened to two other sons William and James, and their families. He knows that they also emigrated to Australia, however currently cannot establish when it was. There is also a family bible with more names mentioned that aren't on our birth list from James and Charlotte.

This information will be included in the next website update. We look forward to exchanging more information with Ray, and hopefully establish a connection between the Suffolk Pask families in charts 04, and 06.

The Family History Event Sunday May 3

I am attending the Family History Event on Sunday May 3 at the Exhibition Hall 2, in the Barbican, London.

I will be on the computer help desk (Table 6) from 12:00 to 13:40, and from 15:20 to 17:00. If you are attending do let me know and we can perhaps arrange to have coffee.

The event looks to be very promising, with 15 lectures throughout the day, and over 90 exhibitors.

Betsy Pask's Sampler on eBay

Chris Bell wrote to us this evening. She is an ardent researcher, but is still looking for the elusive information on the birth/baptism and marriage of her great-grandparents William & Grace Isabella Pask née Solomon.

2009 Guild Publication Awards

This year we entered the Pask, Paske blog, and also the publication PASKs of Lincolnshire Volume I - Great Gonerby into the prestigious Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) Publication Awards. There were a record number of 106 entries, and the standard was exceptionally high.

We are very proud to announce this blog won 1st prize, and the book was highly commended. Needless to say, we are delighted with the results.

Family Gathering in Great Gonerby - August 1981

Descendants of Moses John & Cecilia Pask née Morgan

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

During the Easter we have exchanged information with Leslie Pask, who contacted us initially back in 2003. His grandfather was Amos John & Cecilia Pask née Morgan who lived in Pontypridd, Glamorgan.

Searching through our transcripts of the GRO births, marriages, and deaths we have been able to identify his wife Cecilia, their 8 children, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

These have been included in our database, and will be available in the next website update.

Peter Pask - Waterloo

Recently Stephen Pask of Australia was searching military records in Find My Past. He found a Pask who fought at Waterloo:

Private Peter Pask fought in Captain Wood's Light Infantry unit of the 1st Battalion 4th (King's Own) Regiment. This regiment has some ties to Yorkshire but does not necessarily mean this man came from there.

He was awarded the Waterloo Medal which was awarded to all ranks who fought in the battle.

We searched our records, and found 27 Peter Pasks in the database. However, only 1-2 likely. Based on the battle being on 18 June 1815, it could be:

Peter Pask born 1770 in Stoke by Clare, Suffolk - perhaps too old
Peter Pask born 1803 in Flempton cum Hargrave, Suffolk - probably too young

On the other hand it could be neither. Family stories like this would be passed down through the generations. We are in touch with descendants of both of the above families, and they are ardent researchers. They would be aware of this if it was their Peter Pask.

Lungley-Pask Families Certificates

Today we received another package from Sheila Bourne. As mentioned in the previous blog titled Lungley-Pask Families, Sheila is researching the brother and sister Herbert Arthur Pask and Ruth Pask, who married sister and brother Gladys Gertrude Lungley, and Lewis Herbert Lungley.

Sheila has kindly provided a further 19 certificates relating to these two families. These together with the previous certificates will be included in our database in the foreseeable future. We are again indebted to Sheila for sharing this information.

Publishing Your Family History to the Web

Early last year I gave a a half-day tutorial at the Society of Genealogists on Publishing Your Family History to the Web. See blog titled Publishing Your Family History to the Web.

Shortly afterwards I included the PowerPoint presentation on a website that hosts presentations, called www.slideshow.net. It's a free website that enables you to upload and share your PowerPoint presentations and Word documents.

Today they wrote to me and advised:

We've noticed that your slideshow on SlideShare has been getting a LOT of views
in the last 24 hours. Great job ... you must be doing something right. ;-)

Website Update 26 March 2009

The website was updated today, Thursday 26 March. This update focuses on the Lincoln registration district marriages so kindly provided by Marion Harper Hopkins as part of the Guild of One-Name Studies marriage challenge, as detailed in the December blog titled Lincoln Marriages.

All the 55 marriages have now been included in the database. The marriage transcripts from numerous Lincolnshire parish registers are available as downloads in the Sources of Information section of the relevant individual narratives.

We are looking forward to meeting Marion this weekend, as we are attending the Lincolnshire Family History One Day Conference at City School, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln. It has been over 20 years since we attended a Lincolnshire conference, and we look forward to renewing old acquaintances.

Lungley-Pask Families

This information relates to the main Suffolk tree - descendants of John & Mirabel Pask née Sparrow, born c1680 who lived in Wickhambrook, Suffolk.

In January Sheila Bourne contacted us. She had seen in the December edition of Suffolk Roots, the article from Jo Pask on the Pask Family Gathering, July 2008. She wrote that her cousins Lewis H. Lungley and his sister Gladys G. Lungley had married a Pask brother and sister:

Lewis Herbert Lungley married Ruth Pask on 13 July 1940 at Falkenham, Suffolk
Gladys Gertrude Lungley married Herbert Arthur Pask on 2 August 1941 in Ardleigh, Essex

Ruth and Herbert were the son and daughter of the son of Arthur & Janet Pask née Ramsey.

Today we received a package from Sheila containing 36 certificates relating to these two families. We are delighted, and indebted to Sheila for sharing this information.

Susan Pask born 1820 Llanmartin, Monmouthshire

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Earlier this month Paula Payne, our ardent Monmouthshire researcher wrote to us. Recently she and her brother Peter saw the original Nebo Independant Chapel, Wolvesnewton records and determined that the Pask baptisms were wrongly transcribed.

In particular it was originally believed that Susan was the daughter of Isaac & Mary Pask née Morgan. Paula confirmed that it should read:

Susan the daughter of Isaac Pask and Elizabeth Pask of the Parish of Llanmartin was born in 28th February 1820 and was baptized 29th March 1820 by David Thomas of Nebo Independent Chapel Wolvesnewton.

This has been amended in our database, and be included in the next website update.

John & Mary Hannah Beard née Pask

This information relates to a descendant of the Monmouthshire progenitor Isaac Paske, (c1705 - ) who lived in Llanvihangel-ystern-Llewern, Monmouthshire.

Last month we received a letter from Christine A. Paisley, who lives in Albany, West Australia. She writes that her husband's grandmother was Mary Hannah Pask, the daughter of John & Elizabeth Pask née Crockett. Mary was born on 15 February 1885 at Barbadoes Green, Tintern, Monmouthshire.

Christine has provided details that has enabled us to identify John & Mary's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 2 x great-grandchildren. This information will be included in the next website update in Chart 04.

John Joseph Stephen & Julia Wiber née Pask

This information relates to the descendants of the Essex Main Progenitor - John Pask, (1771-1847) who originated from Thundersley, Essex.

Today we received an e-mail from Mandy Bourdon. She writes:

I live in Australia ... my ggg grandmother was a Elizabeth Louisa Wiber daughter of John Joseph Stephen Wiber and Julia Pask but on your website it only states an Emma Wiber.

The reason for only having Emma was because the information came from the passenger list of the "Parsee". If there were other children they must have been born in Australia.

Mandy is going to provide more information. In the meantime, we will include Elizabeth in the next website update.

Toffee Pask (19 July 1994 - 13 March 2009)

Our beloved burmese cat Toffee sadly died yesterday. His real name was Rascal Robbie, and he lived up to his name. We had to include numerous bells on his collar to warn all the local birds, mice, squirrels, and even rats. Nothing was too big for him.

He was always with me whilst I worked on family history. Frequently I had to move him off the mouse mat as he got closer and closer. We will sorely miss him.

New Chart 48 - George & Mary Pask née Fitzjohn

This information relates to Chart 48: George Pask who was born in 1818, and baptised in Thorney Cambridgeshire. He married Mary Fitzjohn in 1840, and they lived in Northamptonshire.

A new chart will be available in the next website update - chart 48. This will group together over 40 people who descend from George & Mary Pask née Fitzjohn who lived in Northamptonshire in the middle of the 19th century.

George was the illegitimate son of Sarah Pask. He was born on 12 July 1817, and baptised on 7 June 1818 in Thorney, Cambridgeshire. It is currently not known where Sarah came from.
